BlizzCon 2011: Mists of Pandaria Preview Panel liveblog

The scenario system sounds like a massive ripoff of Rift. Good job, Blizzard. WoW is officially dead.

Second Twitter developer chat on January 15th

I'm not good at framing questions so maybe someone else can figure it out and ask them something along the lines of what the fuck is up with elemental shaman? Are they going to just make a new talent tree or something? Because it seems like Blizzard either doesn't want anyone to play elemental, can't figure out what to do with elemental, or doesn't care.

Breakfast Topic: Culture permeates

I find it funny that anyone enjoys these stupid memes and pop-culture references. In fact, all of these things completely destroy the game for me.

I much prefer MMOs like LOTRO that stick to their lore. It's sort of why I play an RPG.

'everyway' is spelled 'every way.'

Sorry, that's one of my biggest pet-peeves, like, ever.

No Battletech? Think about how awesome that would be. Your factions could be either Inner Sphere or Clan, with an in-game option once you've leveled to go merc, and you could break that down in character creation even further by picking which House or Clan you belong to.

Then your classes - you could be a tech, an elemental, a mechwarrior (pilot), an aerofighter pilot, or any of that sort of thing. Add the vehicles, add the skill-based combat where piloting a mech is just like it is in Mechwarrior 3 or 4 as far as customization and actual battle goes.

Then, to support that, think of the economy - something like EVE, player-based. Some 'Mechs could be for industrious types, like miners or prospectors. You could go planet-hopping looking for ore and have to deal with mercs, clans, or rebels in the process.

Then you have the people that research new tech, and then the people that actually build new 'mech parts - engines, motors, the flexor tech that goes into the legs of the 'mechs, weapons, radio/comm equipment, transformation abilities (aerofighter-> 'mech, etc)

Man... that'd be too damn cool.

A misty night, a perfect night
Beneath the cold of the frozen star
You feel the fright, you know I'm near
You never should have come this far
I am alive, you can't kill me
I will survive eternity

Go through the fire walk past the dead
Lost in my eternal maze
Your heart pounds through the mist filled air
Your concentration breaks for me to strike
You've cowered down, you've broken the chain
Now I can freeze your burning eyes

You see me lift the axe, (as) it plunges through your shield
You now begin to panic as you see your chances grow slim
Your running through the endless maze
(You) Turn and I'll be there
A force too strong for you to fight
Your end I'll see tonight ("I'll see your end tonight")

You think you can destroy (me)? You'd better think again
I am eternal terror my quest will never end
I'll trap you in the pentagram
And seal your battered tomb
Your life is just another game
For Satan's night of doom

Analyzing WoW's growth by the numbers

I think I'm throwing in the towel with Warcraft. I was chugging along on an alt the other day, and I realized that I had wasted over 1200 hours of my life on this game. Doing the same things. Over, and over. I go to work and do the same things over and over for 10 hours a day... why am I doing it at home, on my own free time!?

The only objectives in WoW seem to be to look the coolest, do the most crap over and over, and be the biggest dick about it. I'll be damned if I spend another 4 hours in Naxx, mindlessly killing mobs to get gear that only drops from a few bosses, only to down said bosses and get nothing. Great. I just wasted 4 hours standing around listening to some self-centric asshole talk on Vent about an impending encounter as if we were going up against terrorists in some Iraqi town, and be a dick about it because he's a whiny loser in RL and this is his only chance to boss people around. I'm tired of being called a n00b or a loser because I don't spend every waking hour farming gold to get an epic flyer. I like flying at 60% speed at level 80, thanks.

I'm going back to games that reward skill, as opposed to games like WoW that reward time investment.

The Digital Continuum: Sci-fi geeks need to experience Jumpgate Evolution

GAAAAAH I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME!

It seemed to me that the sci-fi space shooter was all but dead after Freespace 1 and 2's heyday.

Gorgeous graphics, gameplay that looks amazing, a half-decent story, and - the best part - I get to zip around and blow other people up without having to worry about arcane mathematics involving turret tracking speeds and trajectories. Yosh!

Now if someone will make a Battletech MMO focused on action, but with an RPG element, sort of like JGE, I'll be in heaven =3

Anti-Aliased: Top 5 things MMOs should learn in the new year pt. 2

By 'we,' you mean yourself in this context. I'm pretty sure you don't speak for everyone. I enjoy playing solo in WoW, EVE, Warhammer, EQ2, and basically any MMO I have ever played. The term 'multiplayer' denotes 'multiple players,' as opposed to 'single-player,' i.e. a game multiple players can play at once, whether with each other or not. "Massively multiplayer,' then, denotes a game that has a massive amount of multiple players. Or, at least, that's how it works in my head.

I enjoy playing these types of games solo for many reasons - people are stupid, greedy, and prideful. Most people won't shut up long enough in an instance for someone who knows what is going on to explain the impending encounter to them. Also, if you group up with random people to knock out a quest or a dungeon, 9 times out of 10 it'll wipe, and after that wipe, everyone will leave without prior warning. But let's assume that this group downs the last boss, and the last boss drops some sweet loot. Cool. Now we get to roll for it, and whoever wins gets spat at and hated on for winning an item fair and square. Someone decides to make themselves feel better by convincing themselves and everyone else that it was somehow ninjaed. Great! Not to mention the fact that you've got a high likelihood of being stuck with a bunch of 17-year-old 'gangstas' with a crappy attitude, where most of this behavior comes from - products of the 'I'm going to grow up to be a rich, pimpin' hip-hop rapper star' generation that doesn't give a damn about learning anything.

No, I'd rather play solo. I'd rather rely on a person that I know very well, a person whose abilities I know well, and a person whose mind I know well - myself. You can't rely on anyone else for anything, because you'll just be disappointed.

Yeah, I'm bitter.
