Merges? Is that wise right before the changeover? I mean, when Lineage 2 went F2P they had to open new ones to deal with the demand. Aion's probably gonna be even bigger.

@Ghostspeaker Was thinking along the same lines, it seems rather unwise given the number of servers they have. Unless they hope to use it as a PR stunt later one by saying they are "adding" servers after going free to play.

@Ghostspeaker They will probably just rearrange the current server population, then open new ones as demand rises.

The merger timing is interesting. Also, only those on Zikel appear to be facing possible losses of their toon names that might exist on Vaziel. Apparently, this merger isn't similar to the first merger method. This toon renaming isn't being received well on Zikel chat since the prior merger was handled on a first come first served method of dealing with duplicate names thus permitting active accounts more chance to keep their well known names versus inactive toons.

In addition, I read and re-read the FAQ and announcement. IMO: I saw the reference to the plastic surgery makeover, but I didn't see anything about a faction change option, only that one faction would need to be chosen to play on Tiamat and the other faction would need to be moved when both factions are on the account on that server. Both factions could be accessed from Mar 28th to April 11 and then the owner would have to select one faction. Either the second faction moves, or the second faction toons become inaccessible.

I'm in the EU where this already free to play . I did give it a try this week but soon gave up because you cant use any of the chat channels . You can /say and whisper to people on your friends list but thats as far as it goes . It doesn't seem much point playing even a free to play mmo when your so limited with your interaction with others .

@tenfootgoatman There are obvious reasons they do that though, same with other freemium games.

MMO genre was flooded with crappy generic make-a-buck-quick sub games, now its going to be flooded with crappy generic make-a-buck-quick "F2P" games, im sure the result will be different.

I cant wait for all these companies to lose enough money that they stop producing these god-awful games.

So we can go back to people being innovators and making games like SWG, Everquest 1, anarchy online, DAOC, eve online.

@nhat

Didnt say we needed to clone those games, i meant we need some garage crew of devs for fresh original new games.
