I hate to say this, but, "of course they are planning expansions. How is this news?"

And I'll clarify:

Any good company worth their salt should already be planning ahead for future expansions and what they will offer. (But in back-stepping, I will admit some folks need to hear it that factoid.)

But, here is the troubling part: Since they already have a plan *that far ahead*, how will they adapt/grow/match their audience/trends? May they can match it, especially with the much later patches, but it seems a bit too "Activision" to me; Meaning, they are going through with a plan of their own and believe it to be successful and may not be willing to admit fault and re-examine such future patches. Really, this announcement is on-oar/the same as Activition announcing they are gearing up for the new Call of Duty franchise when they are just about to release their current CoD to the market, patting themselves on the back since they figure, beforehand, both will be successful.

Hey, maybe it is. WoW is still an MMO with the largest user base in the Western hemisphere out there. Maybe they don't need to appeal to a certain segment of their older playing population or whatnot. Maybe they will sell like "gang-busters".

Perhaps. Maybe the "fall" of the game is not quite yet ready or maybe it will just be soulless merchandise. We'll see.

WoW Raid or Die IV Dungeons of Snarky Asshats

Because Pet Battles and Scenarios are catering those hardcore asshats.

If you keep repeating "Raid or Die" in any game that has raiding it doesn't actually make it true.

Even if WoW drop to 500 k subs (which is unbeliveable atm but who knows what future will bring) it is still enough playerbase to do expansion for.

That they are already talking about number five, six, and beyond shows, to me anyway, they see plenty of story potential and how it could develop.

I hope they get the dead scar fixed and flight established in Silvermoon and Exodar by then.

They must already be discussing the Forests of Furbolg and the Wings of Gryphony. More power to people that can stand this next bs expansion. But for me blizzard has completely alienated me with the pandas.

The thing that makes me sad the most is I used to defend them at every turn with my friends. They could have added so many other things in a expansion but they aren't doing. One of which so many have been wanting and that's player housing.

@Xei The pandas have been around since Warcraft 3, so it's a bit late to complain about them only now.

I wonder if they'll just give out epic armor sets just for pre-ordering the expansion. That's the only way it could be any easier to gear up.

...Don't quote me on this, but... isn't this REALLY old news? I had heard before Cataclysm is announced (I think it was on MMO-Champion) that WoW had content planned up to level 100.

If you're complaining about Pandas, you haven't watched any of the coverage apparently. There's a whole lot to this expansion not related to Pandas.

Yah, like taking your 7 year old hunter to the new continent of Pandar....

Or running a heroic set in a brewery run by pand....

I'm sure there are lots of new quests that center around the Horde and Alli accepting the pandas...

Challenge mode dungeons with special rewards. PVE scenarios that give new life to old content. New archeology to explore. New raids, new dungeons so you never have to see a panda if you don't want to. New pet battles system for something to do between raids. New Talent system where your choices matter to your gameplay.

There is plenty not directly involving pandas if you find them so frustrating. I just don't get why you don't accept them: MMOs have had Panda men for a long time, and they've been in Warcraft Canon for over a decade.

Challenge mode dungeons have nothing to do with the Warcraft story.

PvE scenarios aren't adding to the Warcraft story.

New dungeons not on Panderia? You mean the rehashed old world dungeons? That's part of the problem.

New talents where choice mattters? There's 5 or 6 True/False talents. You cant dramatically decrease choice and increase individuality. People like you said they same thing about them closing off 2 trees till one tree had 31 points in it and cookie cutter builds got worse. This just ends what individuality there was before.

Sorry, but all you are doing is glorifying where WoW went wrong, not what will fix it. Bring the Warcraft story back, see the players return. Simple.

Pandarans aren't warcraft story? Listen, we've pushed back the Burning Legion, stopped the Scourge and killed Deathwing and the Twilight Cult. We've beaten WC3. Sorry, that train is over. We gotta move on to new story - this is new story.

They wanted a united, single continent to go to, on Azeroth. The only big one we haven't done yet is Pandaria. THe South Seas is a broken up mass - which we found didn't work in Cata. And also in Cata we resolved most of the Emerald Dream storyline. THere are a bunch of little hooks - the Arathi and Sithilus areas, for instance, but not what the Developers wanted.

As for cookie cutter builds- you know, I don't care. Cookie cutter builds aren't a problem. What is, is that currently the choices don't matter. Of 41 points in talents, if 4 are free to do with what you want, that's a lot. And It's no fun - because those 4 don't do much. The new system, while it's different, has real choices every step, and the DPS differences will likely not be so different that we can't just do what we like. Some talents might be better at some fights, but no single one is that much better that not having it hinders your gameplay.

As for PVE Challenge/Scenario/Dungeons not mattering: you're just stupid. Sorry, those matter much, much more to me. If those things suck, who cares if I'm playing the best game story ever?

No, the Panderans AREN'T part of the Warcraft story. They were created as an April Fool's Day joke and had ONE appearance in WC3 for humor. That doesn't make it important lore to the story.

New story? When did we fight Azshara? The Legion hasn't been defeated, merely setback. Yes, we defeated Neltharion, or rather watched the NPC's do so, but in one giant retcon. And no, we didn't stop the Scourge, merely placed Bolvar over them for some inane reason.

Also, Cataclysm didn't resolve the Emerald Dream storyline, a novel did that, Stormrage. Once again, part of the problem. The story isn't taking place in the game but the books and the comics (except the comics have been cancelled because Warcraft fans are leaving in droves).

And no, the new talent system does not have real choices. You cant present 2 choices across 5 or 6 talents and have true choice. Less does not equal more and you apparently think it does.

And please tell me how beating a dungeon challenge is you playing the story?

There is so much more for them to do. There is Azshara as I've already pointed out. There is the Forsaken and Sylvanas's plans to plague all of Azeroth. There is truly facing the Legion. And why should we trust that the Alliance/Horde conflict will actually be hightlighted this expansion? That was said for Cataclysm and didn't happen.

At this point Blizzard is catering to non Warcraft fans and it's showing.
