@Irem
Of course there will be. I am talking specifically at release, not a few weeks down the road.

what the hell is up with these damn statues in CEs? I just want the in-game stuff, not a dust collector.

@Joaquin Crowe

If all you want is the ingame items then get the Digital Deluxe. That one gets all of the ingame benefits; "all" the collector's edition adds is stuff like the figure, a making of book, art prints, a frame, and a soundtrack.

Gah. I want to get that collector's edition so much, but I don't know if I can justify spending that much right now.

The things I would want to see clarified:

- How good is the Hero's Band compared with gear available in the game? When can we expect to substitute it? Is it just one copy for the whole account, or do every character gets it (similar to how GW1 handles such promotional items)?
- Is the Summon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill available through other means (even if as a same mechanics, but graphically different skill)? How does it compare with other elite skills in the game?
- Are the other items one use only?

While I'm interested in pre-ordering the game, and even getting the DD, giving a permanent gameplay advantage (as in, still an advantage even at high levels) to pre-orders or expensive editions would sharply reduce my interest in the game.

It's more of a theoretical issue, though. I don't think ANet will fall to this specific trap. I like to cover all my bases, though.

Considering it's only got +2s around the board I can't see it lasting very long at all, especially if you pick up a craft that makes rings or you decide to buy crafted items from other players.

No idea about the rest. The elite skill sounds similar to elite racial abilities that can be earned ingame (such as humans being able to summon flaming wolves and the Char's ability to call a warband to their aid). So it's not unique in the fact that there are other summoning abilities in the game, but I'd imagine this particular summoned pet uses different skills once summoned (considering that this is a single summoned entity vs the other two which summon multiples).

@DarkWalker I personally don't fine the DDE worth it. To answer your questions:

1) The Hero's Band is likely a accessory which will last you for about 20-30 levels before being replaced, kind of like the bonus items from GW1. If what I read is correct, it's bound to your account, just like GW1, therefore making new toons will instantly obtain you this item.
2) From what I read on Reddit, this Elite Skill 'may' be a cosmetic variation of another Elite Skill which does the same thing, MistFire Wolf will likely look more awesome.
3) The Chalice, Tome, and Golem Banker are one time use, except the Bank which last for 5 days.
4) The mini pet will likely bound to your account, kind of like what WoW does with their CE pets.

The advantage is permanent, but from what I read is very insignificant. Chalice of Glory seems to be a temporary buff which increase the amount of Glory you obtain, bet you can be bought from cash shop. Tome of Influence is also a one time use(benefits the guild) which can likely be bought through cash shop. Golem Banker only last 5 days, I don't see it being any advantage whatsoever. The only unconfirmed thing is the Elite Skill, but Reddit are claiming it's a cosmetic variation of a existing Elite Skill.

So personally I don't find the DDE to give you any major advantage, they may be permanent, but all about one time use which can likely be bought through cash shop.

I don't think the Chalice and Tome will be cash shop items. They have said they don't want the cash shop to be something where you can "pay to win" and these can be seen as pay to win items. They only want to do cosmetic/vanity stuff like the original GW.

The only way I see these being in the cash shop is if they are easily obtainable in the game the way skill packs were in the original game.

I'm pretty sure they're an example of what we can expect to see in the cash shop, especially after the recent kerfluffle over the wording change. They did say though that the same stuff would be available in the game through the investment of time, so I imagine it'll be stuff bought with karma and whatnot. It doesn't make me happy, but it was inevitable; the thing that makes me least happy is the golem being a limited use item, because that's probably going to be in the shop, too, and I'll be VERY disappointed if the GW2 cash shop is full of rental crap. You might as well just charge a goddamn sub if you're going to snap your fingers for a payout on a set schedule.

Well, if that's the case looks like ArenaNet may be losing my business if they are going to sell points and stuff in the cash shop. But I will withhold judgement until ANet says for sure.

I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but on this minor level I wouldn't refuse to buy the game over it. I would never pay for something like that, though, and I personally think anyone who does is proving the bit about a fool and their money. If ArenaNet wants me to buy anything from the cash shop they can create things worth buying that I actually get to keep, not shortcuts and rental crap.

Well, ArenaNet has said constantly they will be running the cash shop like they did with GW, just cosmetic and vanity stuff (and storage type things). They haven't lied to this point, so I will trust their previous comments. But I will NEVER play a game where gameplay isn't the thing that drives improvement in the game and where people can buy things like honor points or gear or that type of thing.

Now the Golem Banker I can definately see being a cash shop item.

If I had to guess the golem in the DD and CE versions are probably just like a "taste" whereas if the golem banker is offered in the shop it could be a month thing or even a permanent one.

If the band is going to last less than half the leveling part of the game, and if the skill is mostly a reskin of other existing skills, then I don't see anything wrong with them. Having the DD/CE, or pre-ordering, might make part of the leveling journey somewhat easier, and might make a high level character flashier, but shouldn't actually increase the power of high level characters.

As for the rest: while I don't particularly care for them, what leaves me puzzled is that I don't really see a good reason to restrict free store samples to players with the more expensive DD/CE; free samples should actually be more useful, for ANet at least, in convincing players with the cheaper game to spend money in the shop, as it seems to me those that have already paid extra money on fluff are naturally more inclined to spend on the cash shop. Might be why LotRO has gift packages for every new character, and a few months ago started to give monthly free samples of consumable store items even to free players :)

I believe it would be better for ANet to offer the free samples to everyone - since free samples can actually get players to make purchases - and give DD/CE owners, instead, mostly permanent, cosmetic things.

Also, I sure hope the Chalice and Tome increase the rate of Glory/Influence acquisition, instead of being just a one-time pay off.

I'm not sure I agree. To me these look more like rare drops or expensive in-game item buffs, similar to GW1's Scrolls or other consumables, like Grail of Might, Essence of Celerity, and Armor of Salvation. None of these were sold in the GW1 shop.

I bet we'll see games will cost $99.95 for standard digital download in this decade. BTW pre-release SWTOR cost (with early access included) was $30 via Origin.
