Spiders are ubiquitous. It makes sense to have them everywhere. But how many wild boars do your see running around?

Even back in the middle-ages where most fantasy MMOs sort of are set, you didn't have hundreds of thousands dangerous of wild pigs roaming the countryside. I don't understand why they are so prevalent in MMOs.

@ZTZ There were no Dog sized spiders in the Middle Ages, either, so, by that logic, I don't know why spiders are so prevalent in MMOs.

In LotRO, a boar would win every single time, hands down. Because they can stun. And stun they do. A lot. Like a mother.

Come to think of it, pretty much anything in LotRO would win against a spider. Spiders are the only mob type that cannot stun.

@Lenn

How long have you been playing LOTRO ?? Obvisouly never been in the moors and seen how to play a sider/weaver. They have a large amount of CC ..

Spider from the moors would easily account for the hog...

The mighty pig defeats the spider, and as it lays there unconscious on the ground, legs splayed, the pig, still feeling the blood rushing from the battle becomes aroused.

Months later, Spider-pig is born!

If a spider and a pig got together, wouldn't that result in a heartwarming story about love, self sacrifice, and loss?

1 word. Bacon.

Eating bacon/pork/ham is far less cringe worthy than eating spiders.

Also, ever heard of porcinaphobia? Probably not, but everyone knows of arachnophobia.

Pig wins, end of discussion.

Well Justin, as you can see from the many spider-pig references in the comments, people on the Internet do not take kindly to being pre-empted.

I really can't recall that many "Giant Pig" Bosses in MMOs, at least compared to their Spider-brethern.

WoW has pigs and Pig-Bosses, sure. I think LotRo has it's share, but it seems like a later addition than the Spider-types. I know Asian MMOs love their pigs, but can't recall too many spiders (I know they must be some there).

And really, if you take a note from Sci-Fi, you'll see more "Spider-Bats" and "Spider-Apes" and "Spider-add-another-creature-combo-here" than "Pig-Whatsis"!

@Space Cobra "I think LotRo has it's share, but it seems like a later addition than the Spider-types."

The very first signature mob you had to fight in LotRO, as a Man or Hobbit, was a pig, Old Bloodtusk. Turbine took him out when they revamped the starting area, sadly.
