My first priority for the expansion was to figure out why, after the launch of the expansion I was seeing lag spikes of 5kms+ every minute or so. After asking in the forums and contacting support I was ready to give up since all I was met with was a collective "dunno" from the forums and a nice form letter non-response from their customer support.
However, undeterred, I pressed on struggling against all odds to figure out why AoC was doing this all of a sudden. After a week of being unable to play the game I had paid $15 to re-subscribe to and $30 for the expansion, I discovered that having my dual 8800gt video cards in SLI mode was causing the lag spikes somehow. It was odd, given that I had played half a week prior to the launch of Godslayer and it was fine.
Now I am able to play again! So, yeah Funcom. THATS what I spent the first week of Godslayer doing.
Keeping it to characters below level 20 is likely intended to clean up a lot of unused character data from people who tried the trial and never came back.
Square-Enix's decision to delete ANY character after 3 months of inactivity kept me subscribed while not playing for a long time. I will NEVER do that again. The problem with this tactic is that once I FINALLY convinced myself to let go, having all my stuff gone has basically insured that I will never go back. The nostalgia that might made me resub for a little while lies largely in my characters and their stuff.
