It's funny. I think there is one place in town I can still pick up Beta tapes. I also think you can still order them online if you google.

As for Beta machines, they do show up in the darndest places nowadays. I also know a shop that can probably fix them if they are not operating at peak efficiency. I've stumbled into them at garage sales, pawn shops, and of course, online and other places.

It's also funny when you consider, what I feel, was the real reason Beta didn't fare well against VHS: Length of tape. They did come out with longer hours, but still shorter than the an 8 hour VHS (although, that would not be a quality recording, even for Beta). Now we have DvD and Blu-Rays that are not too simple to record on for the "average consumer". Further, we are going into straight digital that one can store on Hard Drives, but also can be tricky to play back on machines (not talking about PC equipment). Times have changed.
