@AstrisVox

EVE has a great community, ingame. It's actually the most helpful and passionate group that I've played with in any MMO that I've tried. I suggest you cut through all the hyperbole written by players here on Massively and check out the free trial, firsthand. The Rookie channel, and general Help channel, are always filled with helpful people. As with any game, simply ignore/block the trolls.

Eve was not always this way, there used to be a time when EvE was not all about griefing. When people could go to Fanfest and talk about being a "carebear" and not be mocked for it, because it was seen as a valid (even necessary) playstyle, if a somewhat quaint one. In fact several devs used to openly admit to it.
There was a time when CCP emphasized constructive things that emerged from the game like business initiatives, entrepreneurs, fun events, community projects, etc..
There was a time when the common wisdom was that your name and reputation is everything in EvE so don't squander it easily.

Now they worship "metagaming", they are proud of people hacking each other and using alts upon alts and stealing passwords and exploiting obscure mechanics to get ahead instead of doing it by playing the game.
They ignore and even encourage player harassment while nominally having rules against it.
They actively promote scamming even when the only reason it happens is their own bad design in UI or undocumented game behavior.
They spout platitudes about "the sandbox" while focusing on one single area of the game and telling you 'this is what eve's all about" and "you're playing it wrong".

EvE is no longer a game about choosing your path, it's a game about being a dick. Their new motto is literally "harden the fuck up" that should tell any prospective players what they need to know about EvE.

I made my point on what Mittens had said already, this comment is directed to all the blind haters and carebears that want thier gameplay spoonfed to them with as little actual thought as possible.

EVE IS a harsh world, EVE is NOT meant for people who are unable to make logical and tactical decisions. EVE is not for people that can't read before commiting to an action. EVE is not for people that can't accept the fact that you are just as vulnerable or dangerous as your (potential) opponent.

@Skyydragonn And quite frankly no one gives a flying crap about any of that. It's not the game anyone is taking issue with, it's the behaviour outside of the game of some of its players.

I couldnt give a stuff about whether or not some lowbie got ganked in the game and lost whatever spaceship thing that matters. I couldnt give a monkeys if Little Timmy had hours of his time wasted.
Thats the game, thats the mechanics, thats what you get for playing EVE. I wouldnt kick up a fuss about it anymore than i would kick up a fuss when i get mauled in Dark Souls, i knew what i was getting into when i bought it.

And if you actually read what people are complaining about, you would see no one particularly cares about that.

What people have a problem with, what this entire fuss is about is the players who go beyond game mechanics and take it out into the real world. I don't care what you say about the game, it will never excuse calling for a person to be harassed into suicide.

And if as a company, CCP regards this as acceptable behaviour, then they deserve any negative press that comes as a result. I know i certainly will think twice before purchasing any of their products.

You believe your own crap? Your as uneducated as that dumbass in the CSM, which is your right, but do not expect to get away with it.

I don't disagree, in fact back when I played the saying was, If you died, it was probably your fault.

Ugh, go away. If you put as much energy into anything as you put into poorly trolling every eve article, you might do something with your life.

To be honest, the 2012 panel was kinda funny. I liked the Alliance (No holds barred, I believe) that made people sing their national anthem as ransom for saving their ships or worm hole.

Yes Eve Online is this bad. I strongly recommend everyone to stay away from it. All effort you invest in the game is almost certain to pale to insigificance next to an inner crowd of OCD psychopaths who play this game 40 hours a week snorting meth, masturbating whenever they arbitrarily crush some "carebear" beneath their massively swollen scrotii, typically by using a vessel hundred times the value of their victims.

And this is great fun, seriously. And doing it dozens of times to a series of increasing exasperated victims is even moar fun.

The game is dying, people are fleeing it in droves. Could have been the mos beautiful and elegant game out there, sadly CCP "just didn't get what kind of zoo they were cultivating".

1) Show me the 'droves.'

2) points for vulgarity aside, some of the more successful/rich dudes I play with put in an average of 10 hours a week. This seems pretty reasonable to me, and I'm averaging about 6. So, wrong again! I haven't however asked them how much they masturbate or how much meth they snort, so I'll get back to you.

"-we expect public presentations to be courteous and professional towards others."

CCP is aware of the playerbase they have gone out of their way to encourage, aren't they? And they invite the leader of a bunch like GoonSwarm to talk, what the heck do they expect?

Now suddenly they're acting as if they're concerned about courtesy and professionalism because this is something that will get them into real trouble. Nice.

A lot of ppl seem to think that eve is all about scamming and griefing, thou its a part of the game it is actually only being practiced by the minority, and if you are a newb and come into the game as long as you are aware of this you will be fine. And also ppl seem to think that new player will never catch up with older players this is also not true. All the skills in eve can only be trained to 5 so once you are there. An older player will only have more trained to 5 in different areas which generaly dont make an impact.

As for how the Mittani got into the CSM is easy, hes the leader of the biggest alliance and they flat out told all their members and alts to vote for him. And the Goon alliance just happens to be all about griefing and scamming and was born from the http://www.somethingawful.com/ community.

This is a new recording from their mumble where Mittani talks about what happens and whats going on.

P.S.: "the mittani" resigned from the CSM and was banned from EVE for 30 Days

On the flip side, this guy obviously thought he was in a place where his views and behavior were respected and agreed with; that is, he thought he was in a safe place to speak as he did. Sort of like being in a clubhouse, where he can do any idiot thing and say anything you want about the guys that are not part of the club.

So kudos to the rest of the community and CCP for saying, "Uh, no, dude. That's ugly."

Time for an edit, and a new post to apologise for being a crappy journalist.

at 10/ week you are not inner crowd. Besides you haven't used words like "dude" and "lame" and "emo" and "GTFO" yet so you clearly are in the demographic of eve that is somewhat sane.

Sorry no cookie.
