The Dragons, Templars, and Illuminati will have to wait two more weeks to dive into their organizations: Originally slated for June 19th, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world">The Secret World's</a></em> release is delayed until July 3rd. Early access will open on June 29th.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom</a> also announced the final two beta weekends. The first, titled "Hell Raised,'" will run from June 15th until June 17th and will include the Illuminati and Dragon starter experiences as well as allow players to leave Kingsmouth for the Savage Coast. We saw this with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online/"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a>: when the population dropped below the level <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sony-online-entertainment/">SOE</a> was looking for, it decided to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/06/dc-universe-online-rolling-out-megaservers-on-monday/">combine all the individual servers</a> into a small group of mega-servers. The same thing could be a distinct possibility for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>.<br />

Yesterday, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/23/the-old-republic-interview-on-patch-1-3-covers-lfg-perks-and-g/">we reported</a> on PC Gamer's interview with Lead Game Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/daniel-erickson">Daniel Erickson</a>. When asked if the new group finder would be cross-server, Erickson replied that it would be single-server because "we are coming up on a huge move to servers with massively higher population caps than we have today."<br />

Of course, there are no details about these massive servers yet, but this quote does suggest that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware/">BioWare</a> is looking for a critical-mass solution that is more than just simple character transfers. If you're looking for a free-to-play browser-based MMORTS title, there are plenty of them out there. The latest such comes courtesy of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/aeria-games">Aeria Games</a>. The company is launching <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/star-supremacy"><em>Star Supremacy</em></a>, a sci-fi RTS title featuring 2-D graphics in both space and planetary environments.<br />

<span>Players can choose from three different factions (the Altairians, the Seekers, and the UEO) and then set about gathering resources and building fleets before heading into combat. Aeria says that its title boasts quite a bit of gameplay choice, many of which "</span><span>will directly affect the outcome of combat and ensure that warfare in <em>Star Supremacy</em> is a dynamic and highly strategic affair."</span><br />

We've been following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/diablo-iii-players-report-eruption-of-hacked-accounts/">the mass reports</a> of hackers bypassing passwords and authenticators to rob <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/diablo-iii/"><em>Diablo III</em></a> accounts blind, and now we have a new twist on the story. While <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard </a><a href="http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5149619664?page=13#242">confirmed</a> "an increase in reports of individual account compromises," <a href="http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5149619846?page=29#571">the studio says</a> it has no hard evidence that hackers have found a way to skirt around the authentication system.<br />
<br />
Community Manager <a href="http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5149619846?page=29#571">Bashiok</a> said that the company is taking the claims "extremely seriously" and is investigating the rash of account compromises. "Despite the claims and theories being made, we have yet to find any situations in which a person's account was not compromised through traditional means of someone else logging into their account through the use of their password," he said. "While the authenticator isn't a 100% guarantee of account security, we have yet to investigate a compromise report in which an authenticator was attached beforehand."<br />
<br />
Blizzard is assisting compromised customers by restoring stolen items and rolling back their accounts. While <em>MWO</em> will be free-to-play with optional microtransactions, Operation Inception lets players invest their money up-front to get special goodies and an early start to the game.<br />

Players can buy into the founder's program starting June 19th. It will come in two tiers: a $30 veteran package and a $60 elite package. The veteran package includes $40 of in-game currency, a month of premium account status, a founder's tag, and early access. The elite package includes $80 of in-game currency, two months of premium status, the founder's tag, early access, and an exclusive BattleMech.<br />

It is not every day that a U.S. governor is the one to announce the launch window for an MMO, so savor the weirdness while you can: Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/18/rhode-island-governor-gives-38-studios-copernicus-mmo-a-june-20/">announced at a press conference</a> that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-studios/">38 Studios</a> will be releasing code-name <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/project-copernicus/">Project Copernicus</a> next summer. "What I understand is Copernicus is June of '13," Chafee said. He also stated that he thought the financial deal was a "risky enterprise" from the start.<br />

38 Studios Founder and Chairman Curt Schilling <a href="http://bostonglobe.com/business/2012/05/18/facebook-curt-schilling-denies-paid-himself-back-with-money-thanks-supporters-ailing-studios-video-game-company/EnqdY2flmq0Bf55m4YvdRM/story.html">said on Facebook</a> that rumors of his using the state funds to repay his personal investment in the company was "not true." In a separate post, Schilling attempted to set an optimistic tone: "We will find a way, and the strength, to endure."<br />

We have been following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rumor-38-studios-may-be-having-financial-trouble/">the financial turmoil</a> that 38 Studios is in following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/if-38-studios-goes-under-rhode-island-taxpayers-will-be-footing/">its default on paying back Rhode Island</a> for its $75 million loan. 	Since players aren't tremendously happy with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet/">ArenaNet</a>'s answer of "when it's ready" every time the question of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2/"><em>Guild Wars 2 </em></a>release date comes up, any hint of further clarification is something to be prized. As a game retailer, dates are the sort of thing that come up in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">GameStop</a>'s earnings calls. Covering the Q1 conference call released today, Gamespot has CFO Robert Lloyd stating that <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>has been bumped out of the current quarter, putting its release sometime after July. It's worth noting that as of this posting, GameStop's online listing still had the <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>release date as June 26th.<br />

	As has been repeated countless times by ArenaNet devs, no information should be treated as official unless it's directly from them. Everyone seems to freak out about grabbing his or her special character name at the launch of a new MMO, and we imagine <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> will invoke the same emotions. Instead of leaving this oh-so-important action to Day One, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet">ArenaNet</a> is giving players a chance to reserve their <em>Guild Wars 2</em> names... <a href="http://www.arena.net/blog/reserving-your-character-name-for-guild-wars-2">starting today</a>.<br />
<br />
The way it works is that ArenaNet will be reserving all current <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> names for the launch, and players attached to those names can then swoop in and collect them from the start. Three caveats are attached to this process, however: You have to log into <em>Guild Wars </em>sometime in 2012, you have to claim your names in <em>Guild Wars 2</em> by launch day, and you can't secure <em>Guild Wars 2's</em> single names (as <em>Guild Wars</em> forces you to make two-word names).<br />
<br />
The studio says that there are 20 million two-word names in use at this point, and we suspect that list will grow much longer after today. These names can be reserved at any point from now until whenever ArenaNet decides to compile its master list. OK, have we all gotten the jokes about <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Diablo-III/">Diablo III</a></em>'s launch out of our systems yet? Not quite? It's understandable, since the huge and much-hyped launch wound up with a <em>lot</em> of serious problems from the start. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a> isn't oblivious to the problems, however, and an official statement from community manager <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Bashiok/">Bashiok</a> <a href="http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5150106401">apologizes for the issues that players have been experiencing</a>. Bashiok chalks the incidents up as a simple matter of human error: "Despite very aggressive projections, our preparations for the launch of the game did not go far enough."<br />
<br />
In order to make sure that the game is running smoothly for everyone before adding another wrinkle, Blizzard is moving back the auction house launch from May 22nd to an as-yet-unspecified later date. He also does note that the game should now be running fine for everyone, with requisite knocking on wood. I'm not much of a shooter fan and probably never will be. Sure, I have as much fun blasting my way through monsters as the next gamer, but I rarely have the patience or physical stamina to overcome the pains and frustrations of shooter PvP. After all, my first rule of PvP applies especially well to shooters: <em>There is always someone better than you</em>. <a href="http://www.planetcyrene.com/html/index.html"><em>Planet Cyrene</em></a>, the new world being added to the impressive portfolio of <a href="http://www.entropiauniverse.com/">Entropia Universe</a>, tasks players tasks similar to those found in <a href="http://www.planetcalypso.com/home/?"><em>Planet Calypso</em></a> and mixes in PvP arenas that promise to frustrate (or delight) players, depending on their skill level. I sat down with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ed-robles-III/">Ed Robles III</a>, lead developer for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/entropia/">Planet Cyrene</a>,</em> to see just how nasty and expensive things might get.<br />

<a href="http://diablo3.com/"><em>Diablo III</em></a> officially launched at midnight last night, opening the floodgates on what is possibly the most pre-ordered PC game in history. It's been almost 12 years since the previous game in the series launched, and it's still going to this day. Whether you've played previous games, have taken part in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/diablo-iii"><em>Diablo III</em></a> beta or are taking your first steps into Sanctuary today, everyone starts with a clean slate. In this article, I give my top five tips for spending your first few days wisely in <em>Diablo III</em>.<br />

<strong>#5 - Spend most of your time on one character</strong><br />
<br />
It seems like a bit of a no-brainer to initially focus on one character, but in <em>Diablo III</em>'s case, there's a special reason to do it. You'll likely finish normal mode around level 20-30, and until then, you'll get a new skill almost every level. It's only when you've completed normal mode and moved on to nightmare that the challenge really starts and you will have picked out an effective set of skills. Your last active skill unlocks at level 30, and from then on <a href="http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/character-progression-charts">you'll gain a combination of two to three runes or passive skills every level</a> until you hit the level cap at 60.<br />

It's been a rollercoaster week for Australian <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/diablo-iii/"><em>Diablo III</em></a> fans who pre-ordered their copies of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard's</a> long-awaited dungeon crawler at <a href="http://www.game.com.au/">GAME</a>. The troubled retailer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/game-australia-enters-voluntary-administration/">went into administration</a> yesterday, leaving customers in the lurch without their game or their refunds.<br />
<br />
Blizzard has since stepped in and offered to make good with a free digital copy as long as fans have a valid pre-order receipt. Kotaku has <a href="http://kotaku.com/5910302/blizzard-shouts-unlucky-diablo-iii-fans-a-free-copy-of-diablo-iii">all the details</a> on how to submit your receipt and receive your credit. If all goes well, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft's</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/blade-and-soul/"><em>Blade &amp; Soul</em></a> will be making its public debut in July. That's the good news; the bad news is that the launch will be confined to Korea for the time being.<br />

The company <a href="http://www.thisisgame.com/en/2012/05/15/bladesoul-is-expected-to-launch-in-july">recently announced in an earnings call</a> that the title is on track to go into open beta testing by June and then launch this July. There's some hope at NCsoft that the release of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/diablo-iii/"><em>Diablo III</em></a> will grow the potential gamer audience in the country, an audience that could be attracted to <em>Blade &amp; Soul</em> come this summer.<br />

Currently the game is in closed beta, with the next round of testing commencing on May 22nd. The core of <em>Diablo</em> gameplay is the mouse click. You do everything from combat to looting to movement with your mouse, and your interactions with your keyboard are extremely minimal overall. On Twitter recently, many <em>Diablo </em>diehards have mentioned they were buying a new mouse specifically to use with <em>Diablo III</em> -- and that's not a bad idea. No, we're not talking a brand-new $80 Razer Naga; we're talking some $10 to $15 thing you can pick up off of a department store shelf. You want a mouse that you're not going to mourn when your buttons inevitably give out from the mountain of abuse you're about to unleash upon them. <em><a href="http://www.darklegends.com/">Dark Legends</a></em>, the new title from mobile MMO king <a href="http://www.spacetimestudios.com/">Spacetime Studios</a>, is already creating a buzz with its liberal use of an energy pool that is sapped as players go through standard gameplay. If this mechanic were packaged any differently and inside a sandbox, it's possible that people would call it "realistic" or "hardcore." Unfortunately, problems set in as soon as players realized that playing the game for hours on end would require some infusion of real-life funds or the ability to kill pretty large chunks of time in non-combat areas.<br />
<br />
I would argue that the gameplay does not have to be designed for marathon gaming sessions. It's very possible that the "casual" part of the game's description <em>actually means</em> "casual." I still had issues with the mechanic; don't get me wrong. But if I was bothered by anything it would be <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Dark-Legends/"><em>Dark Legends'</em></a> lack of borrowing features from <a href="http://pocketlegends.com/"><em>Pocket Legends</em></a>, Spacetime's flagship mobile MMO, which offers actual persistent areas and other MMO staples.<br />

Of course, it's possible that Spacetime is simply trying something new. Saying that it "feels as though a giant weight has been lifted off [his team's] shoulders" now that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera/"><em>TERA </em></a>has launched, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse</a> Senior Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/brian-knox">Brian Knox</a> has turned his attention to the immediate and far future of the game. He says that the team is hard at work ironing out "pain points" for players, but his big passion is working to make the PvP experience even better and to roll out the battlegrounds this summer.<br />
<br />
"I want to continue to slowly iterate our PvP-server rules," Knox said in an interview published yesterday. "I think <em>TERA's</em> skill-based system is a natural fit for PvP players, and I want to develop a system that encourages and rewards PvP participants."<br />
<br />
Knox addressed the pace of the leveling experience (he says it should be a "smooth and even ride" if players follow the story and do all the quests), the price of teleportation scrolls (expensive for lowbies, affordable for veterans), and what to do at the endgame (answer: a lot).
