BioWare has assembled guilds from all across the world this week for a Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild Summit, and proceedings have already begun. Over 160 guilds have assembled in Austin, Texas, from places as far away from Norway, Brazil, and France.
The good news is that even if you're not reading this post from a spot on the summit floor, you can still tune into the panels and discussions via livestream. Today's events include a patch 1.2 presentation (which is coming "soon"), discussions about operations and flashpoints, and panels covering PvP, the Legacy system, the economy, roleplaying, guild features, and the user interface.
BioWare also announced its Friends of Star Wars program, which will give all current players the ability to give three one-week trials to others to check out the game. Finally, BioWare teased a new world events system.
Check out all of the action on SWTOR's Guild Summit livestream right now!
[Update: TORWars managed to record a shaky-cam version of the GU 1.2 Legacy video. It's now tucked behind the cut!]

1.2 is freaking EPIC!!!!!!! It's honestly bigger than many paid expansions have been, and we don't even have tons of details til 2 CST.

@J45neoboy Yep, New planet, new warzones, new operation, new flashpoints, upgraded warzone system, rankings, pets, gear, updated graphics, legacy expansion which will allow you to unlock species and class/species combinations, and many other features about it we wont know until this afternoon. I didn't list everything there really is A LOT! All the information should be posted all over the place by tonight if you can't view or listen to anything during your day.

Only one week? I guess in 3 more months it'll be an open 15-day trial as per industry standard.

@Repopulation Not so much a complaint, as wondering why they're being so stingy.

Well, 1.2 is shaping up to be pretty good. I guess all those features they were forced to cut so they could ship it by the holidays are starting to make it back into the game. Good on them.

A few things I am concerned about:
During the TORWARS pre summit podcast all you really heard was "More raid or die Plz" from the attending guild leaders.
Then when the summit starts we get a brief commercial for the game that basically shows end game for everyone except the non-raiders after that the rest of the world gets cut off while "the invited" continue the summit.
I'm sorry but this isn't the direction I want to see SWTOR take; it's really almost if Bioware is giving a finger to the casual player and pointing them to GW2. Folks know that I am a huge SWTOR supporter....but I'm really concerned that we are looking at a Raid or Die WoW clone in the future.

@Dunraven I hope they'll keep an eye on non-guilded partly solo-playing doods like me, 'cause if they only patch for guilds it's going to be disappointing. I even don't do heroics or FPs and neither warzones, just plain ole vanilla questing. having a blast, but they need to pack more PVE for the end game.

@pid I dont see them patching this way seeing how you will have a "solo Warzone rating"

@Dunraven Really not sure what the casuals are complaining about. EV can be done on normal with a pug in about an hour.

Dozens of other games do the "Raid or Die" thing. Many, probably better than ToR. That aside, for myself and many others the best thing about The Old Republic was the stories, and especially the class stories. They were probably the only unique thing to ToR. Personally, I found the Imperial Agent story especially one of the most entertaining plots I've played through in any RPG.
I think I can safely say there's a lot of folks sitting back looking at the interlude screen when they load in and asking "When's Chapter 4 coming out?"

This got posted shortly after it was broadcast. It is the 1.2 trailer... Thought those that missed it might like to watch it... Looks like HD quality is available, so don't watch it at the default ugly if you don't have to:

Static and dead worlds.
SWTOR is a battle game, and not a massively-multiplayer roleplaying game. I had high hopes for it, and even defended it. I complain about it because I love SW and want it to succeed, but the current developers created a static and dead universe, seemingly without realizing that's what they were doing.
See all those empty chairs in the gigantic fleet space station cantina? They are the perfect metaphor for this game: empty chairs, because you can't sit in them, nor would you have any reason to do so. There are no people because there is no community because there is no reason to interact with one another except to take down "bosses" that carry loot to enable you to keep on doing the same thing over and over again.

@Valentina
I wish I could share your enthusiasm, Valentina, but as others have posted in the Bio forums, it's really the underlying design and not the promises that are indicative of where this game is headed.
The Addiction Model of MMO design: Have player kill groups of 3 or 4 by spamming their most effective attack combos. Get to the next boss. Give player reward.
In a recent interview, a dev was asked if they planned to include interactive mini-games like pazaak. The dev replied that they didn't have any specific plans for it, but that if they did, it would be included in a major update.
Now, I'm not gonna cry about pazaak, but I WILL cry about the lack of interaction amongst players, the lack of immersion and the failed meta on the part of the devs (Companion Gifts merchants? Dark Force Merchants? Jedi Masters waiting in cantinas to train you up? Rakata Gear merchants? Speeders on the space stations...?) All red flags of rushed and shallow design. Sorry.
