Ugh, every time I see a great Champions Online
screenshot I lament to the universe how such a good-looking game flopped so hard. Shouldn't have been that way. Or maybe it's not; maybe it's the best-kept secret in MMOs and I don't know it.
Reader Sean sent in this picture of his team, the Agents of SWORD: "I used to play quite a bit of this game from closed beta through about four months after launch. Before the dark times. Before the patches. At any rate, I loved this game with a deep passion--mostly because the costume designer was near limitless. But then I was also able to run the game at max settings at 1920x1080 and it was glorious."
We have more gloriosity (go with it) for your starved eyes after the break!
What are these NPCs discussing in Star Wars: The Old Republic
? Could be trade secrets. Perhaps they're sharing the latest gossip about Corellian fashion stars. Maybe one of them has acquired the secret plans to the Star Kaablaminator and they're negotiating a price. Or -- and I suspect this most of all -- the NPCs are talking about players behind their backs.
"I'm not sure what they're talking about, but it can't be good," submitted reader Hodiru.
Sometimes you've just got to take a breather with your main character before you rush into the fray. In the following one shot, we see heroism on a five-minute coffee break, perhaps checking his Twitter account and deeply wishing that he lived in an industrialized world where people didn't have to run everywhere on foot.
"This is my character in RIFT
readily awaiting the hordes of planar invaders in Stillmoor, only to pound them into the ground like so many before them," reader Zuji relates.
A hero's work is never done. But sometimes it gets put on pause.
Our final one shot for the week is an oldie from Jedi Jon in Star Wars Galaxies
, who gives us a glimpse of his character Selique and a nearby tree. It's a fetching tree, quite fetching in fact, but one has to wonder what it has accomplished in life to warrant the honor of the print screen key. Maybe it saved an Ewok tribe or something. Yub yub.
Your screenshot challenge of the week is to show off your absolute worst costume, armor set, or piece of gear. C'mon, we've all got those shameful articles in our virtual closets, so let's dig them out and wince together!
Want to be featured in a future edition of One Shots? Send your favorite MMO screenshots to firstname.lastname@example.org, and don't forget to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of the scene. Large, colorful, UI-free shots that tell a story and really show off the game make for the best images. Look ma, we brought back One Shots!
