I don't know why. Sandboxes are amazing, but they are still sandboxes. Player generated content as the sole source of content will never fly and its why sandboxes are not the mainstream go to design preference.

On top of this, its being done by an indie company.

@(Unverified) It will never fly to the point of having millions of subscribers BUT it will fly enough to have a sustainable game with a strong community. Sandboxes tend to have less little kids running around in them.

@Repopulation
Very true. And THAT is worth it alone!

Repopulation seems to also be making a push for pve content too. Their site has some interesting ideas about how to handle pve in sandboxes, developed by the devs not by the players. There is also further information in their forums about pve.
One never knows the future. I was looking forward to FFXIV because I enjoyed FF as a kid and I thought the Sandbox-like way they were tackling their classes sounded interesting. But... I was wrong. So here is to hoping!

@Skyewauker

It might also have to do with how empty GDC was this year. Some neat ideas, but nothing that really popped.

I really wasn't too impressed with the GDC coverage this year. Nothing really peaked my interest. Otherland did sound interesting though.

I guess I am just not too excited about 99% of the games being released "soon". GW2, ArcheAge, and Diablo 3 are the only games on my radar at the moment. I am in the Salem Online alpha so that is also something that is pretty interesting.

Planetside 2 footage was more than we've ever seen and pretty spectacular especially considering it was only a tiny fraction of the anticipated scale and still in alpha. I can't wait!

Planetside 2's gameplay footage by a long shot.

As far as Funcom's hush hush on The Secret World,a game which is releasing in 3 month's, quite frankly it is starting to turn me off of the game.I saw the leaked footage and although it was interesting wasn't worthy of this false hype generation secrecy especially when the launch is not far off.
