I would definitely buy a system for an exclusive game if I were excited about it.
Dust isn't even close to one of those games though, so no chance. Probably won't even play it when it comes to PC.

I purchased my PS3 the second they announced Team ICO's Last Guardian was in developement, the possibilty of that game is why I even care about game consoles still. Jokes on me now, 3 years later it now looks like it could end up as vaporware. Still though, there have been some great games I have played because of that purchase. Red Dead and Portal 2 were very nice experiences on the console.

If we actually got FF7 with updated graphics like they said they might do during the PS3 tech demo, then I'd buy a PS3.

Thing is that there really isn't alot of info on what the gameplay is going to be. So far it looks like Battlefield 3 in space. I might be disappointed if I buy a PS3 just to play Dust514 and realize that I've already played this game. Hopefully there'll be YouTube videos and streams on Twitch to help me decide.

Heh. I bought a PC system just to play the Dungeon Siege expansion, Legends of Aranna, back in the day.

The original Dungeon Siege had a Mac version, but its expanions and sequel, Dungeon Siege 2, were PC-only.

That decision to "go PC" opened up a whole world of great games playable only on PCs. I do virtually all of my gaming on PCs now -- and use my beloved Mac for everything else.

I usually decide to rebuild my machine in time for a specific release. My last system was good and lasted me about three years with only marginal graphics performance hits. Once I get to the point where I have to set graphics settings to low-medium instead of medium-high, that's when I start looking at upgrades.

I also bought my Xbox 360 for Rock Band. In fact, I still only have a half dozen games for it, and most of them are either from Harmonix or Rockstar.

No, I wouldn't. However, if I could scope up a PS3 for dirt cheap I might consider it. It's not just for DUST, I'm actually more interested in playing MGS4 and the Uncharted series but DUST would be a nice cherry on top. With that said, I would still only consider it if I could find one for half the current retail price plus the games I mentioned all in the $10-20 range. If DUST released on PC though I would certainly give it a try.

Game exclusives are the WORST thing EVER for game industry. It creates a massive divide in hardware/software compatibility. It favors short-term business survival over long-term, Which is obviously more profitable. However in the long term it cost the consumer quadruple amount of money to support such exclusivity. It's just plain wrong for the consumer to pick the tab for corporate greed and failure.

I bought a new system for the up coming mmos this year, now would I do the same for console games? Only if it had at least 7+ titles I would play to death.

As a techie/geek, I don't buy systems, I buy parts.

So, in a piecemeal way, yes. I will be building my wife (also a techie, but more on the programming side) a system with which she can play Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2.

I'll be honest. I built my very first PC SOLELY to play WoW. Yes, it's true. That was almost 8yrs ago, and no, I don't play anymore.

But for the context of this article, there's my answer!

Also, I'm rebuilding my entire PC solely for GW2, so there you go!!

May be, I think I would do that for games that I can revisit everyday like Tekken series.

And like Rhymelark, I upgraded my PC just for Guild Wars 2.

Spent $1200 on a computer, 2 monitors and another $400 for hardware controllers. The game is Flight Simulator X. I must have spent another $800 on addon aircraft, scenery, navdata and applications on that game. I've also spent $300 for a 2nd hand iPad for use as an Electronic Flight Bag but I use that thing for other stuff as well.

Am getting a brand new nzd$5000 alienware to when DMO comes out.

Snes --> MK2, Super Mario World
N64 --> Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye
Xbox360 for sooooo many games (Love my 360).

We gamers get our consoles in function of which game we like.

The Answer to the question "Would you buy a system for one game?" would be, everyone does even when not aware of it.

PS3. Heavy Rain.

Or rather, was going to, then the ISP had a "sign up for two years of broadband, get a free PS3" deal, so that was a no-brainer.

So worth it. Then once the PS3 was in the house, Dark Souls, Shadow of the Colossus/Ico, and a couple Guitar Hero series were an easy sell.

Sure. Every time I upgrade my PC its because of some particular game. First it was Oblivion, then Age of Conan, now I'm heading towards Skyrim in 3D VIsion 2 (getting even Sony HMZ-T1 for it).

As for consoles, I might buy PS3 to play Uncharted trilogy in glorious 3D. And of course Im interested in Dust 514 also
