Whilst his words are reassuring, it's a shame that PLEX means that Eve is already on the road to P2W.

Yes, but right now you pay another player - its like hiring neigbor's son to mine for you by paying for his subscription. Once you start paying CCP, that gets both massive incentives for CCP to twist game design, and gives players reasons to distrust CCP.

Also, empirically, throwing money into eve without having the team and skill to back that up does not get you very far.

yup - who cares about item shop, PLEX is pay to win through and through. You have richy riches bankrolling entire corporations with PLEX.

Yet even with PLEX in place people still op to do illegal RMT.

People who bankroll alliances with RMT, be it PLEX or illegal, are cute. Who doesn't love blapping a supercap fleet that someone paid good cash?

@Rodj Blake : given what usually happens when a noob buys an expensive ship, I'd argue that PLEX is actually "pay to lose", not "pay to win"!

But I think asubbotin made an important point: being able to get in-game currency for real money certainly has significant effects on the game, but if you're not buying money from CCP, it AVOIDS the even more significant effects on game design that ensue from buying "power" directly from the publisher.

As a result, while there is inflation in EVE, the ratio of effort:PLEX seems quite stable. When I last played, a PLEX cost about 400m ISK. Now it's more like 500m. But I notice that Tritanium, the building block mineral for all manufacturing, now costs roughly 5 ISK compared to 4 when I last played.

Stable economy. Mine 100 million Tritanium and you can pay a month's subscription, same now as it was a year or two back.

@Chiren It is quite different though not at first glance. PLEX more redistributes wealth. One player buys a plex off another player. The actual amount of isk is not increased but actually decreases due to transaction tax.

Thus an item or monetery value does not simply spring into being via creditcard use. Additionally it is possible, theoretically, to destroy plex.

Also the plex plays an important role in combatting RMT shops. Since the addition of plex a number of (ie lots) of other MMOs have similar concepts now, there was even an article on Massively about it.

Do they have actual content update - like new null-sec space or new WH content - instead of PI mini-games, nerfs, 4 new ships, debugs disguised as yearly expansion? Are they going F2P or implementing walking in stations soon? Is there DX11 graphics implementation already? Are they going to limit force projection / jumps to turn blob warfare into strategy where people have to spread guarding fleets across whole sovereignty instead of hotdropping 100 supercaps on lonely pirate? Until at least one of these questions answered "yes" I percieve all "news" about EVE/CCP as attempt to save stagnating (sinking?) company via spamvertisement.

@Pasha it's already f2p, as you can use in game money to pay for game time through PLEX.

@Pasha Its actually yes in several of those points. With Plex its essentially F2P, the days of super/titan drive bys are coming to an end with the super nerfs and TiDi is helping to make blob warfare viable (though I think it still needs work).

As for the expansions Crucible is the best expansion since Apocryphia, maybe even better than apocryphia. Especially as the new ship types are epic.

As for walking in stations if that never happens I'll be quite happy.

So I'll guess I'll see you in EVE buddy

Massively Dynamic was founded over a year ago. Created by fellow readers of Massively we set off from Massively Mob to form our own PVP corporation. I'm happy to report that things are going well and we are looking to expand our player base. We are currently living in 0.0 and are looking for PVPers to join our ranks. Looking for players with 8 million SP and up with a basic understanding of PVP and nullsec mechanics, however, exceptions can if you are willing to profess your undying love for Sean Bean. Join our public channel "M.DYN Public" or send me a mail in game.

As much as I respect PathetiQ for trying pretty hard, The Jagged Alliance is probably one of the worst alliances in the game.

@Humbug Not at all, but I thought I'd let the people of Massively know that there are still people out there having fun.

@Calfis If I wanted to be apart of the the best alliance in EVE then i wouldn't stay in one alliance for very long. Alliances rise and fall and I mean to see this one build back up. That being said you comment is way more tasteful that some of your -A- companions.

I knew PathetiQ when Jagged and myself were under ATLAS as renters, they definitely 'brought it' a lot and I even cruised around with them on occasions but some Jagged guys are just fit really badly and while doing ok half the time the other half they tend to die and have wtf was that fit killmails.

But they earned my respect for fighting despite not that :)
Its just that they don't do terribly well most of the time.

CCP design EVE so that a player needs to use multiple accounts (subscriptions). I consider that pay-to-win and think that it massively unbalances the game. It also holds back technical development.

@b3n I only have one account and I do very well for myself as a mercenary. I won't ever buy another account, in fact.

Although that's fair in your case...but players like myself are much more inclined to alt'ing. So for me to be restricted to progress one character per account, is too deal breaking for me. If they had the 3 per account (which technically you do...but can only advance one), I may have stuck with EVE.

Design like that? I know many people playing with just one account and they get along quite well...
