Sadly this game sounds more and more like a mess every day... I don't care about PvP anyway, but... they have finally jumped the shark and I am afraid that the Blizzard of old is gone.
@Sharuk I agree, but I think for another game to have, and to give players the "WoW Experience" - i.e. well staffed, well produced content updates - often - and deliver on new features consistently, a game needs to exceed profitability by far, and probably land into the 2-3 million sub range.
Then everyone feels better about getting behind it, because they know the developer will make a quality investment, and therefore more likely to invest their personal time in something they see as valuable over the long term.
@Repopulation Yeah, they are making the same mistake by including/forcing the statue that most probably could care less about. That drives up the price.
But, Blizzard has culturally not had to operate under strict and traditional business "rules and practices" for some time... adjusting to that could indeed harm their culture, and output.
I have been wondering if a slip of nearly 2m subscribers from WoW would force the bean counters to take a look at things, and sure enough. When there's more than enough cash to go around inefficiencies are overlooked...
Selfishly, I just hope this can be done without affecting quantity or volume. I would feel better if he came out and said "we've also reassigned many folks to our highest priority project - Titan". Nary a mention of it makes me wonder...
Should be interesting to see the community response over the next few days... the ones drawing conclusions, etc.

Definitely difficult to define, but just as their play style indicates, maybe they shouldn't be "defined" at all.
At any rate, for me a sandbox is simply a world that allows free-style character progression in one or many areas such as Combat, Economics or Diplomacy.
I do think though that there should be "theme park" elements to all of those, including some world story that propels it along.
My main problem with recent theme park MMOs is that developers are hyper-focused on the "game" part of things and have neglected the "world". I don't always have to be the hero, sometimes I just want to be a cog in the machine... and I think that's what worlds are great for.
