EVE Online aims to revamp PvP in its upcoming Inferno expansion. In addition to continuing the good work that started with Crucible, Inferno will revamp the wardec system, iterate on faction warfare, and introduce new ships and modules for players to smash to pieces. It sounds like the perfect PvP expansion, and today at the EVE Fanfest, CCP revealed some firm details of exactly what the wardec and faction warfare revamps will entail.
A new wardec interface will make wars easier to follow; loopholes like the wardec shield used by EVE University will be closed; and a new mercenary marketplace will be introduced. Faction warfare system ownership will be given more consequences, such as making it impossible for enemy militias to dock in the system. During the EVE Keynote speech today, CCP announced that Inferno will be hitting on May 22nd and that it will be CCP's first ever expansion preceded by a precursor patch. CCP intends to introduce new content with the patch that will prepare the way for the main expansion, but exactly what form that preparation will take has been kept a secret.

I believe the statement was that it won't allow enemy militias to dock in enemy factions stations. But colour me excited.

CCP is on a roll! Nice to see most of their efforts focused on making Eve a better game.

>Removing wardec protection from a corp explicitly intended for newbies to experience the game and learn the ropes before all the veterans absolutely murder them
Stay classy, CCP.

@nimzy Experiencing loss is part of learning the ropes in EVE. Every loss is a learning opportunity. My first PVP ship loss, and first time I was pod-killed were both with the Uni. Those wardecs were my introduction to PVP in eve. Invaluable experience.

What is "wardec shield used by EVE University"? All I remember is sitting in stations during wardecs.

@Halldorr The "dec-shield" was a feature lobbied for and specifically designed to benefit E-Uni. It's a mechanic that increases the cost of wardecs based on the number of wars a corp/alliance is already involved in. Uni alt corps then dec the Uni to ensure that any real wardecs are priced out of existence.
As a Uni grad, I have mixed feelings about it myself.

I feel bad for the folks running EVE University, the games primary educational corp for all aspects of EVE, not just PvP. The decshield employed by E-Uni was in place to prevent frivolous(sp?) small corp wardec spam with the sole intention of forcing E-Uni members to not be able to play given the corps wartime SOP. Hopefully CCP allows the Uni some leeway with this or its going to cuase them some major issues.

Read up on the Uni before dissing them. The uni promotes and encourages people to fight in their wars, the vast majority of said wars are single person corps who never actually show up.
The SOP the uni uses is to decrease the free kills given out by industrialist and miners who think that war doesn't apply to them, and thus encourage more war decs.
But no, you've got it all figured out so.

EVERYONE is a "moron" for thier first 3-6 months in EVE. they don't ahve those fancy diagrams of EVE's learning curve for nothing. I've been playing fo six months and recently lost a ship due to accepting a hostile fleet invite and being warped to the baddies. It never dawned on me to think a hostile player could send a fleet invite during wartime....I was a learning experience.
