Who's to say that the GW toons weren't based on those 'celebs' to start with?

I smell a conspiracy!!!! Quick! Fetch the pitchforks and torches!

I always hate when the characters CONSTANTLY move when you're creating them. Stand still.

And and and...

Why spend all this effort on facial customisation when you spend 99.9% of game time staring at the back of your character's head?

Shouldn't they therefore provide more arse, pony tail and muffin top customisation features?

@Russell Clarke

How many years do you think it will take for a free to play game (Not this one) to sell scrolling advertising space on players backs (i.e.: NASCAR uniforms)?

@Gojant

As long as the game's suitably dystopian in theme, I think it could fit right in. In fact I'm surprised it hasn't happened already, given how it's so prevalent in real life (apart from the scrolling bit!)

That didn't look like it took too much fiddling with the sliders. Two or three sliders, hair and beard, voila, Clint Eastwood. To me it gives the impression that by default the characters are designed to look ... lets say... familiar.

I am so grateful to Anet for giving us character customization. Customization in the original GW is still head and shoulders above a certain other genre leading MMO but I am glad Anet isn't standing still.

Will be so nice to not see everyone as a clone.

This is nothing compared to the innovation of 10 preset faces per race.

I wouldn't recognise one of these celebs if i saw them without the celeb picture next to them ( maybe with the exception of liam neilson ) . But this character creation is pretty amazing .

Since I can't post this in the article about the new comment system, will just say this here.

Was nice being a part of the Massively community, but I went through this whole no anonymity fiasco when Blizzard tried to put it's whole "Oh it's only for real life friends and family" Real ID system on the forums.

I refuse to sign up for Facebook because of how aggressively they sell peoples information, not to mention Zuckerberg's philosophy on how he should own people's content even if they delete their FB account. Hate that AOL is going down this path.

Oh well, take care and maybe I will see some of you on other boards.

@ Faction 3

Lol!

@Everyone else

This looks the last time I'll be posting here. Since the new comment system is not honoring my account here. And 2 of the 6 sites listed that I can't log in with because it uses my real name - that's simply unacceptable. And one that supposedly recognize's my WordPress account, doesn't. So I guess I am SoL.

...or maybe not, since a friend has offered to set me up with alternative account to the 3 I can't use. But we will see how that works. Perhaps I'll have something by the beginning of next week...where then I get to post an offical blue streak at Joystick for horribly inconveniencing me.

And remember, the best comment systems are the ones that lets everyone comment without hassle. This new system fails in so many ways in doing that. /shrug

...sorry for the off topic though. :(

Apparently, one can still log into the old system, at least for now.

Yeah, I am feeling like a ghost alluvasudden. Roaming empty halls.

@Space Cobra
But you can't post in the new comment system with the massively login. As a matter of fact, the Massively log in has disappeared.

And I really hate this attitude of "Oh anonymity ends trolling and makes a friendlier community". No, it really doesn't. Have they not seen the epidemic of bullies posting videos to Youtube that shows their face and name for the world to see who they are? Not to mention the texts they send to each other not caring who knows.

I once asked when the whole Real ID on the WoW forum fiasco exactly how showing your real name to everyone was suppose to cut down on trolling and such. Is there suppose to be real life consequences for writing a bad post? Should someone be hunted down and beaten up, or thrown out of school or fired from a job simply because they write something someone else doesn't like? And isn't this a stifle of free speech which is what the internet is one of the last true bastions of?

And let's be honest, the term troll is thrown around haphazardly even at posts that aren't true troll posts. If someone disagrees with someone, how often have we all seen people call that person a troll simpky because of the disagreement? Many people I disagree with on here, but I can still recognize the thought put behind their posts and won't even so much as downvote because they put thought behind their position, much less call them a troll.

Hopefully Massively will just show some integrity and admit that they went with this new system because onviously money is being made by them. Nothing wrong with making money, but it does drive off legitimate users who would otherwise visit the site because of it. I have little to no respect for each and everyone of these companies they will make us log into if someone wishes to post a comment. They all want to invade our privacy, just look at Google's recent privacy policy change and Facebook's entire history. And I will not go to the trouble to create a bogus account just to post.

Kind of funny how we are suggested to violate those companies terms of service by creating the bogus account which is a form of trolling, all to do a system that they claim will cut down on trolling. Very strange.

Yeah, it's easy enough to "make a new account and all", but here is the deal that very few people get:

We are all honest folk.

The Banks that say you are "dead-beat" and institute laws that make declaring bankrupcty harder (so they can get their money)? Most people are asheamed of bankruptcy and want to make good on loans.

And this. Yeah, I could make another account (although I'd like the use of a "space" between my names and can't find a service that does that). Might have to change my name or shorten it (if available).

Still, really, we "honest" folk wring our hands. Yes, we make up info and use fake accounts to get at the "big corporate types". Sure, but we are tinged with guilt while those CROOKS are not. I may use another account and grow used to it, but I really do feel guilty. That's what most people don't understand. It is a bit of a hump, actually, but I'd rather not continually go over it.

I think I've been fairly honest; I don't really troll here. Posted well. Treated folks good for the most part. Like you, I understand sales but there comes a point all this stuff is meaningless, even in the age before the internet, people tried to collect info on you to sell to you and *that* didn't work out too well then. One gets too bored with ads, even if it's something you want; there are only so many things a person wants and once they buy, they are not gonna buy again (unless its a consumable).

...neither does Wikipedia.

@(Unverified)

But so you know, I've always post with this handle, whether it's here, Free Thoughts Blogs, or where ever else. It's because I don't want to be percieved as a drive-by troll that uses different handles to stir up trouble. What I object to, is being forced to normalize my handle under this new system...that does not use any of the third party agents that recongnizes this handle; but ones I use for a very select individuals.

I thought the reader should be given far more options, such as using their old Massively account or those 6 sites. After all, if Joystiq doesn't want one to post ever...just ban the user's IP. So Shuster's claim doesn't really fly. But it does remind me of this quote...since this new system is supposed make commenting a little more safe:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin

...just saying.
