I am excited for the conversion. I think anything they do at this point is a plus. Though there really isn't any substantial information yet.

With the potential influx of a large population like the game hasn't seen in awhile, I hope SOE will tweak the game to highlight the option of starting in the individual racial areas, rather than the Isle of Dawn mashup. There's a lot of wonderfully entertaining lore to be found in them, all of which is missed in the default tutorial zone.

@Tatsuk

you're right with the starter zones, but the quests from isle would need to be replicated they were perfect in terms of learning curve, risk and reward.

@Tatsuk

You are always asked of you want to start on the Isle of Dawn or in your normal race starter zone. No one has removed that option.

I'll give it a shot, I've stayed away from SOE games before but I've gotten more and more curious about their infamous sandbox centric mechanics as the years go by.

EQ just isn't my thing (too pop culture, even if it did loose to WOW it's still pop in my eyes) and with SW:G shut down there isn't many other titles they have that interest me.

I'm fucking old dude.

yes, the days when EQ ruled the gaming world and major news papers covered stories about EQ players commuting suicide (over getting ganked and looted by other players who conned them into believing that they were friends) with the incompetent fervor of AD&D coverage in the 80's, is not that distant of a memory for me in the grand scheme of my gaming experience.

so yes EQ, and SOE in general, is still part of POP-ular culture by my standards.

save the "Latte before it was cool ..." comments, 'cause I was drinking Drip coffee spiked with Baileys Irish cream long before those stupid foo-foo drinks got popularized.

Should have asked about the different server types... If they plan on reinstating pvp servers would be a big deal for someone like me who is a hardcore sandbox MMO player that loves pvp.

@Vunak They've said they're taking a "wait and see" approach when it comes to new servers. It's not a stretch to assume they'll add one or more, though, if the switch garners the response they (and I) are hoping it will. Unlike EQ2 with its instancing of zones, they can't fit a basically limitless number of players onto a single server.

I am really excited about this, I left because there was zero development on the title, and it felt like a dead end. Just the fact that SOE is dedicating resources to it is enough to make me come back.

Unfortunately GW2 really has my attention, and I don't like to play multiple games at once.

This will help Vanguard tremendously this game is a rare gem and once it actually gets some love from the developers and not to mention some players I think it will blossom.....

So I haven't played this game in years and I just sort of fell out of touch with it's progression. Is it still a massive timesink? Not in a bad way but it just took an extremely long time to level up and do impressive things like build boats (time taken was what made it so impressive in that they were not easy to acquire). I loved this game but in the end the lack of development on the developers' end and monthly sub made me drop it like a bad habit.

@Machineman This has always been my favorite parts as well. Disciple, bloodmage, so unique. Even the old stand bys like ranger and necromancer were done very well. I play ranger-types in MMO's and have yet to see a game match what VG did for them imo. You can essentially decide to be a melee or ranged ranger and both are perfectly viable in DPS roles yet play differently. Dread Knights so specialized in 2 handed weapons they actually tank better with a two handed weapon opposed to sword and board. And in PvE their approach to balance was great: turn every class up to 11. Every class did their job so well you never needed a specific class of healer, DPS or tank.

I thought their necromancer, cleric, and disciple were awesome. Haven't seen bards done quite like this before or since, either. Great potential with game, but a bad launch with tons of bugs and performance problems, combined with a much slower leveling rate and a world that's not very solo-friendly, didn't get it many long term players.
