Always some controversy with EVE.. either its CCP or their player base.

It's a shame that people think that things like this are common in EVE.

If I may quote the article: "GoonSwarm alliance speaker and second-time CSM chairman Alexander "The Mittani" Gianturco..."

He is basically the player representative of the EVE community, and as such probably the cream of the crop. And if the cream of the crop is an absolute scumbag, I think it's safe to safe that EVE is rife with them.

You're probably a scumbag too but being surrounded by other scumbags, you probably think you're totally normal.

@PhelimReagh Wait, elected representatives are the cream of the crop?

Mind blown.

I don't even play Eve but that is a pretty moronic thing to say. WoW is also home to tons of jackoffs but that a large part of the player base is completely normal and would never do something like this story.

His position as elected CSM or w/e doesn't mean anything about the player base a whole either, on most WoW servers I have played often the most geared, respected, well known players are complete aholes that I could see doing stuff like this.

If you truly think you can judge a majority of the player base by a story like this or the fact he was an elected CSM then you are pretty damn ignorant.

Eves biggest problem seems to be the little press it gets is always because something bad has happened. Where as most other MMOs the scam and harrasment stories usually don't see the light of day.

DAoCs community is ripe with scamming anything from false gold xfers to account being sold and then taken back (legal to sell you accounts for DAoC). Then the community which mostly lives on Vnboards laugh at the stories when people post about it happening to them. Even some of the better known and liked people on the boards are scammers and aholes and yet they are liked by most and get a free pass on crap like that.

Not to mention WoW how many times entire guild or groups get in on harassing, ninja looting, scamming.

I have experienced it all personally and more frequently than I would like but I still know that these people are the minority in MMOs and not a good example of the majority player base.

Whatever your nationality may be, you're a representative of that nationality. Whatever organization(s) you belong to, you represent that (those) organization(s). Similarly, as a leader, you represent those you lead. The Mittani could not hold a leadership position in EvE's community if his values did not reflect the values of the majority of EvE's voting player base.

Things like this ARE common in EVE. Whether the story is true or not is for a court to decide, i look at EVE's track record, this is nothing new, fraud, real world theft, abuse on a scale that the CCP devs even applaude it as a mechanic in game, Corruption on the part of CCP, still ongoing.

A person has to ask themselves, when is it too much? When does a company take responsibility and clean up the failed experiment that is EVE? The litterbox needs to be cleaned of both players and developers.

I am in no way defending this guy I'd love CCP to perma ban him and auction off his loots for charity.

That being said if people knew that the guy was gonna be like this I would doubt he would even be considered for an election to a position like he is in. Just like politicians he probably got elected from covering his true self up in a cloud of lies or blackmailed his way up. Only an ignorant fool would think the action of a few people show an accurate picture or the entire playerbase, just like every MMO just Eves scams always make headline where other games do not.

Your fourth paragraph says a lot.

The only press EvE gets is negative because of what? Oh, all the negative s**t that goes on in that game...

Make any sense to you?

'Essentially' you need to read a little more than the books you were assigned in high school English class. If what you're referring to is the FFA pvp, player-driven economy, and game mechanics that support the lore of the eve universe, then maybe you're on the right track.

Any interest in this game is quickly quashed by stories such as these. Why someone would enjoy activities described in the panel is beyond me. Let them stay in eve.

Not all of us EVE players are sociopaths and scammers. I have played for over 5 years and rarely run into asshats like this.

If they haven't got themselves into an influential place they usually find themselves the target of the community at large. You just don't hear about that because it is the normal day to day in EVE and this BS is the exception so it is news.

Mark my words... he will be banned until he makes a public apology, and still is likely to be permabanned. CCP has probably been looking for a reason to turf him since Monoclegate anyway.
