I'd like official word on the prices, if anyone has any? Apparantly they completely screwed over the conversion for $/£/€ and just made the price whatever they want, so it is cheaper to buy in USD instead of GBP if you live in the UK.

Why? :c

@Danteeeee
not sure what you mean, this has always been the case for europe, we end up paying far more for games since....well, always.

@Danteeeee

Worth bearing in mind that US prices are quoted without the 20% sales tax whilst UK prices include it,

US $60 + 20% = $72
UK £50 = $78 (current exchange rate)
£3.82 extra for UK

For a one off price that's fine for me.

Hmm...

So...basic Facebook integration with a Twitter feed? I am sure that is in their plan. Probably they want more inclusive things, like you tell Anet stuff and they put it on the front-page. Maybe a varied front page that updates fansites? "Verbal" (or rather emailed/text) communication between site managers and Anet managers?

I am kinda mixed if this will work, he does mention there are people on Facebook that don't do forums, but really, there are people who may not even go to Anet-info sites and just focus on friends and whatnot. And really, there are still subsets that won't touch any of these, I don't expect them to get personal text messages or calls from in-game friends?

It will be interesting to see what they do, but so far, the clues are not too tantalizing. They tried this with other MMOs; broaden communities and have a "board of fan-website" that would meet (STO is one example). I mean, it is *something*, but I am skeptical it will work.

Just have to wait and see.

(And where's Rubi?!?!)

Rubi is apparently Working On Stuff, according to Martin.

@Space Cobra They said, Rubi is working remotely. Until she can relocate or something, at least that is what martin said on guru.

@Space Cobra I dont think they will integrate facebook per-se. If they know anything is that they have to treat each of the communities differently and that their Facebook community tends to be aggressive... way too aggressive.

Im excited on seeing what will they do to regulate and make all the community happy and welcoming. If they manage to pull this one off they just created themselves an awesome way to pull people in.

That was my WORRY. Facebook forcing, again.
I don't use facebook, and every year it becomes harder and harder as the internet keeps shrinking access to things for people that don't use it.
It may not be a monopoly...but dang people, stop forcing this nonsense already.

I'm actually very glad to see that they'll be doing official forums. I didn't think they would be, especially since the community debate on the idea ran toward decrying the idea of all official forums ever as terrible, but I think it looks a lot more professional and involved for ANet to have their own forum-based home turf. Guru is big, but it's still comparatively out of the way, and at this point the developers post there so often that they may as well have their own forums and the ability to moderate as they see fit.

I always think it looks more professional for any "big" game to have forums. I still can't believe Sony held off so long in implementing DCUO''s forums.

And it's funny, with Guru, I prefer it the other way in regards to CoH; hanging out in the Guru forums but avoiding the main CoH ones. I tend to like "small ponds" and all that. :)

Woot for official forums, I'll be able to escape the guru mods that lock topics just because they feel like it (ie discussing what kind of ranger pets you want to see IS A NO because those pets aren't the pets in the game..ermmm)

Yeah, I browse Guru from time to time and I've seen threads get locked for the weirdest reasons.

I'm always glad to see Arenanet double down on the communal aspects of their game, because without a thriving community, your not going to get very far as an MMO.

Unfortunately so many MMO's nowadays don't seem to care or realize this fact, and just plow on ahead with copy WoW 20 million+.
Game mechanics alone won't make your game good, a strong community will.

Arenanet as always, has the right idea here.

Official forums?
But we already have a cesspit of intertwined whining and fanboyism, it's called Guru.
I don't see why we really need another.

Guru mods being relevant people deciding what is relevant discussion? a lot of the time they have it wrong...that seems more than enough reason to have official forums.
