The hype around Planetside 2 is authentic due to the fact that John Smedley really loves the original game. I would assume he wants to cut no corners in development. He admitted out of all the SoE titles the only game he really played was PS. Lucky for us because we get a awesome looking sequel.

@Darkmoone I would trust CCP long before I trust Smed.

The main reason I'm more excited about Planetside 2 than DUST is the scale of the actual battles will be quite different. While DUST "connects" to the massive EVE world, the actual battles in Planetside will be massive themselves. When you measure 660v660v660 against 16v16, the difference is pretty substantial.
They both look to be good games, but I've been playing 16v16 shooters since CounterStrike. I've never played a 660v660v660 battle.

@Raymac On the other hand, the *complete* scale of DUST will be much larger seeing as every battle takes place in a world populated and fought over by hundreds of thousands of people. Smaller battles, bigger wars. Of course, appreciating that means the theoretical gamer has to appreciate more than just the FPS aspect.

For those interested in Defiance: they signed several big actors yesterday for the show. (http://www.deadline.com/2012/03/julie-benz-gets-female-lead-in-syfy-series-defiance-pilot-rewind-casts-first-actor/)

FYI: Defiance the show (SyFy) and Defiance the game (Trion Worlds) take place in the same world but entirely different cities. The game can survive without the show and vice-versa.
