Line of Defense unveils new website, beta signups

Are you curious as to what Derek Smart has been working on lately? Line of Defense is in the midst of a considerable PR push, and the latest salvo comes in the form of a new official website. Beta signups are also live, so if you want to get in on all the sci-fi MMOFPS action, head over and register.

You can also check out the 3000AD YouTube channel to get a look at the game's official trailer, and keep your eyes peeled later in the week as Massively talks to the dev team at the Game Developer's Conference.

Line of Defense is a large-scale MMO shooter that features ground, air, and space combat as well as two factions.

The game will have a chance if Mr. Smart stays off of the forums. He was notorious for editing out negative comments on Alganon. Yes he did do some good with that project and alas it was a dying one, but I believe that management should do their job from behind the lines. His negative comments to players directly, and his "I don't give a damn about others" attitude led many to quit playing the game.

Couldn't agree more. Wow, terrible trailer. Animations are nowhere near realistic, looks like a game from the early 2000's or 1990's.

You've seen better trailers from 10 years ago, but not better trailers from 10 years ago that used in-game graphics.

This trailer was all in-game graphics, with a few non-in-game animations (like the guy pointing towards an enemy while sitting in the jeeps) tacked on after the fact. Yeah, that was a bad move and made it look a little weird. But the in-game graphics are still quite a bit ahead of the original Planetside, which is less than 10 years old (though not for all that much longer).

Hmmm... two sides only? I hope its not set in persistent world then. We have too many examples of what happens when that's the case.

However, Mr. Smart might have a solution to that.

Well, it's good to know that if I feel like indulging my masochist side, I have a new game that I can make a comment about and be verbally abused.

Massively loves hits (as they should)! They should put extra adds on Smart related stories... smarter people are doing a a better job of this already, I'll pass on this game.

I like the stop-motion animated /claymotion feel about this trailer, but was that what he was going for or should he just stopped being "cheap" and hired Blur Studios for his trailers?

Lol did they steal the character models from Global Agenda? Not sure what stage the game is in, but it doesn't look that good. Also, when the hell will game companies learn that 2 faction PvP is complete and utter fail?

I've seen stuff done better with macaroni.

Mr. Smart's horrible personality aside, the game's design itself doesn't look promising. Smart claimed in the previous interview posted here that he wanted the gameplay to be about unorganized mayhem. That's a recipe for mediocrity.

3000AD? Will Judge Dredd be mad?

This game doesn't look like fun at all. And Mr. Smart makes it seem a lot less appealing by being anywhere near it.
