Things are just getting more and more exciting for Guild Wars 2 fans. Since ArenaNet's blog post confirming a 2012 launch, things seem to be warming up: We've had a press beta, an intensely busy beta signup period, the promise of another late March beta, and now an announcement about Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase. NCsoft sent out a press release today with some juicy details regarding the game's Collector's Edition and the benefits of purchasing early.
From April 10th onward, pre-purchasers of any of the editions (Collector's, Digital Deluxe, or Standard) will be guaranteed access into beta weekend events and a three-day head start for launch, which is awesome if you want to reserve a cool name so you're not stuck with being xLegolasXx. An additional benefit to any pre-purchase is the somewhat mysterious Hero's Band, which will apparently give characters a variety of power boosts to speed them on their way.
The Collector's Edition is going to cost you $149.99, but ArenaNet certainly seems to be providing bang for your buck: a 10-inch statue of the iconic Rytlock Brimstone and his sword Sohothin, a custom frame with five Guild Wars 2 art prints, a book on the making of Guild Wars 2, a soundtrack CD, and five in-game items (including a mini Rytlock), all of which should make this a pretty tempting order for super fans of the game. The Digital Deluxe pre-purchase is only going to run you $79.99, and the Standard Edition will be $59.99 -- again, any three of those will secure you the Hero's Band, a place in beta events, and a three-day head start. Pre-ordering Guild Wars 2 from select retailers will reserve you a copy of the game at launch and entitle you to a one-day head start.

Gah. Nice to see we've got minumum specs (will help for having a guideline when upgrading my girlfriend's crappy PC), but some recommended specs would be nice as well. I've got a feeling that I won't be able to max the game out, and knowing if I'll need a new video card or not would help me judge if I could afford to splurge on the collector's edition or not. Given the choice between the collector's edition and being able to enjoy the game in all of its graphical glory, I'm going to go with the standard edition just to be safe.

Those are some surprisingly low system requirements... wow... i would not have expected that ^^
good to know that i won't have to upgrade my system this year :D
Juicy prices for the game... then again, no sub fee so i guess that's all in order.

This is something that surprised me about the original. Part of their design doctrine is to build for the average system *at the time development starts*. Guild Wars 1 was made with dialup connections and 800 MHz processors in mind, for example.

Expensive CE, but considering no sub fee, I think I will get it just to support the devs. They delivered with GW and I believe they will with GW2.
And nice to see low system requirements, but not that surprising. GW had very low system requirements and ran smooth.

Another $150 Collector's Edition? Ugh. Is it too much to ask for a box that DOESN'T come with a figurine these days? Maybe a mini-CE, or a not-as-collectible edition, or whatever?
I'd love to get my hands on those prints and the book, but I'm not paying an extra $50 for what amounts to a glorified paper weight.
(I'm not saying stop making them, as some people do like them, but something in between the DD and CE would be nice...)

@Jokkl
The digital deluxe being "between the DD and CE" seems kind of impossible. ;)
It's nice for those that want the in-game stuff. Not so much for people who want the other things that come with the CE but don't want the giant plastic Charr that's jacking up the price by $50-70.

YES, this is exactly what I was thinking!! Rytlock is cool and all, but I really dont need a prohibitively expensive statue that would just sit ignored in some dark corner of my room.
I would happily pay $80 or maybe even $90 for a physical CE with everything BUT the pointless statue; I love the art and music of this game so the other parts of the CE really appeal to me.
Just not the paperweight.

Think of it this way. Unlike SWTOR, there is no sub fee.

@Lethality Yup, those statues alone run about $90+ which really jacks the price up. Would be nice to have a boxed version without he statue but no real biggie. Would be happier if it was a Sylvari I'm Charr'd out and we have yet to see anything based off the new race. ;-p

Unlike SWTOR, the Digital Deluxe edition comes with everything from the CE that is not a physical object; inside the game itself, the DD should have everything the CE have, whereas TOR has a couple extra digital items only available in the CE.
This actually makes me very happy. While I would love to get my hands on a CE, between shipping and taxes, it's price here in Brazil will most likely double. I would consider the CE for $150, but for the roughly $300 it's bound to cost to get one to here in Brazil, no chance. With the DD being as good as the CE when it comes to the game itself, I can get it and not feel like I'm missing something.
I do agree, though, that there should be a cheaper CE version without the 10-inch figurine.

Yeah, I'd rather have a Logan Thackeray and a little surprised it's not. With him being Gwen's descendant and how Gwen always has been the "poster girl" so to speak for GW.
