Vollee Second Life mobile beta live

I installed it and tried it out yesterday. So far, it looks great. There are some bugs, at least on the Pantech version, but that's to be expected. The graphics are better than I would have expected. IMs work perfectly, though, and I think being able to chat with your SL contacts is probably the most useful feature anyway. Another reason I'm trying it out is that I can't run SL while I'm at work. I don't plan using this a lot, but it's nice to know I have a way to connect when I'm at work.

Now I know how the world will end. Someone's going to figure out how to make spinning cubes that self-replicate until the universe crashes.

"They aren't philanthropies, after all (that's why I have often suggested making LL a non-profit or an Associated Press precisely because it might be more appropriate to make it like Firefox and Mozilla, who knows)."

Um, maybe I misunderstood, but I could have sworn you hated the very idea of open source software.

I think that was the first SL machinima I ever saw. It was funny then, and still funny now.

Is Second Life one of the few, true MMORPGs?

I think most of us in Second Life are role playing to a certain degree, even if we never set virtual foot in an actual role-playing sim. Here, we get to be who we want to be. For some, that may be very close to who they are in the real world. For others, not so much. For me, I get to be obsessed with purple in a way that would get me funny looks in the real world. Is that role-playing? I don't know, and I'm not sure I really care either.

Just Askin' - Three things that RL business should do

Aug 10th 2007 2:08AM (Second Life Insider)
1. Give people something to DO, not just something to look at. I'll go someplace pretty once, or maybe twice, but if there isn't anything to do there, I won't keep coming back. Sponsoring live music would be great, I think.
2. Do some research first. Find out why those of us who love Second Life are here, and what we like to do. Look at the popular resident created sims and learn from them.
3. Come into it with a sense of play. Have fun with it. Make it something you, Corporate Marketing Exec, would want to come spend your own personal time in. I think this is a really important thing they're all missing. I mean, that's what we do, right? We build places we like, and that are fun for us. And likeminded people find us and join in.
