Patience, they say, is a virtue -- and no one is more patient than the Final Fantasy XIV community. This patience will be tested once more as the imminent 1.21 patch has been delayed until March 9th to accommodate further work and testing.
If someone is to blame, it's Producer Naoki Yoshida, who admits that "the sheer volume" of his suggestions prompted the delay. But it will be worth it, he promises.
In a new producer's letter, Yoshida hypes the patch and in particular its changes to magic casting. These changes will be "almost identical" to what the game will see when it hits 2.0. He's extremely excited to announce that adjustments to alchemy and culinary professions -- the medicines and food, specifically -- are almost complete. Finally, he reports that the team is deep into testing the two new instanced raids that are coming with the patch.
Yoshida also thanked the community for its feedback over the upcoming server merges.

Do I get yellow glowing eyes as Black Mage like the one in the quest?
If the answer is "Yes", I forgive him.

This is about in line with Yoshida's initial estimate about a week or so ago of somewhere around "March 6th - 9th"
With the sheer amount of stuff crammed packed into it, I will wait patiently.

Is anyone playing the game right now? I'm interested to hear how the game is shaping up since they've revamped so much of it.
Thoughts?

I got it when it was on sale on Amazon for 10 bux two weeks ago. It is surprising rather playable. I hated it in beta and cancelled the pre-order but now I might play it on and off since its about 10 bux to sub and people are rather helpful in game. Chat channel are decent. Try it out if you can get a cheap copy or wait for 2.0 which would have more improvement.

Mouse is still clunky to use. It is way better than in beta. Still, it's faster to do some stuff with keyboards. They are suppose to update the PC UI to modern standard in 2.0. It is rather hard to explain, the best I can do is "PC UI is largely improved but still not up to western standard".
For example, casting now goes like this. Target monster -> Click on Spell -> Click on Target again to confirm casting. The 3rd step is just stupid but they are patching that issue soon.

I wonder if this game is ever going to be at least as good as FF XI.

The changes to magic were posted today, and they're looking great. The game is receiving a much-needed sub-targeting system, as well as movement canceling casting. You can also see the upcoming Black Mage spell "Burst" towards the end, which looks amazing.
More importantly though, check out the responsiveness of the UI! Hopefully that's a 1.21 change and not just JP / Dev latency.

That does look awesome. Hopefully they can improve server lag issue or NA players probably wont see the responsiveness of the improvement. I still have about 1-2 sec lag between UI tell me the spell is ready to cast and when I actually trying to cast, system tells me its not ready ugh.

I wish that the FFXIV team would learn to build these delays into their declarations of when patches are going to drop. Hasn't every single patch, since late 2010, for this game, been delayed? Especially considering that the game is being redesigned from the ground up, delays are going to be a fact of life. Why the dev team doesn't simply add a week or two of cushion to each projected patch date is beyond me.
Otherwise, yep, I'll keep on hoping the best for the game. I played right at release and thought the game had decent promise but it was such a disaster. It looks now like maybe in a year or two, it'll finally be ready for a real release.

I'm not happy with the casting movement change at all. I still enjoy the game, but I personally have not been happy with some of the changes to casters.
Can't win 'em all. :)

When the game started out, Thuamaturge's abilities and lore revolved around life and death themes, along with hindering spells like sleep, while Conjurer was elemental with all of the basic spells. Both had utilities for helping parties, but Conjurer had the cure, shell, and protect spells, and so was considered healer.
When the jobs came into the works, there was great debate on which mage class would unlock black mage and white mage. Many thought that CNJ should be black mage because they were elemental, and others thought it should be white mage because of the lore and healer role. The changes came as you see now in the game. The elements were split between the two classes, with THM gaining thunder, fire, and blizzard.
Another change that affected all classes was that each class was tied to exactly 15 abilities. Before, there was no set number. This meant CNJ lost a lot of abilities, because it had all six elements and their II versions, the elemental DOTs (these have currently been pulled out of the game, but it's been hinted they might resurface in another mage class), the cures, shell, protect, and a few others that are now taken out of the game. Of course, you couldn't actually use all of those abilities at once, as there was a limitation on how many you could have on your bar. Unfortunately I was less familiar with THM, but I know they had some pretty big changes too.
But it's water under the bridge as they say. :) Yoshi-P is doing a great job, and there are bound to be bumps for someone or another along the way. What matters is the end result.

I'm still waiting on them to fix the interface for PC users. In my opinion that is something that should not be waiting till 2.0 and should be one of their first priorities. I know they have to rework combat to the point to where they like it in order to make the UI work for combat, but simple things like clicking on things, opening a specific menu with a hotkey rather than opening the game menu then going down to the menu you want, using abilities needs to be more fluid and swapping roles needs to be faster and smoother. My biggest complaint about combat was that I never knew which ability was going to be used, when procs were able to be used and how to manage my resources. And aggro was a pain in the ass too. I'll be extremely happy to try it again when all of that is changed and I'm hoping it becomes the game I always wanted it to be. I just fear that because SE primarily makes console games that any PC game is going to have that console feel.
