We find that player ingenuity is always quick to take up the slack left by MMO studios. In the case of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the initial lack of Oceanic and Asian servers prompted players in those regions to come up with a unique solution: to create a server of their own, using BioWare's own system to their advantage.
Many MMOs have unofficial servers for regions and rulesets, but pulling them together can take an incredible amount of work and still end up halfway done. However, Oceanic and Asian players wanted to make sure that they all rolled on the same server right on launch day, so guilds began to get in contact with each other and use BioWare's own guild registration system to link Republic and Empire groups together in an Oceanic "daisy chain." Because the system was designed to put as many allied and adversary guilds together on a server, the entire daisy chain was planted on a NA west coast server, Swiftsure. In one smart move, the Oceanic and Asian population had their own place to call home.
The story of Swiftsure as a temporary refugee camp for these players is coming to a close, as SWTOR is officially launching overseas on March 1st -- and the population will be offered a free transfer to the new servers. Still, it goes to show you just how inventive players can get.

Dang it, a bit more planning and they could have gotten a nice even lattice reminiscent of a crystal lattice ^_^
Nice work though, well done.

And the US based players on those servers are going to be left with nothing but a ghost town.

I'm from The Swiftsure as a US based player, and I can tell you that MAYBE 3 guilds on that list are actually on the server still. Remnants is big, and can get stuff done, but the others are small little guilds. Most of the Republic guilds are NA based, which is how my guild got moved to that server (we were allied with 2 out of 3 of the biggest republic guilds as a sith guild to ensure we'd get some faction balance). The Aussies etc made a good move, but they aren't the majority on the server.
I love the current 24 hour action, but I highly doubt The Swiftsure will become a "ghost town" when our friends on the other side of the world transfer. It'll just stop being so active at ALL hours.

How good is this game? I really wish they would put out a trial so I can try it myself before committing to this game... I've heard that getting to end game is really easy and fast but some say its boring and buggy. Should I wait until this game has matured a bit or is this a MMO only the SW fans would only enjoy?

RP guilds did something similar; the SAGA network placed over 200 hundred guilds on similar servers (Shien and Lord Addras) through a dizzying network of guild alliances and adversaries. It was quite a feat!

Working the linking system is not unique to this group. Former SWG Bloodfin guilds did the same thing and most ended up on Kinrath Spider. Then everyone promptly left for The Fatman when it was realized that Kinrath would be the Unofficial Brazilian server.

Swiftsure is not the only Aussie heavy server. The Jekk"Jekk Tarr is about 1/3 to 1/2 Aussie as well. And according to the Jekk"Jeek Tarr Facebook group, they are all jumping ship on March 1rst, which will leave our server underpopulated. If Aussie players are getting transfers off, so should every other player stuck on one of these servers.

I tried to et as many star sider imp guilds together as possible and we still got scattered. On my server Sith Wyrm, Imperial guidls are merging with us as there are a ton of little guilds. Its nice to see we can work together.

GLBTA guilds did the same thing to create the unofficial gay server, Jekk'Jekk Tarr.

Seriously... this is news
1) WTF is this news.... 2 and a half months after servers were assigned. The daisy chaining plan for Australian pve (harbinger) / pvp (swiftsure) servers were at least 4 months prior to game going live... so thats like half a year old imo.
2) Like the Kotuka article finally stated, australian servers are going live this week.
What would be real news... would be if they had some inside scoop on the Australian servers (like where they are besides "local") or actual details on the server transfers. EA and Bioware have been silent besides the "official" statements.

Only problem I have with this and the source it came from is that the guild Remnants is claiming this was their plan. It wasn't. It was a guy from the guild Insurgence, that diagram even appears on their website. Remnants tried to break the chain 10 days before launch, claiming it wouldn't work.
