I'm glad they're not letting everyone in at once. Makes sense. That said, I'm equally irritated that I did not get an invite in this first wave.

@Ranxerox

Ye - its a no win situation for BLizzard. We dont even know if those 100k ppl are more than 5% of those that have AP now. And even if they got 100K in every week .. it still means that there are 10 weeks (more than 2 months) till the 4th quarter 1 million group gets it.

Check your b.net account, I didn't get an invite email but I checked last night and the beta was there.

@Deadalon

4th Quarter? Why is everyone saying this is when it will release? Blizzard has a ton of competition coming up so they are most likely going to release this VERY SOON. I highly doubt they will be waiting to release this expansion.

@Ranxerox I think that Blizzard will launch this game mid July. Gives them two months between Diablo 3 and MoP, so they don't compete with themselves. Any later and it could be suicidal for their sub numbers.

I doubt Blizz will release this and Diablo 3 (May15) close together. Releasing two games back to back will reduce the attention that each would hope to garner individually. Plus, there is Heart of the Swarm supposedly launching sometime this year as well, but that game seems to have fallen of the radar for some reason.

My best guess for MoP is around November / December. That would put it two years out from Cata which seems like a nice, round number.

Here is what I think:
D3: May 15
HotS: September (?)
MoP: December
DotA: Jan/Feb 2013

Ditto. I'm still waiting. I did the annual pass the first week it was announced.

In the context of World of Warcraft I would hardly call 100k "opening the floodgates".

I am one of the people who really didn't like Cataclysm, and I thought I had left WoW for good, until they announced the Mists beta and the Annual Pass. I signed up for AP as soon as it was available. I am pretty certain I'll get into the beta about 2 days before MoP launches.

I hope i'm not in an early wave. At this point of the Cataclysm beta there were still path of the titan remnants and 51 point talent trees.

I want to be in the beta just before launch, to confirm whether I'm done with WoW forever, or if they've squeezed some life back into the game.

here's what i expect: nicely animated panda character models, some asian themed zones, a dumbed down skill system replacing talents, and the same 85-90 leveling process + LFD grind at the cap.

@(Unverified) Mostly you're accurate, except about the talent system (which is generally a big improvement in concept, though individual talents here and there need reworking pretty badly). The reworking of glyphs was actually the most pleasant surprise, since they were about as cookie-cutter as talents were before.

Also hard to say what cap is like, but since LFR is here to stay, yeah it'll probably be pretty similar. It worked out well for them, so would be kind of surprised if they changed that significantly. Looking like they want a few other 'casual' type things for endgame, but more or less I imagine it'll be about the same type of dungeoning-raiding.

Somehow, despite being registered since launch day, having a CE of the original and every expansion, as well as an annual pass (2 days after it was announced) - I was skipped on this round - of course 100k is a tiny fraction of what they've got. All I really want to do is play the panda opening area and try out Monk.

@Izod517 Have you been *paying* since launch day? That's apparently the only thing they take into account according to Bashiok. They don't care about your Collectors Editions or when your account started, it's the amount of time total that you have been subscribed.

@toychristopher Yes I have. I realize they don't care about my CEs - I do have the ability to read.

I'm glad to see they are rewarding loyalty this way; after all, annual pass holders are already hooked for about 6 months still; it would make more business sense to invite opt-ins that quit the game in hopes to hook them back.

For what I've seen of MOP it's just more of the same WoW that even though I loved it dearly for about 4 years I can't bring myself to play again for more than 10-15 minutes before I start falling asleep.

Looks like another batch went out around 2pm CST today.

Check your Battle.net account to be sure, as I show access there, but still have yet to receive an email about it.

And for the record, they've said it's based on subscription time and the date you signed up for the Annual Pass... so even if you bought at launch, if you took breaks and unsubscribed, you'll probably be behind people that created accounts after you yet have had more paid months.
