Although road trips can be just as fun when you just jump in the car and take off with no predetermined destination, at some point you have to end up somewhere. And it looks like we now know our destination. While I was safely strapped in my seat and watching the scenery, you readers have taken the City of Heroes exit. So it looks like a cape and superpowers will be on order for the next few weeks in Choose my Adventure. (Unless you nix the cape, of course.)
Surprisingly, this time around I actually managed to sit back and enjoy the ride without checking the poll results every 20 minutes of every day; I managed to restrain myself to just once a day! Maybe it was because I've let you have the keys before and knew that I really would enjoy the experience no matter where you took me. After all, you didn't get us in a wreck last time, did you? And Justin survived (relatively) unscathed, so what was there to worry about?
Perhaps on another trip we will be able to explore other exotic destinations, such as Anarchy Online, Star Trek Online, Asheron's Call, or even World of Tanks. I'll admit that I wistfully entertained images of visiting each of these destinations while I was glancing periodically at the polls, but for now, our course is set, and we will be arriving shortly. The first order of business before jumping into City of Heroes is a shot pitstop to develop our character. Be sure to get your vote in before Saturday, April 28th, 2012, at 11:59 p.m. EDT!
Here is where I admit that I have actually played CoH before, a little. In fact, the little game icon has taunted me each time I log into my NCsoft account. So it was pretty easy for me to just click the button on my launcher and get the game downloading. While doing so, I decided to take a look at my old account. It seems I picked up the game in 2009 and actually paid for a three month subscription. However, upon logging into the game, I saw that neither of the two characters I created has moved more than 10 feet past the place she first loaded into the game! Knowing me, I probably took that whole three months just to make it through character creation. Boy, am I ever so glad to have you guys here now, or else chances are CMA would end before I even got past that creation screen!
So, let's get get to it. The clock is ticking, and there is much to choose.
Following my heart
Closing in on our destination, we come to a fork in the road. Shall we make a right toward Paragon City or veer left and head to the Rogue Isles? It's up to you. Remember, I am only along for the ride. What will be the driving force of my heart? Will I be a paragon of virtue, a hero through and through, or a villainous rogue spreading mayhem and destruction?
|Well, duh! Truth, justice, and the pixeled way! Hero of course!||433 (66.8%)|
|Pfffft, need you really ask? Villain all the way, baby! *maniacal laughter*||215 (33.2%)|
Now that we have that choice out of the way, which archetype will I play? You really wanna pick, you know you do! Go ahead, no one is watching.
|Blaster (ranged/support)||80 (12.4%)|
|Brute (melee/defense)||101 (15.6%)|
|Controller (control/buff)||44 (6.8%)|
|Corruptor (ranged/buff)||51 (7.9%)|
|Defender (buff/ranged)||26 (4.0%)|
|Dominator (control/assault)||70 (10.8%)|
|Scrapper (melee/defense)||118 (18.2%)|
|Stalker (Melee/defense)||48 (7.4%)|
|Tanker (defense/melee)||17 (2.6%)|
|Mastermind (summon henchmen/buff)||92 (14.2%)|
Next, we have to decide what neighborhood we are going to settle in for the duration of our trip. Unlike many games where I see only a smattering of servers to choose from, City of Heroes has quite a few. So where will we take our first steps and learn the ways of heroism or villainy?
Super is as super does
The whole reason to be a superhero -- or supervillain, for that matter -- is for the power! OK, and maybe the cape, too. But the powers are what draw us to City of Heroes, and there are plenty of powers to choose from. Too many, in fact! Take a look for yourself and you can see why I can't get past character creation on my own. You you will understand when I don't create a poll for the power sets; our poll would be four pages long. Instead, just leave your recommendations in the comments below about what sets to choose according to the archetype you selected. Likewise, power effects will be up to my own discretion to prevent breaking our poll mechanism, but I value all input.
Now although you wont be choosing the power set or effects via a poll (but I promise I will be taking recommendations into consideration), the power pools are manageable enough to vote upon. So what will it be? Do I get to fly about the buildings or leap from rooftop to rooftop? Will I teleport to and fro or run at extreme speeds? I can't wait to see what you decide.
No, this isn't a ploy to trap you into a damned-if-you-do-and-damned-if-you-don't scenario like the dreaded "Does this make me look fat?" question. I have more subtle ways to torture you, such as inflicting a Choose My Adventure CoH livestream on you! (Yes, I will be including a couple of those in my weekly rotation on MassivelyTV.) However, there is no possible way to add costumes in all their variety and colors to a poll. So we will end our weekly poll with this singular choice:
|Sans mask||299 (48.2%)|
Now, let's get this party started!
