Glad I'm getting to beta test it....just wish it wasn't so uninspired. This will be the first WoW expansion I won't be buying and that makes me sad.

@Dunraven I think it's a lot more inspired than Cataclysm. In TBC you went to an alien world, in Wrath you went into an undead-infested ice continent, but Cata was cobbled out of a bunch of tropes (giant tree! underwater zone! massive indiana jones reference! underground!) and it ended up feeling very disjointed.

@Dunraven Yeah - I actually want to Beta mostly so I don't feel like I have to buy it.

@slickie yeah it is an improvement on cata but Cata was a Train Wreck so basically anything is going to be an improvement. I just wish Blizzard could recapture some of that old Magic.

@Dunraven but they still have a lot of magic, I mean, you think cata was a train wreck, you think pandas are stupid, and yet you are bought the annuall pass and are beta testing now.

if that's not magic I don't know what is =P.

@slickie Yeah, Cata was weak in the end-game zones, it's strength was actually the revamped 1-60 experience, which I think was where most of their development time went. Unfortunately, for long-term players this meant very little. Even if you are leveling alts, assorted BoAs, guild buffs and the like make speeding through 1-60 without actually seeing much content super trivial.

Good for newcomers at least though. Mists, Wrath, and Burning Crusade do seem all around more cohesive for endgame stuff though.

All I know is I'll be passing on any future annual pass they offer. With the amount of capital at their disposal, getting people into the beta should never have been an issue.

@vaajtswv

Blizzard puts less money into their game for the amount they make from their players than any MMO I can recall - by a long shot. You would expect the highest grossing MMO in history - and the current leader by a country mile - to be number one with content/systems development by a relatively similar margin; Yet they are beaten by several other MMOs who make only a fraction of what they do.

I have no respect for Activizzard/Blactivision (take your pick) whatsoever, and will never buy another Blizzard product, unless/until such a time as their decisions are focused foremost on providing their paying customers with a quality experience - and secondarily by squeezing ridiculous amounts of capital out of unworthy products by abusing their once-potent brand name and the loyalty of their long-time fans. Not likely.

@NeverDeath "Blizzard puts less money into their game for the amount they make from their players than any MMO I can recall"

that's most likely true, however probably they invest more in their game than any other company

@NeverDeath

You know, I've always kinda wondered about this. For example, even with simple QoL tweaks to give Warlock's their green fire effects they've been asking for years...and yet Blizz can't even put this in the next expansion (when rumors where flying they where planning too). And you always hear the same tiring excuses that the graphics engine won't allow it (yet Blizz somehow managed to make their water effects better than TERA's) or they it becomes a "low priority" (wasn't the planned green fire change a low priority to begin with?).

But I think you hit a more relevant hypothesis that may speak to the real reasons for not doing the simple things that games with lesser budgets are getting away with. That is, they're simple too bloody tight fisted...especailly with their profits.

Which brings me to this final joke: Did you know how copper wire was invented? Someone accidently drop a 1 cent penny during a Bobby Kotick board meeting at Blizz HQ.

@Utakata To be fair, the way they have been talking about implementing warlock green fire is more than just a glyph and flipping a 'green fire' switch. They've been talking about doing it as a quest chain, which would require actual development time on their part. Who knows if that will see the light of day of course. Plus that'd probably mean they would be spending a lot of development time on putting something in special for each class, which was part of the reason they got rid of class-specifics to begin with.

Well this definitely sounds like they'll be letting in pass holders into the beta only. Wasn't there like a million of them? And even if they allow non pass holders in, I bet it'll only be like 100k or so.

Well regardless whether I get in or not for not being a pass holder, just want the blasted game out. The quicker the better.

Was kind of hoping I'd get in even though I haven't been a subscriber for a while now.

I'm one of those people that feels like its more worth my while to play Guildwars 1 (original), and work on Hall's of Monument in prep for GW2 than waste time on something like this, even if I did play WoW once upon a time.
Having said that, I am happy for those of you out there that are excited for MOP. May it's beta be everything you hoped for. Those pandas are pretty cute. (albit weird looking around the eyes, on the females at least.)

Another 100k have gone out and later tonight another 100k will go out. Which means a total of 300k beta invites in 2 days.
