Yep, I bit. Got a Trooper Commando to 13, and a Smuggler to 4. Here are the notes I made as I went along:
Thoughts on SWTOR so far:
- Lo res textures!
- Very conventional (tab targeting, zone layout with quest ‘hubs’, NPCs standing around in odd locations just waiting for you to come by...)
- Sets its own pace with all the dialogue stuff
- Looting pop-up too fast
- Does Star Wars schtick very well...
- ...Despite lots of cheesy Star Wars cliché too (avoid Jedi)
- More cliché – Smugglers’ ‘kid’ this and ‘kid’ that.
- Troopers’ white pants look very Buck Rogers
- Well-polished
- Crafting is fun
- Companions are fun
- Your own ship!
- No long hair for female models – maybe in the barber shop in the next patch?
- Good UI, will be better when it’s movable and resizable.
- Fun despite itself.

If I ever get the money together, I will buy it. It'll be fun for scratching my occasional Star Wars itch.

Yes I played the free weekend pass and I enjoyed it.
I would have bought it long time ago if it was without subscription.
It felt very starwars-ish and almost felt like I was playing SWG again.
Kaas City reminded me so much about Coronet.
I got a Imperial Agent to level 15 and own ship and Sith Inquisitor to level 11.
At one point I was thinking more about which answer would please my companion most instead of what I myself preferred. I skipped those worries after I noticed I could use crew skills to make companion like me more.

I made 8 female characters and I liked the Imperial Agent voice most and the Trooper least.

@Wurm I love the male Imperial Agent voice. It's sooo awesome when he switches accents to go undercover. Agent ftw!

Ahh, Kaliyo.

One of the things that irks me (a little) in this game is the way some classes get a number of companions to choose from early on, whereas the Imperial Agent is stuck with the unpleasant Kaliyo for planet after planet after planet.

As for SWTOR patch 1.2, I'm glad for it, but I do wish it targeted the leveling-up players/characters a little more and the maxxed-out players/characters a little less....

@Tom in VA

I will say I agree, but I do understand there needs to be more raiding instances currently, for variety's sake, so that needs to get put in.

There are still lots to do, almost too much IMO, but I am a slow leveler and alt and visit/go through everything. Heroics. Side missions. Finding Data Lore. All that stuff.

I don't like the stat-tools and all that, too bad they added it too soon, but it was a "given" that it would be coming.

For the nonce, it seems I am going to stick around, but I do play pretty casually (not everyday!) because my game-playing platter tends to be too full at times.

I am trying to decide if I purchase the game or not right now.
The only reason I will buy the game is the well done class stories which I really enjoyed over the weekend.
I want to know whats going to happen next to my bounty hunter and inquisitor!
So I will most likely be buying and subbing to the game.

But other than that, this game is a clone of every MMO with typical boring kill this pick up/click that quests. The quests actually ruin the immersion of the story arcs. Like my inquisitor has been told by Lord Zash my new master that I will have to kill Lord Scotia , but.....first! I must travel to a swamp and pick up three pieces of junk and bring them back to her....really? Whats next, will she need ten Jawa brains to continue the story? These pick up/kill this quests just dont fit in.

And there are some things that really bug me, even though im playing a futuristic technology game, my character is still forced to run around till lvl 25. For some reason my character just cant ride a speederbike till then. Some MMO conventions like this just dont fit into this game, like gear progression does not feel star wars to me. I was sad when a lightsabre weapon gear upgrade dropped, a Jedi/Sith should not find his lighsabre as a drop off an enemy.

I tried the free weekend, I played 3 hrs straight, then had to go do something, when I came back I realised I would rather log into a game that felt Star Wars-y, that felt like the world was alive, that didn't have a sheen of un-ambitious mediocrity, so I just logged back onto a half-broken SWGEmu server that I knew was going to be wiped in a month. That tells its own story.
