Did you read the article?

"Scroll of Resurrection will also supply its target with a free upgrade to Cataclysm, seven days of free game time, and free realm and faction transfers so that returning players can join their friend right away"

A free realm transfer IS a free server tranfer.

A free 80 is fairly meaningless these days, but a free copy of Cataclysm (which still retails for $40) is not. I can almost understand the free expac, but I'm still a bit amazed why Blizzard is willing to cannibalize D3 launch sales for the sake of WoW... unless they think they're going to make it up in D3's RMT Auction House.

Either way, Blizzard's moves do seem increasingly desperate, despite the fact they are still on top in sub numbers. It is honestly hard to say why, even if TOR is sitting at around 2 million. It almost seems that they are jumping the gun to save a game that doesn't yet need saving.

Eventually WoW will see a dramatic sub drop even worse than what happened over the past year. Maybe Blizzard is trying to delay it long enough for them to be able to start hyping Titan. The market IS unpredictable, after all.

The sub drop is closer than we think. Just think 6 months forward with nothing new in Cata. And MOP will defently not be out by then. I can see 2-3 million leaving just in that time. And then Im not thinking about GW2 launch.

They are more than desperate. They are realising how bad of a job they have been doing with WOW over the last 2-3 years. Cause they were gonna focus on Titan.

I doubt they will safe anything with this tho. Everyone knows there are at least 6 months till next expansion and NOTHING new coming. YOu could level 10 characters in that time so 1 lvl 80 is a joke.

@Deadalon We're gonna have a huge release of news on Mists in the next few weeks. Beta will start shortly afterwards. I'd be shocked if we go past June without a date, and the pre-Mists events starting.

You do realize that the betas of every expansion has been on an 6-8 month schedule? That means if the beta started today we would likely not see MoP before September. There is also the matter of what they want to do with SC2 HoS. Blizzard won't release 2 titles at the same time.

No, MoP will be holiday like every other expansion. If they were planning for a Q2 or even an early Q3 release, they would not have sacrificed almost 1 million D3 sales to keep people subbed to WoW for a year.

This isn't jumping the gun. They lost nearly 2 million subs immediately following the release of an expansion and in ever quarter new content was being released (all 4 quarters of 2011). Do you think they will not lose at least that much in a year with no new content? That would put them at around 8 million, possibly lower, for MoP's release. And when you consider that neither Wrath nor Cataclysm grew the subscriber base, I don't see MoP turning that around.

The problem is, this is a meaningless promotion. it may bring some back, undoubetly will, at least for a short while. But I doubt it will be as many people as will unsub. Even the Annual Pass could not bring in new subscribers and that was for a free copy of Diablo 3 AND was in the same quarter as the climatic raid of Cataclysm.

That's not happening I can guarantee you that. If Blizzard waits til holiday season to release MoP the loss of subs is going to be HUGE and they may not get all of it back! Rift, ToR, GW2, (not so much Tera) can pull out some big content updates in that time that just may keep ppl from going back to WoW.

In addition to the backlash over the new talent trees, the pokemon style pet battles and Pandas, these guys are in some hot water. There gonna rush MoP out, DS was one of the easiest and quickest to clear raid they've ever done, they can't possibly expect ppl to do nothing for a whole year...

Oh wait, the annual pass locked subs in for a year... so I guess they can

Whats so funny is how many people kept saying last summer "you just wait, MoP will be out by March". Of course, this was the same group that was "You just wait, all those who left will be back for Firelands" and then went on to say "Well, you just wait, everyone will be back for Dragon Soul". We all know how those predictions went.

Now the only thing a short beta has going for it is we know that Blizz is rehashing old vanilla dungeons again to make them level 90 content. If there is little in terms of new content and just the old dungeons rehashed, then yes, I could see a short beta. But at the same time, if most of the "new" dungeons is in fact old dungeons just buffed, how will that bring people back? Seems like that would just make the issues worse.

I'm not sure this would stem the bleed or not...it may merely slow it down. But I'm not even sure of that....there's a lot of new shineys that are releasing in the next little while.

However, I just want to piont out why I would personally not find the insta-80 unattractive. For the same reasons that Death Knights don't do it for me. That is, the profession skill up...which will not jump, will be a pain to level. But then I tend to skill up professions while I level....so this may not be a as big of deal for others.

That and your new 80 will still be running around in lowbe gear unless you replace it. And if my server is any indication...that will likely be an expensive affair from doing it through AH. But those are my biggest complaints about it - I don't think that warrents condemning it though. /shrug

Still, this ultimately is the crux of all Blizzards woes - forgetting to treat their customers as customers rather than walking wallets to be milked for every last nickel. It wouldn't be asking much for Blizzard to give those who use their scrolls of ressurection some perks as well.

Giving current subscribers Free character transfers and level 80's for getting involved in this promotion would go some way towards ensuring their customers felt valued and rewarded for their custom - as opposed to ending up like ex-customers like me.

Not hating on wow, had a great time there, just feels like it's old news right now and people are just finding more fun in other games. I think we are starting to see a decline, not just for WoW but for Blizzard as a company. But who knows, maybe Diablo 3 and Titan will bring back the luster to the company.

How about no, and Blizzard can kiss my butt.

I filtered their desperate 'Come back and try our raids, please, PLEASE GOD COME BACK' emails to my 'phishing scam' folder and absolutely nothing of value was lost.

Not a chance in hell I'm going back to that game no matter what kind of carrot they put at the end of the stick.

When I left I rage quit so hard, I not only cancelled my subscription but deleted all my characters on every server.

Been gone from WoW for 3 years and the quality of my life has improved tenfold.

Had Blizzard not been cash Vampires and wanted $25 for each character transfers to run a set of database stored procedures in the first place, I wouldn't haven left way back when.

A day late and a dollar short, vultures.

They don't care if few left. More poeple have to reject those micro-MACROtransactions crap.
