April Fool's jokes streak across the MMO community

It may be the weekend, but that's never stopped pranksters in the past from pulling off truly epic April Fool's jokes. Many MMO studios, bloggers, and fan site operators are lining up to take a shot at the jester's crown today, hoping that their blatant (and entertaining) lies will at least amuse, if not trick, players.

It would be fool-hardy (har har) to try to round them all up, so suffice it to say that office clowns have been quite busy thus far. From Star Wars: The Old Republic's announcement of playable ship droids and City of Heroes' offer of ludicrous marketplace sales to Blizzard's focus on educational kids games and StarCraft 2's playable supply depots to SOE scaring visitors with Chatdy, the gags are flying fast and furious. We might be the most impressed with a deeply detailed wiki entry for a Guild Wars mission called Annihilator 2: Searing Day, during which players are sent into the past to save Gwen from the G-1000.

The A2: Searing Day mission is a continuation of the previous year's April Fool's quest and it's a blast. :D

Yeah, that's not just a wiki entry, that's an actual full blown mission.

I've always loved Anet April Fools Day, they do it right.

The SWTOR videos were pretty funny for the ship droids feature.

While Washing the ship windows in space, I half-expected the droid to lose grip and start floating away! ;)

Oh Anet has done April Fool's right. The A2 mini missions are so much fun.

What impresses me is how detailed the helicopter is at embark. Also pay attention to what Rurik, Gwen and your pre searing self say randomly. Very funny.

I think the bigger joke here is bioware adding something to the game that isn't the same cut and pasted art.

Oh wait...

So when did last year's GW April Fools quest stop being available?
Will it be gone if I wait to do it tomorrow?

Last year I seem to recall it being around for a few days at least.

You know, CoH's April Fool's list is funny; I especially like the "Bee Bark", but there is just _one_ problem...

...For the Mastermind set, I've known people that have been asking for "Clown Pets" since Day One when the Mastermind class was introduced!

FFXIV's joke came in the form of everyone's forum avatars being replaced with a random picture of Yoshi-P framed in pink.

I'm expecting Blizzard to come out and say MoP was a big April Fool in waiting too.
