Nothing brings on the hate faster than "bring on the hate" comments.
Nice job.

Thank you. That's something that really needed to be pointed out.

@Repopulation

Well...just ignore them. And don't feed them. They don't have 1.7 mil people playing and liking their game. /shrug

These articles always have more comments about phantom "haters" than they do posts being critical of the game.

Sounds about right. I think most of those who were just testing it out have moved on by now. Pretty much everyone I talk to in game is planning on staying for the long hauI. Hence, I can't see these numbers going down anytime soon, especially with everything 1.2 is bringing to the game.

Hardly, me my gf and a couple of friends we brought to swotr with us still have running subscriptions even tho we uninstalled a while ago.

Most people simply forget to Cancel as they quit and get charged an extra month or two. People who just stop playing proggressively due to boredom or loss of interest don't hurry to the Cancel sub button like Ragequitters do.

So yeah, let's talk subscription in may.

Better yet, this summer, at the 6 month mark, as it should be.

So remind me where we are at on the "going to fail" timeframes now?

"This thing will fail as soon as the NDA is lifted"
"This is going to fail when Beta Access opens up"
"This will fail at early access"
"This will fail at launch"
"This will fail at 30 days"
"This will fail at 90 days"

The only fail I see is with the haters.

I actually haven't seen any hateful comments yet except towards "haters"
(for the slow - this makes you a hater)

Hey, did you see that STWOR was a part of the episode last night on The Big Bang Theory television comedy?

I laughed when I realized you probably had some ToR hating nerds who watches that show and then see that ToR was chosen as the mmo to be featured on the show despite all the other mmos out there on the market.

tbh most I have seen repeated was

1) wait for the 3-month and 6-month subbers expiring
2) GW2 release

which both are still to come, so....lets wait to uncork the champagne, shall we?

Very well then allow me to add my opinion as a potential counter argument.

The long term viability of any MMO is with it's ability to keep people interested (and giving money in some way be it subscription or cash store). Because TOR is a themepark MMO much of it's interest is tied to developer created content (quests, raids, environments etc.). However because Bioware went all out, TOR has very expensive content (a lot of voice acting, scripting, fairly detailed graphic assets and what not), thus it might be tricky for Bioware to produce content at a rapid enough rate to keep people interested. It's no secret that people don't like having to wait a long time for new content (just ask any WoW player how they feel about the barren gap between Cata and MoP).
So thus using that as a basis TOR will only start ' failing' (or succeeding) the moment the majority of the player base is sitting at max level awaiting new content. If Bioware can continue to turn out content it's a fair assessment to say TOR can continue for some time (I don't know much about the player base but it's a pretty save bet that even with newer shiner games on the way a dedicated few will remain). However if long delays exists between content releases or the content is of lower quality (relatively speaking) then even the dedicated few might start looking elsewhere.

SWTOR on big bang.

That's cool, but they've had Age of Conan on the show, too. Sorta a semi "dangers of addiction"/Girls-play-MMOs-and-kick-butt sorta episode.

Correction: "...the moment the majority of the player base is sitting at max level on all eight of their characters awaiting new content."

Let's be honest here, if you aren't alting in TOR, you're doing it wrong.

All eight classes have excellent story lines and BW has created great incentives to encourage people to play through all of them with the Legacy system. Plus, with all the bonus series quests, PvP and space missions, you can pretty much pick and choose how you fill in your leveling. Didn't like Balmorra? Just do the story line quest there and move on. Make up the XP somewhere else. I've leveled my Sniper almost exclusively on class story quests and space missions, only grabbing a handful of side quests along the way.

You are correct in your assessment that single character oriented players will leave once they've completed most of the content. But most of them have already left. And that reality applies to every MMO out there. These are the same folks who left WoW because it couldn't keep up with their demands. No one can really please this group. Trust me. Our guild has played together since the early days of EQ. We have formed up in numerous MMOs over the years. It's the same group every time that quits and moves on to something else once they burn through the content.

But I see a true potential for longevity in TOR. It's not going to be for everyone, though. If you're not a Star Wars fan, or if an involved story line isn't your thing, or if alts aren't you thing, well, you're probably not gonna like TOR.

@Malagarr I personally have one max level with my highest second alt sitting at level 16. I don't plan on quitting at all, I just am taking it slow. Doing dailies every once in a while, finishing my weekly and daily pvp/ops quests to gear up, and doing ops twice a week.

I just spend the rest of my time on other games, which lets me enjoy SW even more when I do log on.

Good. They should be called out, since they're obviously failing at driving people away from the game.

You can't act like a total douchebag on these threads, and then call foul when someone chuckles at your assinine predictions.

Both mine & my sons 6mth sub expires in a few months, but it doesn't mean that we will never go back to swtor. I just re-subbed with wow after taking a yr off via scroll program. New server, fresh start & feels like a new game again with all the changes that occurred in 1 yrs time. However, Doesn't mean ill stay in wow once the new feel goes away again :D
