Are the EU servers working? I know Nox isn't and I'm getting antsy to start up my Eniripsa.

@Joshua Przygocki I heard Nox is ran by Square Enix, so I assume it's their fault.

My patcher won't even run. Says there is an error and another client may be running.

@Maseno I had to uninstall the patcher I used for beta and reinstall it.

Just so that everyone is clear, but this isn't a free-to-play game.
It's a sub game, pure and simple. It's it's free part is more of a very basic, highly restrictive demo that locks you into the first two starter/tutorial levels.

Basically you won't be able to do jack shit of anything at all unless you sub.
Personally, not worth the asking price, considering how dull the gameplay is.

Cute ideas, poor execution.

@Yoh Well somebody's wrong:

"even for this champion of free-to-play games"

"It's it's free part is more of a very basic, highly restrictive demo that locks you into the first two starter/tutorial levels."

@Eric Francis I assume you haven't researched this yourself have you?

I spent the better part of last night looking it up, and they developers plainly state that you are locked into the starter areas with their free-to-play system.
http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg/membership/why-subscribe-to-wakfu
Second line: "Tackle achievements offered on Incarnam and Astrub."

Having actually played through open beta, the starter areas are very simple and basic. I would call that a demo, not free to play.

But don't take my word for it, go play it yourself. If I am wrong about it being limited to those two starter areas, then I'll admit it.
But from what I've seen, this is indeed the case, and it's sad.

@Yoh That's what I saw, too. It's hard to call a game F2P when it locks you into only a couple of small zones unless you subscribe. That's a trial.

I played the open beta, and I had a lot of fun, but I doubt I would subscribe. Too many other games to play.

@Yoh im playing it right now, you cant group or trade with anyone unless you subscribe. Thats like giving someone a pair of pedals and saying "Heres a free bike". You cant really complain cause its free but thats not a bike.

@Eric Francis I was tempted to sub, but i think its so shady to call this free to play that i am not going to encourage this company.

so at the smallest amount of "Ogrine" - $5.00 for 1850, a hat runs you $2.09. Not even a 3d hat, mind you, a 2 sided cartoon illustration of a hat that they'll stick on a tiny little avatar. It doesn't even look like you could tell the difference in the gameplay graphics it's so small.

If you wanted to spend $15 - the cost of a AAA "all you can eat" sub fee you can get a "Captains Outfit" a "Great Macabra Sword" and the emote to "Slobber"

Come on people - I don't care what the little numbers are telling you you're doing or accomplishing clicking your 2d avatar around the isometric map - but you're playing a "Free" game paying $15 for 1 outfit, 1 sword and 1 emote. Do you not see anything wrong with that?

And they're statted items, so the Free 2 Play player with the most cash wins.

Someone needs some smelling salts.

and to get out of the starter area you need to sub too?

What are you guys smoking? Stick with the natural stuff, it's better for you.

@Deliverator You don't seem to understand Wakfu. I would gladly pay 15 dollars for those items.. I mean- Who doesn't like to slobber?

Seriously, stop complaining about it. If you don't like it, don't play it. I, for one, find it incredibly charming, enjoy the playstyle, and feel like spending MY money on it. Why does it bother YOU what I spend MY money on? Besides, it's not like I have a kid and am choosing to pay for Wakfu over feeding him/her.

How do the in-game gear drops compare with the statted item shop stuff?

Maybe it's stated differently on the starting web page for the US, but on the german and english pages it says very prominently "Subscribe to Wakfu" and "Why subscribe". From that I do not understand how this game can be rated as a f2p game. It isn't, just like dofus is not.

If you subscribe, you get, additionally to the subscription itself, subscription gifts. Pets, armor, Lottery jetons. Mind you, thats additional to the subscription, which is mandatory to play in the non-starter areas anyway. What they try to do here is to make it more insteresting for players to subscribe for a longer period, as not only the price per month drops but also the gifts are better. I cannot see how this can upset someone.

@MacDexter Can you play it as much as you want for free? Yes. You can't do as much, but you have unlimited play time. Even WoW and WAR advertised themselves as free with their unlimited free trial. It techn ically is free to play, and the sub is optional. I'd compare their model to Runescape over any other free2play game.
