Your Dervish is running around topless? (Or what constitutes as topless in GW1)

I wanted to immerse myself in roleplaying on SWTOR. No such luck. Most of general was a mix of homophobia and political talk. And before you say it, I don't want to turn of general chat. First of all It's the only way to get a team. Second, don't tell me that having a planet wide channel is impossible and unrealistic as though none of you ever heard of a message board, Twitter, or CB radio. Worse yet, people who try to rp are somehow ridiculed on their rp server, but WookieBewbs is free to say whatever he wants about "dem dirty Arabs." If you don't want to rp go to a regular server. Why is that hard?

Maybe there needs to be two lvls of rp servers. One for pple who like the idea of it and others who want to immerse COMPLETELY.

@dudemanjac

I rolled on Adjunta Pall (RP-PVP - West Coast) for SWTOR and have many of the same issues. The most common answer I hear is "RP with your guild mates" and that is a way to avoid the issue. But it still pisses me off that on the server where RP should be encouraged has a as many if not more knuckleheads making it harder for folks who are trying to fully in engage in RP.

There are a handful of RP servers and dozens of non-RP. The only reason for folks not interested in RP to choose that server type is basically so they have a built in group that has an easy hooked by which to be trolled.

So yeah, if they are going to bother to designate a server for RP they should police it. People who want to go there for the environment and not participate in RP is cool; but folks who roll on an RP server and actively diminish other players experiences should be politely offered a transfer. Forcibly transfer if they want to make a stink about it.

And this right here, unfortunately, is why I did not play SWG and will not be playing SWTOR. It's not going to be like the movies, or the novels. It's going to be like every other MMO, full of MMO players.

If the developer takes the opportunity to create a RP server then they should take the time to police it. If they aren't going to police then don't bother designating RP servers, let that community find it's own home. Otherwise expectations aren't met and the RP folks become embittered.

Unless it's policed by the game company, the game company itself OFFERS the roleplaying player NOTHING, as far as the server goes; all it does is say "Good luck trying to roleplay." That's all there is to the answer to this question.

If you run a game and you want as little as possible of the population-pruning activities (duping, hacking, griefing) then you must be grownup and enforce policies and rules against these things. It's just that simple. You want a roleplaying community? You'll have to remove some people who get their panties in a knot when they see other people playing a different kind of pretend than the kind they themselves are there to play. (EVERYone in an MMO is playing pretend about something, even if it's only about being a better person than the next person on account of winning some objective in a game.)
