@TerilynnS i'm replying here only cos this is the first post. But this news is wrong. They offer bonuses/cheaper stuff both for females playing females and males playing males. And groups with both genders in it gets bonuses etc.

@wahahabuh I know - and it's also very, very wrong. It smacks of being anti-homosexual. What if I don't LIKE playing with boys? Only straights get the bonus?

See? It's BAD. It stinks. It's nasty and all it does it work to DIVIDE people.

IMO - it's all heinous.

Interesting, make people play their own gender.
It'll certainly stop the people making this game roll a female, cyber with another "female" and after the deed is done, find out it was a man >_>'

Yeah. I find this.... seriously creepy.

I don't gender bend in MMOs - just not my thing - but trying to discourage it by making it more expensive (than not) strikes me as perverted.

Why does the developer care about concordance? Unless you're planning to sleaze onto and/or hook up with other players - again not my thing - the real gender of players is completely irrelevant.

Creepy...

Why does the female have to be playing a female character to get the buff if the intent is to bring in actual women? Discouraging cross playing on either gender's side is, on top of being a huge double standard for women, a big step backward in MMO design from my standpoint.

This whole concept is backwards.

Exactly.

Nothing is stopping me from making a Facebook account called "Lady McWeakpanties", label it female, then play the game from that joke account to get all the arse-backwards advantages it entails.

I'm sorry, what? Can the videogame industry stop acting like adolescent boys? Attempts like this to make girls play games just makes the whole industry look incredibly immature. This is like the service that let's guys pay money to play games with women online. Stuff like this does nothing but hurt the attempt to change the image of the gamer from the basement dwelling virgin that can't interact with people in real life.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that trying to get more women to play is really a means of enticing more guys to play in the hope of playing a game with real live girl.

@laelgon

It has nothing to do with maturity. It's no different than a bar offering specials to attract a female crowd. This is how the world works. Not a big deal in my opinion.

Which technically is sexual discrimination.

But since the girls get cheap drinks and the guys get liquored up girls, nobody complains.

"Stuff like this does nothing but hurt the attempt to change the image of the gamer from the basement dwelling virgin that can't interact with people in real life."

Perhaps what would help that cause even more is if people like Dunraven and various other commenters on this site stopped getting praised for making comments calling people who play more than them said virgin dwelling basement nerds with no social skills.

Just a thought.

Or even laelgon's own statement. It's hilarious how he talks about getting rid of the "basement dwelling virgin" stereotype, then goes and says the only reason a developer would want to bring more women into their community is to give the male gamers hopes they can hook up with one of them.

Got to love it when the people who claim to be for a certain stance end up doing more harm for that stance than good.

So there's some obvious problems with gender discrimination here.
I won't even go into that because it's just ridiculous.

Beyond that, what's to keep someone from just making a fake female facebook profile to get all the goodies?

This whole idea sounds horribly horribly flawed.

"The idea is to introduce the MOBA genre not only to hardcore players who already love it, but to their friends who might be more casual, and of course to their sisters and girlfriends who may not be as hardcore."

And those chicks with their dainty hands need buffs because they might break a nail if they play too hard and I heard that is like cutting a man's artery.

This is what happens when you leave marketing to the guy who apparently has never seen a girl outside of those nudey mags.
