@AlienFanatic

Players dont care who gets the majority of the money and how it's split anymore than a movie fan cares that the lead actor isn't getting paid as much as the supporting actor.

Never understand why people make up silly things to argue about. The IMPORTANT thing is that ToR is doing much better than all the haters have wanted it to and now it's down to finding small arguments.

The Big Bang Theory had it right. In case you missed it last night, they had an episode where someone had to decide to spend time with people or to go play SWTOR. I'd say that's a recognition that the game is pretty darn big and doing nicely.

It isn't really doing "much" better than most people expected. It also falls short of what EA wants in terms of subs as well. Also, you have to take what people say with a grain of salt in regards to non-financial reporting statements.

"Oh yeah (insert generic game name here) is doing AWESOME. We have x amount of active players and the VAST majority of players are paying"

That tells you just about jack shit in terms of actual and real information.

Well, I'd agree that SOME people don't care, but I do. I'm actually very anti-Lucas, myself, and I hate to see him get even richer on a property I've felt has been horribly squandered over the years. In this case, Bioware is to be respected for doing things with the Star Wars universe that are better than virtually anything Lucas did with the prequels.

What's irritating, to me at least, is that Lucas is the one likely deriving the most benefit from the work. Hey, Bioware and EA gladly acquired the license, which I'm sure they did with their eyes wide open, but it will take longer to see the fruits of their labor with the Lucas Monkey on their back.

And sorry, I don't watch sitcoms. I find canned laugh tracks and recycled material irksome.

I wouldn't say it falls short of what EA was expecting. Remember, there are articles, even on Massively, if you search, that stated prior to launch, EA would have been happy with just 500K subs and the fact they've beaten that seems they are "getting drunk on their success" at under-forecasting it for the time being. Even 750K would have been a "win" for them, but the extra players are just "icing on their cake".

It's true, you have to look beyond the sales pitch and this is EA being "happy". I think their conservative estimate at the start has done them alright and they are making a profit atm.

"Never understand why people make up silly things to argue about. The IMPORTANT thing is that RIFT is doing much better than all the haters have wanted it to (including real65rcncom) and now it's down to finding small arguments."

Fixed it for you. You preach a live and let live motto for SWTOR yet you go to many RIFT articles to troll it. Still atleast you don't seem to be a raving GW2 fanboy spreading the cliche of "wait till GW2 comes out then [game X] will die/suffer because GW2 is going to be everything to everyone!".

@real65rcncom I'm not sure product placement counts as a cultural indicator of a 2-3 month old game. You realize that companies pay for that in tv shows and movies, right? The studios don't just put Coke cans out in the open, or mention Mentos in the script out of the goodness of their hearts.

@Joaquin Crowe
Well product placement only seems to count when it's YOUR game that's placed, amirite or amirite?

Remember all the Rift nerds that went gaga because a poster that said "Rift" was featured on The Big Bang (same show) for 10 seconds in a background shot?

Don't remember? Here let me link it for you:

@Dunraven There is no hate machine. There are just mmo players with good taste and other players like you. Enjoy your game.

FYI, the exodus won't start until 6 months after launch. Just a couple of weeks ago a Bioware dev stated the majority of players aren't even at level 50 yet. The endgame of TOR is hands down the weakest part of the whole mess. That's why Bioware is rushing this legacy/reroll system out as soon as possible. It's kinda funny to see a new mmo focus heavily on the reroll experience just a couple months after launch.

@Mtor lol the saddest part of it all is you actually believe what you are saying. Even the Doctors said that there was a group that was invested in seeing TOR fail; read some of the moderators blogs they laugh about the Astroturfers on a almost daily basis.

The thing is despite all that TOR is a huge success and when it is still successful six months from now people like you will whine:

Just you wait by next year the game will be a ghost town!!!!111

Hey look at that. You CAN make a Star Wars MMO that doesn't have needlessly complicated crafting mechanics and silly player shops. In fact, it's even more popular without having all that pointless junk.

Bioware has always had a far better grasp of Star Wars and what made it memorable than Sony (and all of the whining SWG fans) EVER did. Good to see the number proving it. This just cements SWG's place in history as a clueless game that completely missed the mark on the Star Wars IP.

I'm glad TOR is doing well, despite the fact that I left the game, because I felt the endgame... lacking. It would be interesting to see statistics about how many characters do people have, and how many people have level 50 toons. Seeing how many of my friends who left (or are planning to leave) are doing so out of boredom at end level I wouldn't be surprised if this would show in statistics...
Anyway, I wish for the best for TOR, maybe I'll return to it later, when they fix it up :)

The press release does not mention TOR even once. The TOR numbers come from EA's CEO speaking at a conference yesterday (March 8):
