this isn't 2.0. this is an ancient pre-alpha or at least pre-beta screenshot. the game HAS NO BLOOM. something they were experimenting with. it never looked like this, and it won't based on the 2.0 preview videos.

Yah I can see how people who are bored of F2P EQ/EQ2/AoC/RoM/LotR/etc. (mostly EQ2 here), had enough of the light/dark side in ToR, had enough of a sand-box like EVE, and really dislike the notion of a perfect game like GW2 ... would all swarm down on DF2.0. Must be the case - I am convinced.

I'm not sure having a starting zone on safety rails is any better than a starter zone where one could be constantly camped out by max levels with the purpose of ganking. The reason being, is that this zone could leave a very false impression of how the game works for the newbie, only to be horrifyingly dissappointed when they leave that zone....when those same bullies are camping out near the zones' gate...

...the planned memory mount mechanic is amusing though.

@Utakata

It's not any better. It merely delays getting ganked and looted by someone you have no chance at beating for a few extra hours.

@Utakata

ummmm, its impossible to camp somebody in a noobie city in Darkfall. always has been. some people know some tricks to being able to get away with a kill or 2, but even that almost never happens.

i have NEVER been killed in a city or just outside of it. i've just heard of ways that it has been done in uncommon instances.

@Rialle

read what i said to Utakata.

also, this really doesn't make any real difference. just cuz noobies now have a private tutorial instances. for a LONG LONG time they've been invulnerable for the first hour of the game, so unless it takes them longer than an hour in the tutorial this isn't much of a change. and NOBODY will be in the city camping for them. starter cities are %99.99 safe.

maybe you people that know nothing about this game shouldn't just pull concepts out of your butt based on how you IMAGINE things go down in "these kind of games".

You know what makes a steep learning curve? Lazy devs. Lack of documentation, and inaccurate item description/usage. False impressions, leading people on in tutorials without documentation on what IS going to happen upon leaving, all the fault of the devs and stupidity, piss poor planning or they wouldnt be changing it.

Everyone understands the the need in some games to leave discovery to the individual but simply not having explanations or just weird explanations does nothing for a healthy customer base.

The old addage keep it simple stupid is something that needs to be followed, brief and to the point, and only whats needed to get a new customer going. Games like this and EVE (though EVE has improved substantially in this regard) leave the guess work to the starting individual, what dev does that? or at least should warn people ahead of time you will receive very bare bones information in keeping with our making it tough starter policy.

I was really mad when some dude took my mount and when I went to attack him, I got killed by the guard towers. It was close to a rage quit moment for me.

It was supposed to be a "hardcore" game with "consequences," so you'd think you would be able to kill a mount thief in town....but I raged like a such a noob, it makes me laugh now.

Those do sound like smart changes but I've pretty much moved on.

Darkfall has already excited my socks off and left me dismally disappointed.

I never played this game because I personally hate hardcore pvp type games. I don't see how delaying the inevitable is going to bring in more laid back type players.

Darkfall failed because it promised a glorious sandbox with player built cities/structures, an economy that could rival Eve's, ships, and fps style combat. What it delivered was much less, and mostly broken.

@dfhfdh Why on earth would you choose this thread (a post about DF) to comment in.... there's like 4 or more topics here with 100's of comments and probably 1000's of views compared to this.
