At <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/SOE-Live-2012/">SOE Live</a> last year, fans were told that the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-next">EverQuest Next</a></em> moniker was only a working title for the upcoming sandbox sequel to the Norrathian franchise. Most believed that the true name would not be revealed until the annual convention this year. However, one fan took to Twitter and point blank asked <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dave-georgeson/">Dave Georgeson</a>, the franchise director, about the impending title. And Georgeson answered! So the official title for <em>EQ Next</em> is -- *drum roll* -- <em>EverQuest Next</em>!<br />
<br />
Yes folks, the working title has now been declared the official title. Surprise! OK, maybe it isn't really a surprise, but there were plenty of creative ideas floating around for possible names that <em>could</em> have been used, not to mention ones I'm sure we haven't even heard yet. But for now, <em>EQN</em> is set in stone... or is it? The game itself <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/10/18/soe-live-2012-keynote-announcements/">was totally blown up</a> and redesigned from scratch, so it stands to reason the name could follow suit.<br />
<br />
Tell us, Massively readers, what name would you slap on the side of this sandbox? Ready for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/wurm-online"><em>Wurm Online's</em></a> summer update? It happens tomorrow, June 18th, and it's all about <a href="http://wurmonline.tumblr.com/post/52967515508/wurm-v1-1-summer-update-release-next-week">enhancing client performance</a> in the long-running browser-based sandbox. Also on tap are new housing extensions, fence types, mystical sorcery powers, and overhauls of the foraging and botanising system.<br />
<br />
The UI and the graphics are getting an overhaul, too, thanks to new creature models, animations, inventory grouping and more. So, yeah, it's a pretty substantial patch. You can read more about it at <em>Wurm's</em> official blog and be sure to check out our <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/07/second-wind-returning-to-wurm-online-is-a-process/">recent revisit</a> of the classic sandbox game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/wurm-onlines-summer-update-tweaks-graphics-ui-and-more/">Wurm Online's summer update tweaks graphics, UI, and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 10:00:00 EST. Tech 1 ships in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE Online</em></a> used to be arranged in tiers that determined the cost and power of the ship and what level of the appropriate skill was required to fly it. This gave a sense of progression back in 2004 when all we had was frigates, cruisers, and battleships, but developers have since filled in the gaps between ship classes with destroyers, battlecruisers, strategic cruisers, and tech 2 ships of all shapes and sizes. In a recent game design initiative, CCP has been removing the tiers from within each tech 1 ship class by buffing the lower-tier ships up to the same rough power level as the largest ship in its class.<br />
<br />
The recent <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/odyssey"><em>Odyssey</em></a> expansion saw <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/02/eve-evolved-get-ready-for-odyssey/">the humble battleship buffed beyond all recognition</a>. The Megathron, Raven, Tempest, and Apocalypse all became extreme damage-dealing powerhouses, but the Dominix, Scorpion, Typhoon, and Armageddon were buffed the most. Each of them can now fit several monster setups, dealing upward of 1,000 damage per second or completely disabling enemy ships with energy neutralisers and electronic warfare. The build costs of these tier one battleships were more than doubled in the expansion, but prices are only slowly rising due to the existing stock on the market. That makes the tier one battleships incredibly cost-effective PvP powerhouses at the moment, and players are beginning to take advantage of it.<br />
<br />
In this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-evolved/">EVE Evolved</a>, I experiment with PvP setups for the newly revamped Typhoon, Armageddon, Scorpion, and Dominix battleships.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/eve-evolved-fitting-battleships-for-pvp-in-odyssey/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Evolved: Fitting battleships for PvP in Odyssey</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/eve-evolved-fitting-battleships-for-pvp-in-odyssey/">EVE Evolved: Fitting battleships for PvP in Odyssey</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 16 Jun 2013 18:00:00 EST. So <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2013">E3</a> happened this past week. If you're a Massively regular, you're no doubt aware of that since we spammed up our front page and your RSS feed with gobs of hands-on coverage including everything from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-crew">racing games</a> to <em><a href="http://www.elderscrollsonline.com">The Elder Scrolls Online</a></em>.<br />
<br />
One thing we didn't cover was <a href="http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/"><em>Star Citizen</em></a>, because thankfully, <a href="http://www.cloudimperiumgames.com/">Cloud Imperium's</a> upcoming space sim sandbox didn't bother with an official E3 presence.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/stick-and-rudder-on-star-citizens-e3-absence/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stick and Rudder: On Star Citizen's E3 absence</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/stick-and-rudder-on-star-citizens-e3-absence/">Stick and Rudder: On Star Citizen's E3 absence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 16 Jun 2013 14:00:00 EST. If a game has spent a year in beta with no launch in sight, good things are not generally around the corner. So it goes for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Salem/">Salem</a></em>, the early-America-themed permadeath sandbox MMO. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paradox-Interactive/">Paradox Interactive</a> has decided to <a href="http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&amp;t=6800">separate from the title altogether</a>, leaving all costs and work associated with the game in the hands of the two-man development team at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Seatribe/">Seatribe</a>. The split will be final on July 8th, with a slow phase-out in place until then.<br />
<br />
According to the official announcement, both Paradox Interactive and Seatribe feel that this decision is for the health of the game now and in the future, and there are no immediate plans for a shutdown or anything of the sort. Players will be given a discount coupon for Paradox Interactive's online store and a free bundle of <em>Salem</em>'s microtransaction currency. What happens with the game after the handover is complete <a href="http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&amp;t=6800">remains to be seen</a>.<br />

To an outsider, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/CCP-Games/">CCP Games'</a> focus on <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/EVE-Online-s/">EVE Online's</a></em> player panel, comics, incoming television series about player adventures, and museum induction show just how much the company works to earn its players' respect, which might sound weird for studio running a cutthroat PvP sandbox. But I've always felt as if I made stronger personal attachments through high-stakes PvP than through most other gaming activities. I don't play <em>EVE</em> or its console cousin <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/DUST-514/">DUST 514</a></em>, but after stopping by the CCP booth for my interview and hands-on at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2013/">E3</a> yesterday, I feel as if I should be doing more than reading and writing about it.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/14/e3-2013-dust-514-and-eves-virtual-reality-demo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2013: DUST 514 and EVE's virtual reality demo</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/14/e3-2013-dust-514-and-eves-virtual-reality-demo/">E3 2013: DUST 514 and EVE's virtual reality demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 14 Jun 2013 16:00:00 EST. The more convention coverage I read and the more conventions I go to, the more I'm concerned by them. The atmosphere is unlike anything I've ever experienced before, and rubbing shoulders with the developers of some of my favorite games has its perks. But you hardly ever get to the meat of what determines a great game. Amidst the hype and free booze, every game looks and tastes great, but even the greatest games are less filling under those circumstances. Even we observers from home receive only a candy-coated glimpse of what a game really offers.<br />
<br />
The news pouring in from the <a href="http://theelderscrollsonline.com"><em>The Elder Scrolls Online</em></a> really exemplifies the layers of fluff that the convention atmosphere can place on a game. Two of our reporters spent time talking to the developers of the next venture into the world of Tamriel, and both stepped away with a very positive experience. Admittedly, I feel the excitement, too. I'm twitching with joy. Our freelancer Andrew's note that he "<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/e3-2013-hands-on-with-the-elder-scrolls-online/">just didn't realize [he] was starting a quest when [he] talked to [quest givers]</a>" piques my interest. Have we finally found a game that feels like a living world? And quotes from the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-elder-scrolls-online/"><em>ESO</em></a> developers like, "<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/e3-2013-bethesda-talks-next-gen-consoles-endgame-and-characte/">You can pick up a sword and shield if you start as a sorcerer class and become a sword and shield user, and that's fine</a>" have me wondering if we haven't stumbled upon the best mix of sandbox and themepark in an MMO.<br />
<br />
This week and next, I want to delve deeper into the reports from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2013/">E3</a>. Do we find some concerns that the developers are trying to gloss over, or is <em>ESO</em> everything we ever wanted from an Elder Scrolls game?<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/14/tamriel-infinium-everyone-gets-an-elder-scrolls-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tamriel Infinium: Everyone gets an Elder Scrolls game!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/14/tamriel-infinium-everyone-gets-an-elder-scrolls-game/">Tamriel Infinium: Everyone gets an Elder Scrolls game!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 14 Jun 2013 13:00:00 EST. The European cousin to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-wushu">Age of Wushu</a></em>, the martial arts sandbox already released in North America, is finally cracking open its beta doors to let in select players next week. That's right: <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/age-of-wulin/">Age of Wulin</a></em> starts closed beta on Monday, June 17th. But eligible testers needn't wait until then to make their characters; <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gpotato/">gPotato</a> has enabled access to the launcher until the evening of the 15th to let players create their avatars and reserve their names. Players should note that CBT characters <em>will</em> be wiped for when beta opens to all.<br />
<br />
Got other questions about <em>Age of Wulin's</em> upcoming closed beta? If so, gPotato has some answers via its new <a href="http://en.wulin.gpotato.eu/News/announcements/1395476/14-06-2013/Important-Information-about-Closed-Beta">FAQ</a>. For instance, this closed beta will be short but all players will enjoy full VIP status. Another important item to note is that <em>AoW</em> will <em>not</em> have an NDA; players are welcome to talk about, review, livestream, and share their in-game experiences with others. And for those who haven't yet received a closed beta key, don't worry -- more were sent out today. While checking your email, catch the closed beta trailer after the break.<br />

How would a PlayStation 4 version of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dayz"><em>DayZ</em></a> grab you? Mod creator <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dean-hall">Dean Hall</a> is apparently considering it <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-13-dean-hall-in-talks-to-bring-dayz-standalone-to-ps4">according to a blurb</a> at Eurogamer.<br />
<br />
Hall outlines the differences between publishing on Sony's console vs. Microsoft's, the latter of which requires a hefty fee for each update as well as a pre-existing publisher relationship. Hall tells Eurogamer that he's definitely interested in both platforms but his focus is currently on the standalone PC version of his celebrated <em>Arma 2</em> mod.<br />
<br />
"That's definitely something we'd look at, but we have to do the PC version first. Once we get the alpha out, that's a good time for us to run it up on a [PS4] dev kit and see what happens," he explained.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/13/hall-considering-ps4-version-of-dayz/">Hall considering PS4 version of DayZ</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 13 Jun 2013 19:30:00 EST. We still haven't gotten any inkling from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/xl-games">XLGAMES</a> or <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion">Trion</a> regarding <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/archeage"><em>ArcheAge's</em></a> western business model. A freemium model of some sort is probably a safe bet, though, particularly now that the Korean version of the game -- which launched as a subscription-only title -- is gearing up for a F2P switch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.mmoculture.com/2013/06/archeage-new-free-to-play-business-model-announced-starting-july/">MMO Culture</a> reports that, starting July 3rd, <em>ArcheAge</em> Korea will cease selling time cards in favor of premium 30- and 90-day packages that offer in-game advantages like faster labor point recovery, item exchange vouchers, the ability to own a house, and assorted buffs. The site also says that XL will implement account services like name changes, aesthetic changes, and server transfers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/archeage-going-f2p-in-korea-on-july-3/">ArcheAge going F2P in Korea on July 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 12 Jun 2013 18:30:00 EST. Over a heaping smorgasboard of food yesterday, I was given a healthy dose of the logical functions of the universe. The universe of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/tug"><em>TUG</em></a>, that is, and the professor of the hour was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Peter-Salinas/">Peter Salinas</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Nerd-Kingdom/">Nerd Kingdom</a> founder and expert in just about everything science. At this year's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/E3-2013/">E3</a>, Massively got to test a functional tech demo that showed some progress over earlier video capture and artwork, and Salinas told me about <em>TUG</em>'s mechanics and how the systems of the game work together to create a unique experience.<br />
<br />
"A lot of the tacky-looking games on the internet are impressive by design, but they just don't have a lot of visuals to support what that design is," he explained cryptically. "Every once in a while, a game comes out and its systems are amazing, so a publisher will snatch it up, put [those systems] into a game, and then realize they don't want to use it. [So the developer] gets shelved. That's why we want to stay independent." The indie market proves innovation is still in demand, and the design of <em>TUG</em> is a lot more complex when one starts to peel back the layers like an onion (but not an ogre).<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/e3-2013-the-secrets-of-tugs-universe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2013: The secrets of TUG's universe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/e3-2013-the-secrets-of-tugs-universe/">E3 2013: The secrets of TUG's universe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 12 Jun 2013 18:00:00 EST. What's life without a little weather to keep things interesting and give socially awkward people something to talk about around the water cooler? While many MMOs have given up on including weather systems, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-wushu"><em>Age of Wushu</em></a> kindly disagrees. The title is preparing to roll out dynamic weather in a forthcoming update, and a new teaser trailer hints at the possibilities that it could present.<br />
<br />
The trailer shows a character running through a storm at night. Sheets of rain come down as the occasional bolt of lightning illuminates the surroundings for a few seconds. Check out the video after the break, and don't forget your poncho if you're heading into this title!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/age-of-wushu-forecasts-weather-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Age of Wushu forecasts weather system</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/age-of-wushu-forecasts-weather-system/">Age of Wushu forecasts weather system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 12 Jun 2013 15:30:00 EST. Fantasy sandbox MMO <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Black-Desert/">Black Desert</a></em> has graced the internet with 13 new screenshots showing off the game's gorgeous environments, characters, creatures, and more.<br />
<br />
As discovered and translated by <a href="http://www.steparu.com/news/front-page/1258-black-desert-e3-new-screenshots">Steparu</a>, these screenshots originally appeared on the Korean gaming news site <a href="http://www.inven.co.kr/webzine/news/?news=59004">inven.co.kr</a>. Sometimes a space cowboy or cowgirl just wants to gaze out of the cockpit and marvel at the beauty of the cosmos. Sometimes being that pensive is a good way to get podded, but at least those final moments are spent in awe.<br />
<br />
So whether or not you're facing imminent combat, we've got some new <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games/">CCP</a> eye candy for you. Below are several new screenshots from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE Online:</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/odyssey"><em>Odyssey</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dust-514"><em>DUST 514</em></a>, and after the break is the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2013">E3</a> trailer for <em>DUST </em>called Fight Your Own War. Enjoy!<br />

Zomg, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/archeage"><em>ArcheAge</em></a> beta signups are live! In the West! How cool is that? It's so cool that I could really just stop writing this post now and leave it at that.<br />
<br />
Seems we have this acceptable word count thing, though, so let's see. <em>ArcheAge</em> is a fantasy sandpark that's been in development for nearly six years by Korea's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/xl-games">XLGAMES</a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/lineage"><em>Lineage</em></a> creator <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jake-song">Jake Song</a> is the brains behind the game, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion">Trion Worlds</a> is publishing the title for the western market.<br />
<br />
The game's feature set is too long to list here, but it includes open PvP, sieges, extensive player housing, hang-gliders, sailing ships, steampunk tractors, and a whole lot more that you can learn about via our <em>ArcheAge</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/archeage">category</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/lost-continent">dedicated column</a>. Don't forget to look for our <em>ArcheAge</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2013">E3</a> interview later this week.<br />
<br />
[Update]: We've added the <em>ArcheAge</em> teaser trailer shown to the media at this week's E3. Watch it after the cut.<br />
<br />
[Thanks Soren!]<br />

It's a good day to be <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chris-roberts">Chris Roberts</a> or one of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cloud-imperium">Cloud Imperium</a> game developers working on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-citizen"><em>Star Citizen</em></a>. The upcoming space sim sandbox finally conquered the $10 million crowdfunding summit earlier this afternoon, and as a result, CIG will build its own motion capture studio.<br />
<br />
"We hit the unbelievable mark of ten million dollars and, as promised, we're adding an Optitrack motion capture system to our production pipeline in order to build the best, most immersive gaming experience that only a PC game can deliver," says the entry on CIG's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=vT3bEv_UBac">YouTube portal</a>.<br />
<br />
Head past the break for a video message from Roberts and a sneak peek at the Optitrack tech.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/star-citizen-tops-10-million-mocap-studio-a-go/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Citizen tops $10 million, mocap studio a go</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/star-citizen-tops-10-million-mocap-studio-a-go/">Star Citizen tops $10 million, mocap studio a go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 10 Jun 2013 19:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/tug"><em>TUG</em></a> has officially achieved its first stretch goal! That goal is alchemy, and the nerds at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/nerd-kingdom">Nerd Kingdom</a> are pleased to announce that <em>TUG's</em> Paypal crowdfunding initiative is moving right along. You might recall that the firm's successful Kickstarter project pulled in over $293,000 for its fledgling sandbox, and now that Paypal donations have pushed the whole shebang over the $300,000 hump, it's time to start getting excited about stretch goals.<br />
<br />
Alchemy is "an intermediate to advanced process of creation that may lead to darker practices and unlock things you perhaps should not have," Nerd Kingdom says.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/tug-makes-first-stretch-goal-unlocks-alchemy/">TUG makes first stretch goal, unlocks alchemy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 10 Jun 2013 18:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/odyssey"><em>Odyssey</em></a> expansion <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/02/eve-evolved-get-ready-for-odyssey/">has been live for a couple of days now</a>, but it's already starting to have a massive impact on <em><a href="http://www.eve-online.com">EVE Online</a></em>. Traffic through low-security space has increased significantly for the first time in years thanks to explorers hunting data and relic sites, and some players are even hunting asteroid belt NPCs in lowsec for the new security tags. New wars have erupted in nullsec following the redistribution of moon wealth, mining has become a more valuable profession, and the rebalanced battleships feel powerful again.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, <em>Odyssey</em> has seen its fair share of problems too. The new jump effect looks spectacular the first few times you see it, but long-term play is reportedly causing motion sickness in some players. Some players have also been objecting to the ice mining changes, and the revamped radial UI menu hasn't done much to fix the game's usability problems. Explorers in low-security space and nullsec are reporting incomes in the billions of ISK per day range thanks to the scan probe changes and new hacking minigame, but not everyone is happy with the new loot-scattering mechanic.<br />

In this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-evolved">EVE Evolved</a>, I look at the early impact of <em>Odyssey</em> on the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> universe and discover the secrets behind collecting all the valuable loot when hacking.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/09/eve-evolved-first-impressions-of-odyssey/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Evolved: First impressions of Odyssey</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/09/eve-evolved-first-impressions-of-odyssey/">EVE Evolved: First impressions of Odyssey</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 09 Jun 2013 18:00:00 EST. <a href="https://www.everquest.com/"><em>EverQuest</em></a> is one of those titles that just won't go away. I mean that in the best possible way, of course. After 15 years and 19 (yes, 19!) expansions, it's possible that I could be writing about this game a decade from now. And why not? I just spent <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/MUD-May/">a month covering MUDs</a>, some of them 20 years old, so why couldn't a game with such a rich history and loyal playerbase as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest/"><em>EverQuest</em></a>'s stick around, well, forever?<br />
<br />
I started playing around 2000 or 2001. I didn't catch on to it as much as my wife and soon was back in <a href="http://www.uoherald.com"><em>Ultima Online</em></a> and later titles like <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes/"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>. I have always kept up with <em>EverQuest</em> while still feeling a bit left behind because I didn't stay with it from the beginning. I am so jealous of a player who has actively played <em>any</em> game for 15 years. The character he or she has built has a wonderful story to tell!<br />
<br />
Well, I decided this week was time to finally try to get back into <em>EverQuest</em>. What I found wasn't really surprising because I had kept up with the game's developments and played here and there, but the community and the gameplay definitely caught me off guard.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/09/rise-and-shiny-revisiting-everquest-at-level-65/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rise and Shiny: Revisiting EverQuest at level 65</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/09/rise-and-shiny-revisiting-everquest-at-level-65/">Rise and Shiny: Revisiting EverQuest at level 65</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 09 Jun 2013 12:00:00 EST. After being away from <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Wurm-Online/">Wurm Online</a></em> for almost a year, I have to admit I was a bit scared to return. Anxiety levels are high as you log in and have a quick scan of the area to see if you're surrounded by something that will immediately eat your face. It's also fairly unsettling to see how much of your stuff has rotted or been stolen since you left.<br />
<br />
In fact, once I determined that my house, my boat, and most of my possessions hadn't been taken by other players in my absence, I had to log back off. I just had to do something else offline for a bit while that anxiety flow slowed to a trickle.<br />
<br />
But I soon answered that unexplainable call to log back in and start my new life as a reborn Wurmian. I've heard so many great things about the <a href="http://wurmonline.tumblr.com/">game's improvements over the last few months</a> that I just had to check them out for myself.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/07/second-wind-returning-to-wurm-online-is-a-process/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Second Wind: Returning to Wurm Online is a process</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/07/second-wind-returning-to-wurm-online-is-a-process/">Second Wind: Returning to Wurm Online is a process</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 07 Jun 2013 10:00:00 EST.
