We hope you like metaphors because <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bungie">Bungie</a> is bringing a whopper of one to you through the magic of a <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/destiny/">Destiny</a></em> official trailer. The trailer is framed by a father reading to his son <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Law_of_the_Jungle">The Law of the Jungle</a> at bedtime, mentioning wolves and packs in such a way that we totally aren't thinking of The Hangover whatsoever.<br />
<br />
Of course, there's a bit of the game setting in there too, with masked, cloaked soldiers pulling out big guns and showing the enemy the business. The trailer concludes by stating that there will be a worldwide gameplay reveal for <em>Destiny </em>at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2013">E3</a> on June 10th.<br />

It's a running joke on Massively that some readers believe our lives are glamorous and that we sleep in beds made out of free video game swag. The truth is that video game bloggers are working in this field because they love the job. At least that's how it is around here. Or maybe writing in our pajamas is too posh to pass up. But people still believe we are loaded with perks just because we get to wear fancy hats that say "PRESS." Just kidding. There are no hats.<br />

So funny story: In planning out in advance what I wanted to talk about in this biweekly <a href="http://nw.perfectworld.com"><em>Neverwinter</em></a> column, I had selected something that recently caught my eye about the game and made me happy. That something was the<em> </em><a href="https://gateway.playneverwinter.com/"><em>Neverwinter</em> Gateway</a>, a web portal that allows out-of-game players the ability to fiddle with their character sheets, auctions, professions, guilds, and mail. I thought -- and I still do -- that this was a nifty service that deserved a day in the sun.<br />
<br />
As I was getting set to write that column, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/neverwinter/"><em>Neverwinter's</em></a> economy exploded and then imploded over the course of a weekend, thanks to a nasty exploit that involved, yup, the Gateway. Suddenly my topic had to shift from "isn't this a neat tool?" to "check out what the tools are doing with this tool." Seeing the economy effectively destroyed in a matter of hours and how <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic-studios/">Cryptic Studios</a> dealt with this PR nightmare might be old news at this point, but it's definitely worthy of reflection, analysis, and speculation as to how trust can be rebuilt in this fledgling title.<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Square-Enix/">Square Enix</a> has announced today that <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/">Final Fantasy XIV</a></em>: <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/A-Realm-Reborn/">A Realm Reborn</a></em> is set for release on August 27, 2013 on both PC and PS3.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/final-fantasy-xiv-coming-this-summer-next-beta-phase-starting-i/">previous reports</a>, the third phase of the relaunched game's beta will begin some time next month. This phase will be the first time <em>A Realm Reborn</em> will be open to PS3 players during this beta.<br />

What's in a website? Quite a lot when your game is based in a browser client, as it happens. With <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/RuneScape/">RuneScape 3</a></em> around the corner, the team at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jagex/">Jagex</a> is hard at work putting together a new and improved website, and a new video from the development team shows off just what players can expect. Which is quite a lot.<br />
<br />
For example, one of the centerpieces of the revised design is a series of six buttons front-and-center on the page. The trick is that three of the buttons can be customized by you, allowing you to immediately jump to the most useful parts of the page for your particular playstyle. The team is also revamping the high score pages to incorporate weekly high scores, meaning that newer players can still have a shot at the top. There will even be rewards for people who do well in a given interval. Watch out: It's an unholy fusion of addictive trading card games with addictive massively multiplayer online roleplaying games! The clinics will be overrun and crime will run rampant as police will be too captivated by the bleeps and bloops of their computer boxes to do anything about it.<br />
<br />
That's the dire future that <a href="http://www.gamefuse.com/"><em>Kings and Legends Global</em></a> could usher in. Or it could just be an interesting title that mixes CCGs with MMOs to create a novel experience. The cards themselves can be customized, crafted, and traded by players and then used to battle in PvP and PvE environments. <em>Knights and Legends</em> will have four classes, seven races, an auction house, guild halls, a crafting system, and plenty of deck building to keep folks interested.<br />

He also chatted with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Carbine-Studios/">Carbine Studios</a> executive producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jeremy-Gaffney/">Jeremy Gaffney</a>, who pulls a Gaffney (I'm coining that) and can't resist leaking a bit of new info about tradeskills while filling Gavin in on how endgame will work, why we should play the Settler path, and whether talent trees are pass&eacute;. If you think making 10 pairs of cotton space pants sounds boring, then yeah -- you're going to like what he's got to say.<br />

There is something exciting about taking your first steps into the mysteries of a new planet. I was anxious to mingle with the locals, analyze artifacts, and even pick a few plants -- that is, until I saw a flower burst from the ground as a giant vine-like beast. As it chewed up the slinky Aurin next to me, I decided to leave the flowers for the next Scientist.<br />
<br />
So began my hands-on experience with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/wildstar/"><em>WildStar</em></a>, the exciting and often comical new MMO from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft/">NCsoft</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Carbine-Studios/">Carbine Studios</a>. The half-day event gave me time to play the Esper class, build some structures on the Settler path, and hurtle myself through the air in the name of science. There is so much to talk about!<br />

<div>This morning, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet">ArenaNet</a> dropped the price point of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/arenanet-permanently-lowers-guild-wars-2s-price-point/">$10 across all available editions</a>. In a follow-up chat about some of the decisions behind that move, Game Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/colin-johanson">Colin Johanson</a> talked a bit about community support, the game's regular update cadence, and the company's hopes for bringing <em>Guild Wars 2</em> into new markets.<br />
<br />
While a $10 price drop is not an extreme move, Johanson is confident that the change will bring <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>to new people. The company seems to be currently focused on building up community support. Just yesterday, some <a href="https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/community/api/API-Documentation">APIs were made available</a> to the public for the first time. We've already seen them put to use in real-time WvW tracking and event monitors. Johanson also talked about recent efforts to shore up the support for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/spvp">sPvP</a> and how the additions of custom arenas and spectator mode has led to viewers for sPvP streams "more than doubling" in the last few weeks. The game appears to be moving towards a twice-monthly update schedule. Johanson said that while ArenaNet has "not ruled out" the idea of future expansions, the company is committed to the idea of the living story.<br />
<br />
Johanson mentioned that <em>Guild Wars 2</em> is sitting solidly at "well over 3,000,000 copies sold" without tapping into the Chinese market. He added that the game just had its first <a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151558567044571.1073741825.42734604570&amp;type=1">closed beta test in China </a>and that the team is optimistic. ArenaNet hopes to make the Chinese version of the game as similar as possible to the existing one.<br />

So <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Perfect-World-Entertainment/">Perfect World Entertainment</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic-Studios/">Cryptic Studios</a> figure that <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Neverwinter/">Neverwinter</a></em> players may not exactly be happy about the list of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/neverwinter-counters-foundry-exploit-by-nerfing-xp-rate/">game-breaking bugs</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/neverwinter-returns-with-seven-hour-rollback-after-exploit/">exploits</a> found in the game's open beta over the last few weeks. Third-person MOBA <a href="\"><em>SMITE</em></a> has recently entered the competitive tournament scene with two new weekly $1,000 tournaments. <a href="http://riseofimmortals.com"><em>Rise of Immortals</em></a> also announced its first competitive tournament since the Battle For Graxia update and revealed details of its hilariously-named ranged centaur character Murderhoof.<br />

 <a href="\"><em>League of Legends</em></a> revealed the new custom item set feature coming in Patch 3.7 and published a new champion spotlight video on classic ranged carry Ashe. <a href="\"><em>Guardians of Middle-Earth</em></a> also released its latest paid DLC character, The Mouth of Sauron, based on a character who was originally cut from the cinematic release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.<br />

 <a href="\"><em>Diablo III</em></a> celebrated the first anniversary of its release on May 15th with anniversary livestreams and a magic-find bonus for all players. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/zenimax/">ZeniMax</a> scooped up all of the questions that fans had after seeing <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-elder-scrolls-online/"><em>The Elder Scrolls Online's</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/the-elder-scrolls-online-wants-you-to-explore-everywhere/">crafting and exploration video</a>, and answered several of the most pressing of them <a href="http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2013/05/20/ask-us-anything-gathering-and-exploration">in a new post</a>.<br />

<em>TESO </em>will feature five crafting professions: weaponsmith, armorsmith, enchanter, alchemist, and provisioner. Of these, players are able to train in two fields so that a robust economy will develop between crafters. While there aren't any recipes in the game, players have multiple avenues to combine ingredients and make the same item. The studio indicated that those who have played previous <em>Elder Scrolls</em> games might have an advantage in knowing familiar plants and crafting ingredients and how they interact.<br />
<br />
Other topics in the AMA include fishing lures, how big your library can get (there's no limit, basically), the use of Mundus Stones, and the difficulty of lockpicking. "Your lockpicking will automatically improve as you level, gradually making chests that were once very difficult to open a much easier prospect. The downside to writing about <a href="http://www.wildstar-online.com"><em>WildStar</em></a> in this stage of the game's lifecycle is that because of the very nature of beta tests, I'm going to be spending a lot of time speculating instead of talking about certainties. Last week, I speculated. I was wrong on some points, as I found out when I got a letter from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Carbine/">Carbine</a> clarifying some things that had previously been ambiguous enough for speculation.<br />

The upside to writing about <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/WildStar/">WildStar</a></em> in this stage of the game's lifecycle is that sometimes I get letters from development staff letting me in on valuable inside information.<br />

Aside from being able to clarify my previous incorrect speculation, I also have for you a number of other important bits of information regarding the game this week, including a brief discussion of whether or not the game will allow for flight on a regular basis. Over the weekend, a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/19/exploits-plague-neverwinter-economy-cryptic-responds">massive exploit</a> plagued <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Perfect-World-Entertainment/">Perfect World Entertainment</a>'s <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Neverwinter/">Neverwinter</a></em> beta as players discovered a way to make billions off of the auction house and Astral Diamond Exchange.<br />

After initially closing the economy to explore the company's options, PWE decided to do a <a href="http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?266901-5-19-13-Server-Status-Update-and-Important-Announcements">seven-hour rollback of the servers</a> that affects the progress made between 8:20 a.m. EDT (5:20 a.m. PDT) and 3:20 p.m. EDT (12:20 p.m. PDT) yesterday for all players.<br />

"Rest assured, the issue has been corrected and we have taken appropriate action against all players who took advantage of the bug, including but not limited to enforcing permanent bans," the announcement reads.<br />

Do you smell that on the wind, my friends? It smells like June is fast approaching, and more importantly it smells like soon we'll be able to welcome the third phase of testing with open arms. Which is good, since I am currently going through withdrawal. I wake up in cold sweats, try to change my class in other games, start up the <a href="http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a> beta client in the hopes that someone "accidentally" turned the servers back on... you get the general idea.<br />
<br />
To help alleviate this, I'm going to talk about the two pieces of the game from the first two beta phases that are in need of the most polish. While there are places to improve elsewhere, FATEs and dungeons have issues that might need a bit more hammering to fix. Or they might be fine and we just haven't yet seen enough of the game to know everything.
