Age of Conan Free Running
- City wall
From on top of these rooves, the city wall looks much smaller and less intimidating than it does from the outside.
- Route to tortage rooftops
This is the first route I found to the rooftops of Tortage but it is by no means the only route. This combination of short hops and long running jumps didn't take long to find.
- Route to tortage rooftops #2
After playing a game for some time and familiarising yourself with the controls, visualising potential jump routes such as this one in your head becomes quite easy.
- Inner city
The inner city of Tortage houses the noble district. This unique angle of view shows just how tall and menacing the large black towers really are.
Looking down from above, the entrance area into Tortage looks very different. The city wall seen from this height no longer seems as impenetrable. From these rooftops, you can actually get on top of the city wall.
- City wall
The stone wall surrounding Tortage, as seen from on top.
- The Rum 'n' Rumble
Once a massive sailing ship, the Rum 'n' Rumble is now a tavern moored in Tortage's docks. Jumping on top of the makeshift roof from this small wooden strut is tricky but not impossible.
- Roof of the Rum 'n' Rumble
After twenty minutes of repeatedly falling to my near death, I finally managed to reach the roof of the Rum 'n' Rumble. At some points, my feet appear to sink beneath the ground a bit. It's almost as if they didn't intend for people to walk on the roof.
- Route to Khemi's rooftops
Khemi is a much more difficult city to reach the rooftops of. This was the only route I could manage to get working in hours of trying. This first jump is tricky, a running jump into where one wall intersects with another.
- Route to Khemi's rooftops #2
Once the first tricky jump is out of the way, only a few well-placed leaps stand between you and your goal. These cloth overhangs may not look like much but they will support your character perfectly well. The ladder in the background is unfortunately not climbable.
The difficult jumps to get to this position may take some practice but the reward is well-worth it. Just over the tops of these buildings is a beautiful scene of the river Styx. Khemi's religious citadels loom over the river in the distance.
- Above Khemi
From this vantage point, parts of Khemi not ordinarily visible are clear to see. The chaotic architecture of Kehmi can be seen, with buildings overlapping each other and makeshift extensions added on.
Kehmi's buildings often have ladders leading from one rooftop to another. Unfortunately, these ladders cannot be climbed and are essentially useless.
- Hidden NPC
This NPC girl is not reachable by normal means. By climbing onto a nearby rooftop and jumping across, I managed to walk up beside her. Disappointingly, she had nothing to say. Being up there on her own 24/7 seems to have made her mute.
- Stairway to nowhere
This was my favourite odd find in Khemi. This stairway looked like it was meant to be connected to another further down but no connecting platform was present. The staircase ends abruptly in mid air. Jumping off this bridge, you find yourself underneath several buildings. If you manage to find this location, be careful as it's possible to get stuck down there. Using a teleport ability or petitioning a GM should get you out. Explaining to a GM how exactly you got into that position could be tricky.
- Tortage's rooves
The rooftops in Tortage are just begging to be explored. With large wooden beams jutting out of every roof, jumping between them is effortless.
- Tortage architecture
This screenshot shows the various types of structure that composes Tortage's building architecture. Beams running between buildings, balconies and ledges are all very common.
- Balconies etc
The variety of structure in Tortage is very high, almost every house is unique in one way or another.
If all you see here are buildings, you're not looking hard enough. This area is like a playground, with a tricky balance beam and climbing frames.
Visualing potential jumps is a big part of urban exploration. From up here, you could reach the roof to the right and vault over the city wall.
The large building with the balcony can be reached and an impressive view of the docks can be seen from its roof. This just shows you the lengths some of us go to for a good screenshot.
After making the jump across to the large building near the docks, I turned to find this sight behind me. Some of the best scenes can just sneak up on you like that, make sure to take a look around now and then or you could miss some awesome sights.
- Steep incline
This rooftop represented a massive challenge. The angle of incline is so steep that walking up it isn't possible. With a series of jumps and a lot of time trying, I think I finally made it on top of this roof.
- Secret meeting place
High among the buildings, I found these two houses joined by a common balcony. This would make an excellent secret meeting place and gives a nice view of the Rum 'n' Rumble moored in Tortage harbor.
- Tortage buildings
A nice view of the buildings in Tortage.
The back alleys of Tortage's city streets are visible below. A dead body hangs from one of the wooden beams below.
What use is getting onto the rooftops if you can't use it to impress people? This demonologist desparately tries to attract attention with a fire-show.
- A long way down
As you reach greater heights, the ground level seems to get dauntingly far. A fall from this height probably wouldn't kill you but even if it did, it's all good fun.
- Sights of Tortage #1
From above the height of Tortage's inner city walls, the city morphs into an almost organic entity. Buildings appear to be weaved around the inside of the valley, clasping onto any free space they can use.
- Sights of Tortage #2
Upon finally reaching the large building by the docks, this sight awaited me.
- Sights of Tortage #3
The city seems to occupy every available space, with some buildings on stilts and others built incredibly tall. You won't see anything quite like this from the ground.
- Tortage Harbor
Tortage harbor, as seen from a mountain peak in the distance. This screenshot was submitted by a travelling companion who followed in my exploration footsteps.
- From Above
Although it looks very different from the dizzying heights of the mountaintops, this area should be familiar. This is a view of the beaches where you first start the game. This screenshot was submitted by another travelling companion from the Thulsa Goons guild.
