As someone who enjoys rolling alts, I like account-wide rewards.

This, most definitely. Currently leveling alts like a mad man on SWTOR cause I love seeing me some legacy experience going up. I had a ton of alts on WoW I so had wished there were account-wide achievements on that game, I may not have quit when I did.

@Noviere I agree completely, I am an altaholic and I VERY much appreciate account-wide rewards!

For me, it's a bit different. If I feel like I would be giving too much by making a new character, I often won't do so - instead of rolling an alt, I will pick a new game, one where the whole leveling process is new to me, and move there.

I probably would have stayed with WoW if they had account wide achievements back in the day. I had 10 lvl 80's - every professions maxed out, and several server fist achievements. I hear they plan on rolling that out some day in wow, but that ship sailed for me over a year ago. However, the legacy in swtor wasn't enough for me to want to continue to play so even when a game has this option, if its a shit game, its still a shit game.

It's wrong, each character should stand on its own merits. It's morally no different to P2W if your character gets a free boost for something it did not earn.

What about using a high-level character to send money or items to your low-level alts? That should be no morally different either, correct?

I agree and do not do that based on principle, I don't think stash should be accessible by all characters on an account.

You act as if it's cheating. I slay the mighty Lizard King on my Warrior hundreds of times. I, Buckwald, have earned that title. So, now I want to to play my Wizard and use the Lizard Slayer title. Or I get rewarded with an "epic" wand that I want to use and I use it. It's not a "free boost". I still earned it. Just on a different character. They are still MY characters and MY rewards.

In certain MMOs, in order to really have more than 1 complete toon, the time needed is a bit much for some of us who really don't have the time to do it. Yeah, I can hear it now "GTFO CASUAL BAD SCRUB!" I've raided 5 days a week for hours on end. I've done those daily quests every day for 30 days. Multiple times. And at this point, I'd rather play with my daughter until she goes to sleep, then log in for 2 hours and enjoy myself. Instead of having "omg, okay, it'll take me 3 hours to do dailies and knock out 1 dungeon, I think I can do it".

I am not stopping you playing how you like, and your personal circumstances are not relevant to me, the question posed by the article was what is your opinion, I have stated mine.

This makes sense, and I'll add in that it can become really important when people refuse to bring you because you can't like an achieve that says you've done the fight. You may have cleared the full raid on heroic on 9 other characters but you just started this one, and they won't take you because you can't link the achieve. Account wide achieves would be great for that.

This argument is similar to those who protested removing Diablo III's skill trees in favor of passively earned skills. As a player, I should not be punished for achieving, yet being forced to achieve something on each character to show it off is, in fact, punishing and discouraging. It's certainly not P2W if all I've "paid" is time and effort.

I could argue that in pay to win I have put in time and effort to get the money, why should I be penalised in a game by not being able to use it.

"It's morally no different"

There's nothing moral or immoral about a video game having certain rules. What's wrong with you people that try to act like subscriptions are more "moral" than free to play? Go outside.

So do you play alts with a different part of your brain? or is it an alt for each family member? I don't and if I get an special achievement then I would like to have it for all of my alts... it wasn't my toon the one that got the achievement it was me... I just happened to want to play a particular alt on that day... but the achievement is mine, not the alt...

But then again I do not consider my toons as independant people, I consider them toons that I play with depending on what I feel like playing.

You lost me at "morally".

I'm glad you see playing MMOs as a measure of a person's worth, but really, I just wanna smack orcs and collect shinies at the end of a long day at the office and a few hours with my family.

Account-wide items allow me to enjoy alts more. Alts allow me to add variety to my game-play. "Fun" trumps "existential guilt for wearing a digital hat on my alt's head that I know I didn't really earn"

YMMV

As I said before I am not stopping anyone do what they want. I play the character, after all they'd are mmoRPGs, to me taking a leg up from another of my characters is akin to cheating myself. Obviously from the responses I am in a minority, so I will go back to gently shaking my head and judging you all as you transfer items between your alts.

Definitely prefer account-wide rewards. And, for freemium, account-wide purchases (screw shelling out for a weapon for only one character).
