<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/grinding-gear"> Grinding Gear Games</a> is finally gearing up (pun intended) for the launch of <em><a href="http://www.pathofexile.com/">Path of Exile</a></em>, an MMO dungeon-crawler that hopes to satisfy fanatics and casual gamers alike. The new title has been in closed beta for just the last few months of its six-year development cycle, and on January 23rd, it will hit open beta -- surely a relief for players eyeing the closed beta wistfully. Unfortunately for those who <em>have</em> been grinding away (yep, pun intended again) at hordes of monsters during the beta, there will be a character wipe, one that sets all characters, levels, items, experience, passive skills, active skills, and everything else back to zero.<br />
<br />
I recently attended a live demo and got to chat about the game with reps from Grinding Gear in Los Angeles. Read on for my take!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/19/gearing-up-for-path-of-exiles-launch-with-a-demo-and-intervie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Gearing' up for Path of Exile's launch with a demo and interview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/19/gearing-up-for-path-of-exiles-launch-with-a-demo-and-intervie/">'Gearing' up for Path of Exile's launch with a demo and interview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 19 Jan 2013 12:00:00 EST. Harken back, o reader, to ye olden days of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2012">E3 2012</a>, if thou canst recall, as a great and powerful force of dragons has arrived among us. OK, so E3 wasn't <em>that</em> long ago (although it often feels like it), but something dragon-like has certainly surfaced: During the expo, I saw an impressive demo of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Dragon-Eternity">Dragon Eternity</a></em>, a cross-platform fantasy MMO from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Game-Insight/">Game Insight</a>, and as of this morning, the embargo on all the details of that demo has finally lifted. Hit the break and I'll tell you all about it!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/e3-2012-dragon-eternitys-cross-platform-warfare-and-weddings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2012: Dragon Eternity's cross-platform warfare and weddings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/e3-2012-dragon-eternitys-cross-platform-warfare-and-weddings/">E3 2012: Dragon Eternity's cross-platform warfare and weddings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2012 10:30:00 EST. It was difficult to miss one of the most impressive booths on the show floor at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2012/">E3</a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wargaming.net">Wargaming.net</a> established its dominance on the floor by setting up computers and allowing all E3-goers to play its latest games against the Wargaming development team. Its flagship title at E3 was <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-tanks">World of Tanks</a></em>, but I sneaked away to the team's press room to watch a demo of something similar.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warplanes"><em>World of Warplanes</em></a> is one title out of three that Wargaming.net is proud to show. For the unfamiliar readers, Wargaming.net launched <em>World of Tanks</em> last year, and its booth at E3 2011 wasn't quite as large as this year's.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/09/e3-2012-hands-on-with-world-of-warplanes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2012: Hands-on with World of Warplanes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/09/e3-2012-hands-on-with-world-of-warplanes/">E3 2012: Hands-on with World of Warplanes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 09 Jun 2012 12:00:00 EST. If there's one thing I love about game companies, it's their capacity to innovate. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/TrionWorlds/">Trion Worlds</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Petroglyph/">Petroglyph</a> are teaming together to do just that with their new MMORTS <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/End-of-Nations/">End of Nations</a></em>. I had the chance to demo <em>End of Nations</em> at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2012">E3</a> and talk a bit to the folks at Petroglyph, which is gearing up to launch a strong seller that is taking risks with experimentation for the RTS genre.<br />
<br />
A lot of questions come to mind when one ponders how an MMORTS will function. How many players are there? Will lag be a significant problem? Unit control? These MMORTS games are so new that experimenting in how the game mechanics work is key. The demo was entirely functional and entertaining to play. Let's dive into some details.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/08/e3-2012-end-of-nations-shows-its-mmo-ish-roots/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2012: End of Nations shows its MMO-ish roots</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/08/e3-2012-end-of-nations-shows-its-mmo-ish-roots/">E3 2012: End of Nations shows its MMO-ish roots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 10:00:00 EST. Saddle up, pard'ners: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/riders-of-rohan/"><em>Riders of Rohan</em></a> is coming! <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/lord-of-the-rings-online"><em>Lord of the Rings Online's</em></a> fourth expansion in its full equine glory at this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2012">E3</a>. At <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/turbine">Turbine's</a> booth, we got a first look at the expansion's highly touted mounted combat and were able to ask the crew some of our burning questions about the differences between the editions.<br />
<br />
It's apparent that <em>Riders of Rohan</em> has a ton to give <em>LotRO </em>subscribers. Turbine's chosen to release the east side of Rohan first, leaving out the west side for future development. The expansion features customizable mounts, impressive graphical upgrades, a slew of customization options, new NPCs, new content, and even a new orchestral soundtrack.<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Bioware">BioWare's</a> booth at this year's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2012/">E3</a> provided to MMO gamers one of the most interesting reveals yet. The crew ushered us into a small room, complete with a gigantic LED screen and fast computers (i7 chips, no doubt) that demonstrated the latest <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> patch. The brief video presentation laid out for all of us what's to be coming soon for <em>SWTOR</em> hardcore players as well as for those who are interested about the game but haven't yet picked it up.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/06/e3-2012-swtors-allies-patch-aims-to-give-back-to-the-players/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2012: SWTOR's Allies patch aims to give back to the players</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/06/e3-2012-swtors-allies-patch-aims-to-give-back-to-the-players/">E3 2012: SWTOR's Allies patch aims to give back to the players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2012 15:30:00 EST. If you're a fan of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/spacetime">Spacetime Studios'</a> mobile MMO <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Pocket-Legends/">Pocket Legends</a></em> or any of its brethren, you're in for a treat. The studio's next installment in the series, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arcane-legends">Arcane Legends</a>,</em> promises to deliver more of what all gamers crave: a standard hack-'n'-slash dungeon crawler feel, with more weapons, more environments, more lore, and more of just plain ol' fun. For free.<br />
<br />
Players who haven't experienced any of the <em>Legends </em>series will find it familiar yet entertaining. Spacetime is entirely dedicated to gaming software on all platforms. <em>Pocket Legends </em>was its first foray into the market, and thus was born <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Star-Legends/">Star Legends</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Dark-Legends/">Dark Legends</a>,</em> each with its own style and flair. <em>Arcane Legends</em> delivers more of what the previous titles offer.<br />
<br />
I was able to sit down with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Fernando-Blanco/">Fernando Blanco</a>, Director of Marketing, at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2012/">E3</a> to see a demo for the game, which the studio showcased on two tablets -- including a Kindle Fire. It was quite impressive.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/06/e3-2012-spacetime-studios-demos-another-smash-legends-hit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2012: Spacetime Studios demos another smash Legends hit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/06/e3-2012-spacetime-studios-demos-another-smash-legends-hit/">E3 2012: Spacetime Studios demos another smash Legends hit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2012 10:00:00 EST.
