Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the Massively team and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!

Another weekend of gaming is upon us -- and this week in addition to the standard "what are you playing" question, we've asked the Massively team what the meaning is of life, the universe, and everything. Hey, it's a simple enough question -- read on for the answer(s).
Continue reading WRUP: Hoopy frood edition

WRUP: Hoopy frood edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 10:00:00 EST. As one week must end, so another will begin. But between the weeks we have two luxurious days of weekend in which we can enjoy all of our favorite things -- and as you might imagine, video games rank fairly highly amongst the Massively staff's list of favorite things. At any rate, it's far too hot to venture out of doors, so we may as well enjoy our favorite games in the meantime. So read on to find out what we're playing this weekend -- and, of course, to let us know what you're playing in the comments.
Continue reading WRUP: Eternal summer edition

WRUP: Eternal summer edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 17 Jul 2010 10:00:00 EST. Another weekend means it's time for another edition of WRUP! For those of you playing at home, we'll refresh you on the rules of our little game: every weekend, we ask our contributors what they're playing this weekend (i.e. what are you playing, i.e. WRUP). Their responses go into a post very much like this one and readers are encouraged to join in and geek out about their favored game of the hour. Want to know what sort of trouble the Massively crew is getting into this weekend? The answers are here -- just read on to find out!
Continue reading WRUP: Another week, another weekend

WRUP: Another week, another weekend originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 10 Jul 2010 09:00:00 EST.

Dragon Nest couldn't be more different from Vindictus, Nexon's other new title. Where Vindictus is all about "elegant brutality," Nexon describes Dragon Nest as "kinetic and beautiful." And though both games are lovely in their own way, Dragon Nest's style is more typical of what you'd expect from Nexon: The art is stylized, with a bit of an anime feel to it. Gameplay felt a surprising amount like Nexon's 2-D classic arcade-style MMO, Dungeon Fighter Online, though DN is fully 3-D and much more like what you'd expect of an MMO. But like DFO, DN's combat is fast-paced, full of flashy animations, and just a lot of fun. With every game we see from Nexon, it's clear that they're taking everything they've learned from previous development and adding it to their latest project.

Though we haven't seen everything the game has to offer, Dragon Nest may be their most polished game yet.
With as many demo stations as Nexon had available to show off their latest games -- Vindictus and Dragon Nest -- we could hardly pass by without stopping to play for a few minutes. And now we're going to try to pass the experience on to you, with words and pictures that don't quite do the game justice. But until it it goes live later this year (they're hoping to launch in the fall), this will have to suffice. So let's talk Vindictus.

Vindictus is a free-to-play game of the likes we've never seen before. It's running on Valve's Source Engine and looks simply incredible. It represents a major departure from Nexon's usual stylized graphics -- Vindictus is as realistic as they come, with crisp graphics and clean animation. It's also a departure content-wise: Vindictus is joyfully violent, allowing you to hack away at monsters, smash almost anything element in the environment, and destroy your opponents with finishing moves. And, of course, to look damn good while doing it. It's "all about elegant brutality," Nexon tells us, and we have to agree.
ChangYou's Zentia is -- you guessed it -- another free-to-play title coming from Asia. So what makes it stand out from the rest? We talked to the game's senior producer, Susan Revelt at E3 and she tells us it's the game's story that makes it shine. And we admit, Zentia does start with a rather unique premise: You enter the game as one of 22 (former) immortals who have been banished from the immortal realms and tasked with ridding the world of demons before they can return. It's ChangYou's take on telling a fairy tale... with a humorous twist. (Revelt tells us they're aiming for a Princess Bride or Labyrinth feel with the story and the humor.) Whether this has given them what they need to succeed in the crowded free to play market is still up in the air. Though we've seen footage of the game, we haven't had a chance to test drive it ourselves and the closed beta won't begin until early July, with a planned release towards the end of August.

Let's start by talking about the basics of the game...
On Tuesday, we caught up with Chris Early, Ubisoft's Vice President of Digital Publishing, to chat about Heroes of Might and Magic's future with a new browser-based MMO. I must admit, I'm personally a bit skeptical about whether browser-based games can supplant full-fledged applications, but after talking with Chris, I'm sold on the concept -- at least insofar as Might and Magic Heroes Kingdom is concerned.

First up, the basics. Just what is MMHK?

Ubisoft calls MMHK a "strategic casual MMO." It's turn-based with more of real-time strategy vibe than we've seen in other MMOs and it's designed with people who may only have a few minutes a day to play in mind. Think of something along the lines of multiplayer Civilization with thousands of other people and you'd be near the mark. Now, whether "casual" turns into hours of "just one more turn" is another matter entirely.

Gameplay and lore from the Might and Magic franchise we all know and love -- the goal with MMHK is just to throw more players into the mix.

Want PvP? You can do that. Want PvE? You can do that. Want to advance as a merchant-type character purely for the pursuit of wealth without killing your fellow players? You can do that, too.

Browser-based, which means you can play it on your PC, your Mac, or even your shiny new iPad -- wherever you've got an internet connection. This means there's no software to download or install.

Free to play with an optional subscription fee. (Though Ubisoft hasn't announced pricing for the game's North American release, it's currently live in France, where a monthly subscription runs five euros.)

If that sounds like something that might be up your alley, read on for more details.
If someone collected the data from many weeks of WRUP and charted what everyone played week in and week out there's certain to be some sort of hidden message, isn't there? Perhaps this random assortment of games, old and new, every week is only seemingly random, disguising an intricate pattern that will tell us the future... Hmm! But, pattern or not, Team Massively's gaming habits are all over the map this weekend -- just read on to see for yourself! This week we've also asked everyone a bonus question which comes again from commenter Blah?, who asked: If you could develop your own MMO, what would the setting be?
For those of you in the audience who wonder how this whole WRUPing thing works, we'll tell you: getting the introduction right is the hardest part. Here's the story behind today's introduction:

Elizabeth: WRUP is done save an intro... hmm... this is always the hardest part.
Krystalle: /sings in Tom Petty style "the innnntro, is the hardest part"
Eliot: But the intro is the hardest part -- no one reads the piece if you don't know how to start. You try to crack a joke, you try to keep it smart, the intro is the hardest part.

And now that the post has been properly (or improperly) introduced, let's take a trip with Tom Petty into the wonderful world of what we're playing this weekend.
Continue reading WRUP: Let them eat cake edition

WRUP: Let them eat cake edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 08 May 2010 10:00:00 EST. Happy Saturday everyone! Another very fine weekend is upon us and here at Massively HQ we're celebrating with some game time. This week, in addition to asking the staff what they're playing this weekend, we've also asked what their favorite in-game armor set is. Whether we're too sexy for our helms (/groan) or not is an exercise we leave to you, dear readers. But for what we're playing this weekend -- and, better yet, what you're playing this weekend -- read on!
Another work-week is coming to a close which means it's time to ask our staff (and our readers!) what they're up to this weekend. As usual, Massively's writing staff is all over the map on gaming for the weekend -- striving to steer clear of pattern and predictability by playing a little bit of everything. This week, in addition to talking about what everyone's playing, we also asked what everyone's favorite in-game mount was. And our answers? Well, as you'll see in our gallery, they seem to trend to the post-apocalyptic.
Friends and family may nag us over our MMO habit, but our pets will always love us (so long as we remember to feed them). So this week in addition to talking up what we're playing this weekend, we're also sharing our favorite pets. We'll kick-start this adventure with Tateru, who gives us "two animals for the price of one, occupying the backrest of the comfiest chair in the house."

And whether you're interested in the Massively crew's activities or not -- come along for the ride and let us know what you're playing this weekend. (Pictures of adorable animals are entirely optional -- but certainly encouraged.)
Continue reading WRUP: Distracted by kittens edition

WRUP: Distracted by kittens edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 17 Apr 2010 09:00:00 EST. Happy weekend, everyone, from team Massively to you. Though it didn't happen on the weekend -- and is therefore beyond the providence of WRUP -- if you caught this week's Nights of Eberron group, you might have played with us instead of just reading up on what we're playing. But there's another chance to meet up with the Massively crew in DDO this coming Wednesday -- and since it's free to play, you've nothing to lose but time (and possibly sanity). But while we all wait for Wednesday, let's dive in to WRUP and find out what the team is playing this weekend.

Don't care what we're playing? That's okay too -- but why not come on in and leave a comment to let us know what you're up to this weekend?
Continue reading WRUP: Oh, those Eberron nights...

WRUP: Oh, those Eberron nights... originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 10 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. Alas, for now that April Fools' is over, we're back to the daily grind of playing more MMOs than is necessarily good for us. (Not that we've consulted a doctor about this -- what if we were told to stop?!) At any rate, the weekend for most is time to kick back, relax, and enjoy some quality gaming time. So what's the Massively crew up to this weekend? A little bit of everything!

Beau Hindman (@spouseaggro): I will be playing all sorts of stuff, including Alganon, Mabinogi and getting back into EQ (I started a brand new character for the first time in years.) And, of course, I will be trying to hit 5k coins in my Free Realms coin spin!

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've gotten back into Runes of Magic lately and am definitely having more fun this time around. So far I've been enjoying the minigames and events a lot.

More games -- as well as some of the team's favorite April Fools' jokes -- after the break.
Continue reading WRUP: Back to the daily grind edition

WRUP: Back to the daily grind edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 03 Apr 2010 09:00:00 EST. Is anybody home? Hello? Hello? The quiet hallways of Massively HQ seem awfully deserted, but certainly some of the Massively staff are in this weekend -- even though quite a few have bravely ventured off to the wilds of Boston for PAX East. The rest of us are tragically stuck at home to play video games and hungrily await the next batch of news from our PAX crew. If you, too, are stuck at home, wishing you were at PAX, perhaps you'll join us for a while to <strike>mourn our misfortune</strike> talk about the games you're playing this weekend, too.
Another weekend, another WRUP! There are no trends in this week's WRUP (for the uninitiated, WRUP stands for what are you playing and is our chance to geek out over our weekend game plans). As usual, the Massively team is all over the map with their favorite games -- and with so many great MMOs (and non-MMOs, of course, for when we need a change of pace), who can blame them? So without further ado, let's see what the Massively team is playing this weekend. And if you don't care what we're doing? Well, head into the comments to talk about what you're doing.
Continue reading WRUP: We play everything edition

WRUP: We play everything edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 20 Mar 2010 09:00:00 EST. Ah, the weekend. A peaceful time to rest, relax and... well, play video games, of course. So around this time every week, we catch up with the Massively team to find out what their game of choice is when we release them from the office for the weekend. This week, in addition to asking what they are playing, we asked what they wish they could be playing -- what existing franchise they'd like to see get the MMO treatment (at least in dreams). So what are you waiting for? Read on to find out what the Massively team is up to this weekend -- and to join the conversation.
Happy Saturday, everyone! We're celebrating the arrival of another weekend like the beautiful and unique snowflakes (not at all like Borg) we are. In addition to the not at all unique question of what the Massively team is playing this weekend, we've also asked what features in their favorite games they'd like to see implemented elsewhere. Curious to see what the team had to say (hint: Borg weren't on anyone's list) or add your own opinions into the mix? Do you ever find yourself curious as to what the Massively team does in its copious free time? This week's WRUP is your chance to find out -- and, of course, add to the conversation by talking about what you're up to in-game this weekend. Beyond our standard query of what are you playing, we also asked everyone what their favorite television show was (because you can't play MMOs all the time, can you?). Is your curiosity piqued yet? If so, click on to see what the Massively team is doing this weekend -- and to let us know what you're getting into, game-wise or television-wise.
Continue reading WRUP: Our favorite things edition

WRUP: Our favorite things edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 20 Feb 2010 09:00:00 EST. Another week, another weekend. What game's siren song is luring the Massively staff to their computers this holiday weekend? We wanted to know, too -- so we did the straightforward thing and asked. A few people even answered us.

Dan O'Halloran: Leveling my Fury in EverQuest 2 during their bonus experience weekend in anticipation of their Sentinel's Fate expansion. Exploring the Volume 3 Book 1 patch on the LotRO test servers. Delving deeper into Mirkwood on the LotRO live servers. Oh yes, and spending the three day weekend in Joshua Tree with the family. Thank the gods for in-hotel wifi.

Eliot Lefebvre: At the moment, I'm kind of between major things in games. Final Fantasy XI and City of Heroes both have big changes around the corner but not here quite yet, and I've just sort of idly been poking at some of my long-time single-player favorites without a great deal of vigor. I'll most likely poke a bit at both of the above games, perhaps look around and see if I can find any free trials to while away the weekends. (And if readers want to suggest something in the comments, well, I'm not saying no.)

Seraphina Brennan (@sera_brennan): This weekend is all about playing EQII for me. I need to take advantage of the bonus experience and get my character leveled up! Need to start getting closer to Sentinel's Fate, at least! Beyond that, I'm probably going to be preparing for this Monday's big EQII contest that we're doing. I'll be making some devious puzzles for everyone. Hopefully they will be hard, but rewarding!

Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): Planning on taking advantage of the bonus XP in EverQuest II and getting back into Age of Conan this weekend. If you see a Ratonga or Stygian stumbling around doing weird stuff like smacking into walls, that's probably (a very NyQuil-ed up) me.

Tateru Nino (@taterunino): Another weekend of meetings and projects in Second Life, though I'm hoping for some Champions Online and Company of Heroes time as well.

As it seems to be every week here on Massively, what to play this weekend is a problem of too many games and too little time. A weekend is a scant 48 hours in duration and there are so many games crying out for our love and attention. And no matter how you try divide your time, you're always playing favorites. (And you know what they say about an MMO scorned, don't you?) At any rate, here at Massively HQ we're continuing to juggle more games at once than is really feasible -- and we're already anticipating our favorites of 2010. If you want to know what the staff is playing -- or if you just want to chime in about what you're playing -- read onward!
Continue reading WRUP: What we're looking forward to edition

WRUP: What we're looking forward to edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 30 Jan 2010 09:00:00 EST. Another weekend is upon us, and this one brings with it a birthday for one of us and an unbirthday for all of the rest! For those of you in the audience whose birthday is today, let us at Massively wish you a happy one. And for those of you who aren't having a birthday? Well, celebrating unbirthdays is fun, too, isn't it? But both birthdays and unbirthdays aside, it's still a weekend and a weekend means it's time to WRUP! For this week's WRUP we aren't just talking about what we're doing in-game this weekend -- we're also diving back into the depths of the past to talk about our favorite MMO classes. (Though as usual, none of us can agree on favorite games for the week -- much less favorite classes amongst the myriad of possible options!) Care to join us? Read on to see what we're playing and to contribute your own notes!

Continue reading WRUP: A very merry unbirthday edition

WRUP: A very merry unbirthday edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 23 Jan 2010 09:00:00 EST. Okay, maybe some of us would rather be sleeping in this weekend -- but there are plenty of us who are eager to get a start in the latest delicious beta to hit the streets. We could only be talking about Star Trek Online, of course! (Those of you paying close attention at home may notice this is the third edition of WRUP in a row that has been plastered with an STO screenshot. It just can't be helped -- they're so shiny and the new hasn't had a chance to wear off yet!) And though not all of us here at Massively HQ are beta-ing it up this weekend, we do all have our favorite games to spend time in. Want to know what everyone on the Massively staff is up to? Well, you're just going to have to read on to find out.
Continue reading WRUP: I'd rather be sleeping in edition

WRUP: I'd rather be sleeping in edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 16 Jan 2010 10:00:00 EST. Another week has passed us by, which means only one thing: another weekend of game-time is upon us! And in the depths of winter, with snow piling high outside, what better way to keep warm than by staying close to your old friend the computer? So if you, like us, are staying indoors this weekend with your favorite games for company, why not take this opportunity to chat about them? Read on to see what the Massively team is playing this weekend -- and to let us know what you're up to, in-game and out!
Continue reading WRUP: Winter wonderland edition

WRUP: Winter wonderland edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 09 Jan 2010 20:00:00 EST. We hate to tease, dear readers. So to the poor unfortunates who are not in STO's beta, let's simply assure you that we're not out learning to pilot starships or picking fights with Klingons. Of course not. It would be terribly unkind of us to brag about these things to an audience out in the cold. We'll just be sitting around Massively HQ all weekend playing the same old MMOs -- really, it's hardly worth even posting about is it? Probably not even worth the bother of clicking through to read the rest of this post.

...are they gone?
Good. Because, well, a few of us might be in the beta. And those of us who aren't? Well, we're pretty darned jealous of the ones who do. But with less than two months to the game's official launch, there's not much longer to wait.
Continue reading WRUP: We're not playing Star Trek Online edition

WRUP: We're not playing Star Trek Online edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 19 Dec 2009 09:00:00 EST. We've quested through another long and tiresome work-week to make it to the weekend beyond. And what is this weekend filled with? Games, games, and more games! It's time to get our MMO on.

...okay, we're sorry about that last line -- it was a mistake, written in a moment of uncreative weakness, and we'll never do it again. Or at least we won't do it again until we've forgotten we used it in the first place -- but either way, you're safe for a while. But regardless of our word-related failings, it's the weekend, and that's time to play games. So what is the Massively team playing this weekend? What are the Massively readers playing this weekend? Read all about it, onward...
Continue reading WRUP: Quest for the weekend edition

WRUP: Quest for the weekend edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 12 Dec 2009 09:00:00 EST. What's the Massively crew up to in game this weekend? As usual, we're all over the map, trying to find the hours in the day to play every MMO out there. (Not that we have -- though we're working on exciting new technology that will add a twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth hour to the day, which will certainly help.) And as if current MMOs weren't enough, on the horizon we have exciting new games like Guild Wars 2 and Star Trek Online and... well, far too many others to list. So we'd best enjoy our free time while we have it, before the next generation of MMOs shows up to devour the rest of our idle hours. Now, for more of what the Massively team is playing -- and to let us know what you're playing -- read on!
Continue reading WRUP: Another week, another weekend

WRUP: Another week, another weekend originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 05 Dec 2009 09:00:00 EST. Has another week come and gone already? Oh how the days fly by -- sometimes literally, with super-speed. But it's all for the best, really, because the weekend is a time where we can game peacefully and undisturbed. (Well, at least sometimes, depending on the current state of spouses/children/friends/pets.) So, without any further delays, let's talk about what the Massively team has gotten into playing this weekend. And, if you'd rather just talk about yourself -- well, that's okay, too. Just drop a note in the comments and tell us (and your fellow readers) what you're playing this weekend.
Continue reading WRUP: Who wants to be a superhero edition

WRUP: Who wants to be a superhero edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 21 Nov 2009 13:00:00 EST. With so many delicious gaming options available, we have to agree with Tracey's conclusion: who needs to go outside? Virtual life is often by far the more exciting -- though we are all curious about this RL outdoor instance Krystalle is talking about. Either way, it's safe to say that this weekend the Massively staff is getting into as much trouble (virtually, of course) as is possible in the space of two tiny days. So, without further ado, read onward to see what the Massively team is playing -- and to tell us what you're playing!
Continue reading WRUP: Who needs to go outside edition

WRUP: Who needs to go outside edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 07 Nov 2009 12:00:00 EST. Pre-WRUP disclaimer: The Star Trek Online screenshot above is unrelated to what any of us are playing this weekend. (Sad but true.) But it is what we all wish we were playing in our heart of hearts -- and the latest game screenshots are just so pretty that who can really fault us for wanting to stare at them again and again?

But now, without further aside, let's get back on-topic and talk about what the Massively team is playing this weekend.
Continue reading WRUP: What we are (and aren't) playing edition

WRUP: What we are (and aren't) playing edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 31 Oct 2009 09:00:00 EST. As another weekend dawns upon us, we're left with some tough decisions to make. Namely, with countless MMOs (and let's not even get started on the non-MMO options) at our disposal, what should we play this weekend? Decisions, decisions...

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've actually been losing a lot of enthusiasm for playing EVE Online lately. I decided not to apply for this term of the Council of Stellar Management and haven't logged in much. I've been spending my spare time playing a little Master of Orion II and another single-player 4X game called Galactic Civilizations II instead.

Brooke Pilley (@Snafzg): Let's just see if I can hit 25 in Aion this weekend. I'm 10-days behind the curve due to vacation, but it was worth it! :P

Eliot Lefebvre: I've got some more DDO to play, but I think much of the weekend will be spent offline with a dear friend -- Final Fantasy XII. All the news about XIV has gotten me in the mood for it again.

James Egan (@jamesegan): I'm gearing up for a Legion Tech III cruiser in EVE Online and should be good to go this week. I might need to liquidate some of my assets to cover the full cost though. EVE will probably be the only MMO I play this weekend, especially as I hear the call of Steam and TF2 once again -- it's been WAY too long. Also my friend headed off to Scotland for a month and loaned me his Xbox 360 game collection so there'll be no small amount of console gaming this weekend for me. Plus, y'know, writing.

Kyle Horner (@Kylehorner): I'm playing the moving game, where you box up all your belongings, shove it all into a vehicle and see how long it takes you to move and unbox everything at your new home. That's right, playing the moving game means you win a new home! At least, if you count still having to pay for everything a new home. Oh, I'll play probably play some Aion on my new laptop. Mmm, maximum settings. /drool

Rubi Bayer: I'm fascinated with DDO, and have been playing it daily as I have time. This weekend, though? Guild Wars. The Halloween events start tomorrow and heaven forbid I don't check out the new quests, visit the collectors, farm trick or treat bags, and hang around LA checking out the decorations. Otherwise? Still grinding that writing title. Love it!

Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): Fallen Earth for me!

Now that you know what we're playing this weekend -- it's time to 'fess up. What are you playing this weekend?
WRUP: It's all about EVE. This weekend, Brendan's breaking out the Amiga and William's going the Super Nintendo route. Back at Massively HQ, we've got to wonder -- were there MMOs for those platforms? (We have trouble recollecting the days before the advent of the internet and the era of massively multiplayer -- though we're vaguely sure that there was a time when these did not exist.) Well, at least some of us are getting our game on this weekend in proper MMO fashion:

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've been on something of a retro kick this week, playing old Amiga games like Heimdall 2, K240, and Frontier: Elite II (which are all awesome). Sometimes MMOs have to take a back seat as we connect with our inner twelve-year-olds :D

Dan O'Halloran: My friend turned me on to the Esteldin Bounty Quests in LotRO. Now that I have swift travel in Forochel, I'll be knocking those out for Legendary Item exp. Also, doing Crafting instances to max out my Prospecting before the expansion hits. Joined a new guild so hoping to get in some Turtle groups as well.

Eliot Lefebvre: I've finally caved in and decided to try DDO out, now that I've actually taken a look at how much you can buy in the game. I'm also still on my Mega Man kick, and want to see if I can blow through X5 over the weekend.

Kyle Horner (@kylehorner): More Aion and Champions Online for me this weekend. Just bought a new gaming laptop, too, so by next week I'll be playing them on that!

Tracey John (@TraceyJohn): I decided to roll a new Tauren Shaman in WoW. Because I hate sunlight. I've also got Big Apple Comic-Con in NYC this weekend, where I'll try to see William Shatner. And apparently Naughty By Nature are playing (yeeeaaah, I don't know). I'll try to tweet pics from the show floor!

Seraphina Brennan (@sera_brennan): This weekend is getting some play time with MAG, then perhaps sitting down to play some Aion and get me some more levels. Otherwise, there will be roleplaying, as there is every weekend for me. I <3 mah pen and paper RPGs!

William Dobson: I think I will be totally random this weekend and dust off my Super Nintendo. I suddenly have a craving for some good 16-bit gaming.

So that's what we're playing this weekend. Now chime up for yourselves! What are you playing?
WRUP: Old-school gaming edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 17 Oct 2009 17:00:00 EST. Hellloooooo? I was just going to write up this week's WRUP and if everyone could let me know what they're playing, it would be super helpful! Guys? Guys? Anybody home? Well, I can't tell you where everyone is -- perhaps they're actually gaming instead of slaving away over hot keyboards -- but of the Massively crew that responded, here's what they're playing this weekend:

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've been trying out a variant of my Invisible Legion strategic cruiser setup in EVE Online. I used the covert ops subsystem and the interdiction nullifier to easily bypass enemy camps and get to my destination, from where I've been trying out pirate missions. It seems to be working out so far!

Eliot Lefebvre: I've been enjoying a bit of offline fun going back through my collection of Mega Man games. Right now I'm working through Mega Man X4 idly. I'm also going to be trying to clock in a little more time on WoW in my relentlessly silly goal to outfit my paladin in a very specific suit of armor, and if I can find the time I'm thinking of giving DDO a shot.

James Egan: You down with ODST? Yeah you know me!

Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): I just had to reformat my drives. As such, I'll be playing the "install/patch all the MMOs" game on my desktop while I play Earth Eternal or Fallen Earth on my laptop. Such an exciting weekend. w00t.

Kyle Horner (@kylehorner): Champions Online is calling... Will I answer? Yeah, probably!

Seraphina Brennan (@sera_brennan): Parents are coming out for a weekend, so I'm taking them out to a nice place in town, and might take in a movie. Board games and roleplaying will also be included this weekend, sans parents, of course. MMO-wise, I'd really like to have some time to play Aion and Champions, please.

And now it's your turn! Tell us, dear readers -- what are you playing this weekend?
WRUP: The where'd everybody go edition originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 10 Oct 2009 18:00:00 EST. Another week culminates in another weekend. And with the launch of both Aion and Fallen Earth this week, it's a busy one! The problem, as always, comes down to countless available MMOs and only 24 hours in a day. So what's a gaming blogger to do? There are tough choices that need to be made. So, for the curious, here's what the Massively team is playing this weekend:

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): Having spent much of this week in EVE Online preying mercilessly on miners in wormhole space, I plan to take a break from piracy to make a little ISK. I'll be blitzing some class 5 sleeper anomalies with a few buddies using a new strategy that combines remote armor repair ships with energy transfers and ECM. Other than that I'll be catching up on some reading and getting some hours in on a game design project.

Massively is LFM! We're looking to expand our ranks with an MMO-loving writer (or two). So let's cut the small talk and get right down to business.

Please read this entire post before submitting any kind of application. I know it's long, but to do this job, you need to be able to read and follow instructions.
It's Saturday once again which means we all have time to dive into our favorite virtual fantasy (or other) worlds. But with so many options to chose from, who knows what the team will be playing week to week. So what's the Massively team playing? And what are you playing? To those of you in the US, happy 4th of July! To those of you elsewhere, also, we at Massively wish you a happy 4th of July! For a lot of us, the 4th is a time to celebrate the birth of our nation by blowing up a small part of it. So to those of you celebrating this weekend -- and those of you who aren't -- stay safe and if you really must blow anything up, we recommend doing it in the virtual sense.

So what's the Massively team playing over the weeekend?
Continue reading WRUP: Happy holiday weekend!

WRUP: Happy holiday weekend! originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 04 Jul 2009 10:00:00 EST. You may have noticed that Massively doesn't talk very much about World of Warcraft. Even though it's the biggest MMO on the block, our friends at WoW.com cover it so comprehensively that it seems silly for us to duplicate their efforts. But WoW is an MMO too, and it only makes sense to talk about it when there's news. So, from here on out, we'll be co-opting WoW.com's coverage when appropriate. When you see a post on Massively that says "WoW.com" in the upper left (as in the image above) with an unfamiliar writer's name -- that means you're seeing a post directly from our WoW-centric sister site! Is the month almost over already? We checked and double-checked our calendars and it looks like, yes, we've made it to the the last weekend of June. July, and more summer weather are just around the bend -- which makes it seem like a great time to beat the heat by staying indoors and play video games! Here at Massively hope you're all enjoying it, in or out of game. So... what are you up to this weekend? And what is the Massively team up to this weekend? You'll have to read on to find out...
Continue reading WRUP: Summer fun in the MMO sun

WRUP: Summer fun in the MMO sun originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 27 Jun 2009 09:00:00 EST. Another week has passed and left us with another weekend -- all the more time to game in, of course! That means it's time (or past time) to start planning: with only 24 hours to a day and 2 days to a weekend and that pesky need to sleep occasionally... we need a solid plan of attack to maximize our gaming time. So what is Team Massively playing this weekend? Surprisingly enough, not FPS this week! But for the details -- or to let us know what you're playing -- you're going to have to read on.

Continue reading WRUP: No one's playing Team Fortress this week?
