Does anyone know of a place that has a sale on the game now? I'm interested in trying it out, but really don't want to throw down $20 on a game that is still basically a beta.
Is there a free trail or a refer a friend promo?

@valdi313 Really? You don't want to spend $20 on this game?
You do know that you'd get more then your moneys worth right?

Just wait until 2.0 arrives however, I don't know if there's a point to trying it when it's going to drastically change in a year.

@hami83 Agreed, wait until 2.0 by that time FFXIV will be at the state it should have been on release. I for one look forward to all the changes and the team seems capable enough to pull off that huge list for 2.0.

These patch notes are fantastic. Some great replayability added to the existing content, fun new abilities, much-needed changes to casting and crowd control...I can't wait!

This game has not been "basically in beta" for quite a long time. It has more content and things to do than most games, and absolutely nothing is broken/unworking about it.

Also, I love Yoshi-P's whole gaming philosophy. He's exactly the director this game needed. I'm only sad he didn't direct the game initially.

" and absolutely nothing is broken/unworking about it."
I'm just going to play devil's advocate here. If this statement was true, why patch the game at all? This is an MMO, and something is always broken, no matter the game.
"This game has not been "basically in beta" for quite a long time."
Sir, I was around in the open beta and I played around on a friend's account at launch. It was in a "beta-type" status for quite a while. I do not know the current state of the game, but be realistic about the game's start.

@valdi313 The game was launched 1.5 years ago, "long time" doesn't necessarily mean back in launch.

yea too bad people are going to be stuck in the past and talk about just that. SE is serious about improving on the game and it shows it. Hopefully it will be even better as time goes on.

Anyone know if there are plans to allow previous subscribers to play for free for a bit when 2.0 launches (even a couple of weeks, etc)? I'll give it another shot, but paying to do so after so many changes doesn't exactly excite me.

@Softserve

I believe they did state that they'd have either a free trial or a "win-back" campaign (or both?) for 2.0

@Softserve I believe that after 2.0 launches anyone that played the game pre-2.0 will have an extra 30-day free trial.

@Softserve

If you played on PC, there is a 3 month F2P period to experience all the pre-2.0 content (minus patch-to-patch content) as much as possible.

If you're looking to sub for the PS3, thats a different story.

The patch is Today, not tomorrow.

The JP notes say March 9th which in japan that is today.

But I guess the more people that think tomorrow is the patch the better, less stress on the patch client.

Worthless questions. Can you explain how the soul crystal slot works even though there are like 3 write ups on it already? Hurrr.

@Coldbrand

Soul Crystals are the key items that allow you to take on the "JOB" roles. such as Paladin, Warrior, White mage , Dragoon ect ect. It's like an advanced class system.

In order to obtain a certain Soul Crystal you have to level a combination of classes. i.e. to become a Paladin you need to level Gladiator to 30 and Conjurer to 15.

When you equip a Paladins Soul Crystal you focus your play style to a more "tank" type role. You are restricted to the amount and type of skills you can borrow from other classes, but you unlock "Paladin Only" skills to make up for it.
In the case of Paladin you are given all the Gladiator skills and 5 Pld only skills. However you are only allowed to borrow from Marauder and Conjurer Skill sets (a combo of 5 skills of your choice)

Your "JOB" level (paladin) is based off the "main class" level. again in the case of Pld it is Gladiator. So if you are lv 45 Gladiator and you equip a pld soul crystal you'll be 45 Pld. any exp gained as Pld will be attributed to your Gladiator level. So if you are playing Pld and level from 45 -> 46 and un equip the soul cyrstal you'll be 46 Gladiator, re-equip it you'll be 46 Pld.

Combat needs to be faster still.
Need 2 Handed swords.
Get rid of all the pointless guildleve (crafting is fine, but not the kill X mobs)
The camps don't make much sense, there all the same, no one to talk to really. Why aren't there villages with people in the same, a cabin in the woods, it just seems really fake.

Great job asking questions that have answers already. Next time type your question the look up the answer then post it. When you waste Yolshi-P' time with pointless idiotic questions you're keeping him from doing work on the game.

WTF is wrong with the people that write on gaming blogs? Do none of you have any sense?

@Monkey D Luffy You do not understand how press works. Massively (and any other news outlet) has to submit questions to SE's people and they will approve or deny the questions to be asked. That's why you never see SE being asked uncomfortable questions like "WHAT THE F HAS BEEN GOING ON OVER HERE THE PAST FIVE YEARS?!?" because they would never agree to put themselves up to that level of scrutiny. That's why everything is fluff.

Also, maybe this article is directed at people who are somewhat interested in the ongoing state of the game but not interested enough to go out of their way to seek information?
