Would be more entertaining if the millionth person to register automatically got in.

I'm happy for them, but I'd be a liar if I said my heart didn't sink when I saw that number. I am but one small prospective tester, adrift in an ocean of my kin, and all of us are waving our arms and saying, "Pick me!" ;_;

@Irem
so true I have mixed feelings about it myself happy for them but sorry for me as it lowers the chances of actually getting in to beta.

Well you're not actually competing against a million other people. You're only competing against the people who meet their requirements.

@freebase

Their "requirement" is going to be a wide range. It's a beta, you don't just test a certain group of people that have a certain setup of hardware. You test a very wide range of setups so you can better optimize your game so more and more people can play.

Look at SWTOR for instance. You can tell they didn't take hardware into consideration seeing how that game is as optimized as a baked potato. I update my rig almost every year, I can run any current game on ultra settings and yet I would drop down to below 10 FPS in that game while raiding or PVPing. .

Then you look at a game like WoW or Rift. I knew people that played on PC's that were made when XP just came out and can play those games today.

If you would have signed up then you'd know that they asked several questions before scanning your PC. One of them being your age. This means you're only going to be competing against the pool of people who meet your same criteria.

Also, I'm not sure what this topic has to do with your shitty computer not being able to handle TOR.

It is quite an acomplishment imo, 1 million signups in 48 hours.

Although optimistically speaking if they have 100k invites to give it still means you only have a 10% chance to be in it.

A million is an extremely impressive feat.

I'm pretty sure that, even if Arenanet was giving away $5 to everyone who came, they still wouldn't reach those numbers in 48 hours.

This is precisely why I signed up on multiple emails.

To waste a little extra time only to microscopically increase your chances?

Actually, signing up on 2 accounts doubles your chances.

the double of a microscopically microscopical chance is still microscopically microscopical

@Apakal took me five minutes total (emails I already had). Why wouldn't I increase my chances if even by just a little bit?

Unless you have multiple computers that you signed up on, I'm not sure it'll make any difference.
