I'm a guy, and I like the vampire genre. Buffy/Angel were incredible, and True Blood is very promising. I even enjoy romance in certain contexts. That said, I read Twilight on the urging of my superfan niece and found that it was hands down the worst book I've ever read. Literally, 1/4 of the sentences were some hyperbolic statement about how hot this Edward vampire was, or how his breath smelled great (I'm not kidding), or how she couldn't breathe because he looked like Adonis. The entire premise of the book was that if a guy is hot enough, you should do anything and take any risk to get physical with him. There was almost no actual plot. I didn't think it was possible, but this book actually decreased my respect for the female gender, which is pretty sad. This is one case where internet backlash is entirely well-founded. Twilight is true adolescent female porn.
