Yeah I would have to agree. Dont get me wrong I love battletech.mechwarrior but the pace of combat/gameplay shown in that trailer looks pretty slow when compared to Hawken.

still there were a few glimmers of hope

The one LRM salvo from A LOOONG way off looked interesting. I also liked the speed bonus of the jenner. (basically running rings around the hunchback)

The biggest problem with Hawken (other than multi-ton mechs that flit around like dragonflies) is the utter lack of any sense of scale. It also looks console, arcadish, and japanime to me -- all instant turn offs.

Hawkens more of an arcade game anyway...

MWO will be a mech simulation in every sense of the word "simulation".

@Maximum Proxy Two different types of games. Mechwarrior typically plays more like a TF2 then a COD, there's more to playing then simply aim at their head and shoot before they do (ala Cod or Hawken), since people take more then one bullet, it takes a lot more technical skill and strategy to be good, like Team Fortress 2 . Hawken looks like a better shooter, but I'm not sure I'm going to like run and gun gameplay to represent mech's, especially when Hawken seems so slow and awkward compared to games like AC that have already done fast mobile mechs. Comments like this make me hope that Hawken releases the same time as Mechwarrior, so that everybody wanting "call of duty with mechs" will leave themselves and their opinion out of Mechwarrior.

@Vegetta Mech combat is not supposed to be fast paced. They are giant f***ing mechs.

"like TF2" I dont know what TF2 servers you play on but there are way too many insta-kill weapons in TF2 to even remotely call it "skill based" as your statements would try to indicate. that being said I unfortunately see far too much "circle strafing" in this footage to interest me in the long term. Though being a huge fan of mechs in general and a passing fan of the mechwarrior series I may have to give it an honest go when its closer to release or beta testing stages.

Hawken is just generic japnime robot nonsense. Honestly, people who like Hawken aren't going to like MWO. People who like WoT will like MWO.

Sim versus arcade.

Really you think That I did not know that. I cut my teeth playing battletech on the tabletop so I know all about slow pace.

Quite honestly the slow pace is going to be a turn off for a lot of players that are used to more hyper FPS style combat. ( Hawken seems to have that down pretty well)

Personally for me the slower pace is fine - makes twitch much less of an issue.

most people are comparing hawken to MWO. But there just 2 mech games, and there the similarity stops. I think Hawken is more a high octane shooter, while MWO is more a strategist game.

And i think im gonna have a slice of both those pies. You lot just keep bickering about which one is best :P

@Maximum Proxy I agree.

Mechwarrior looks great for nostalgia, but the action in Hawken just blows it out of the water... it's a bit like Armored Core, but truly next-gen and really really good.

Such a shame it's set at the start of the Clan Invasion (ie, when it turned from BattleTech into MechWarrior, mangling the board game for the sake of their new RPG).

Don't know why people downvoted this...I agree. There's centuries of awesome Inner Sphere-only action they could have worked with. But I guess it's not surprising that they went with the clans. The Fanbois want their MadCats.

@ScottishViking "Don't know why people downvoted this.."

Because double heat sinks are the bestest thing in the whole wide universe and anyone who dares think that those and the other Clan tech additions turned BattleTech into a horribly unbalanced mess are The Enemy, of course. :P

I mean, I didn't completely hate 3050. I was a huge fan of the Wolf's Dragoons story so when those connections were realized, I was pretty captivated. And even the early days of the Clan invasion were pretty neat (the early Jade Falcon stories were pretty good, for example). But it did mean that everything tilted heavily in favor of new tech, and it just felt like a whole new game on the tabletop. I imagine there will be a similar development in the MMO when the clan expansions are inevitably released. I do remember longing for the simpler days of House and mercenary warfare.

You guys aren't the only ones.

3050 and Clan Tech basically killed Battletech.

I'm also not a fan of the precision shooting in the MMO version, I'd rather see expanding reticles to help simulate that rand factor.

I hope they actually have that bad-ass music in the game itself.
