Awesome! Now there'll be even more games that even high end PCs run at 10 fps maximum when there are more than 40 people on screen. Fantastic news!

@Laurs If you actually read a quote from the Goblinworks CEO he already said that Bioware had a very early version of the engine that wasn't even for sale yet and they modified it a lot and now it is probably not able to update it. http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz4shh&page=2?Game-engine#63

Yet they still called it a success, didn't they?

@Laurs This is obvious because it faired well and besides it's PR. What you said is irrelevant.

@Braiks How did it fare well though? Playing with 5-10 fps in Ilum when there are *only* 40ish imps camping the base, or 1-5 just after the weekly reset, when everyone is doing their weekly, on a top end PC isn't really "well" imho.

Or did it fare well because SWTOR has 2mil subs (supposedly, im curious to see updated numbers)? If so, i can tell you Justin Bieber has sold shitloads of records and made tons of money off of it; his music is still shit tough.

@Braiks Cant be that high end a PC you have . I've just brought a mid range one for 800 pounds I get 120 fps in the open and around 70-80 in crowded areas . I also tried it on my PC thats 5 years old and was mid range back then even I got around 20-30 fps in the open and 10-20 in crowded areas . I can only assume your either lying , have a very different idea of what a high end pc is from most people , your PC was high end several years ago but has not been upgraded or that there is some hardware of software fault causing such low fps in the game . I'm not paticulary a fan of the game but I'm also not going to spread disinformation about it to try and pursuade people not to play it .

@Laurs Did you completely ignore my first post? I just told you that the engine is in a different stage in Swtor.

I love it when people like you spread misinformation. Of course you have 120 fps in your ship, or 70 fps while questing, especially if you don't have everything turned to max, or shadows turned off, or stuff like that.
Tell you what, turn EVERYTHING to max, play @ 1080p or 1920x1200, and go to Ilum at 12pm GMT (if in Europe, dunno for USA) on Tuesday, after you get the weekly Ilum quest. Find the group if opposite faction and start fighting. Tell me your fps.

My specs: i7 980x @ 4GHz, 12GB DDR3 ram, Nvidia GTX 590, R3 Extreme mobo. Might be a little outdated, but most would call it a high end PC.

I promise you that my PC blows yours away and I used to get 15-20 FPS in a 16man raid..even lower on some fights.

We really shouldn't need to explain why you get really high FPS while questing alone and while you're in your ship. My 11yr old nephew knows the answer to this.

You don't know what you're talking about so please stay clear of this topic else you looka lika foola.

@WesleyCrusherSweater

You're not necessarily wrong. You could just not be at a point in the game where you experienced it.

You get good FPS at your fleet?
Have you raided with 16 people?
Have you been in a huge cluster of people in a Warzone?
Do you even use anything to see your FPS?
Do you know what frame-rate is?

Point is dude..I'm running a rig that can play any current came at ultra and still have enough "umph" to make a milkshake and jumpstart a semi and I have experienced 150FPS dropping to 15FPS in a second always while raiding, in a Warzone, Ilum and at the fleet. .

There have been entirely too many people bringing this subject up for it to just be a coincedence. Bioware said it was only 5% of the community which is just a blatent lie.

So for you to say you "never had this problem" either makes you very special, makes you a liar or makes you very unaware of your surroundings in a video game.

@Laurs there is a lot more to how well your PC run's than just listing off what your CPU, ram, graphics card, and mobo is. of course you could just be making it all up in order to have an argument against something you hate. people do it all the time, we call them douchebags.

@Laurs I already have without any problem at all . Do you expect anyone to believe that you get decent fps while questing of in busy hubs that drop to 10 fps with those specs . Its pretty obvious you are being economical with the truth .

Same thing I was thinking.

I am just wondering why Bioware wanted this engine so bad over more popular ones. Especially when they knew it wasn't even finished...AND then they modified it...

Raging on Bioware isn't fun all the time but alot of things they do...

I prefer the Unreal Engine 3 and soon to be 4 myself.

@(Unverified) Epic know how to make a solid engine.

It sports great development tools, is well optimized for a variety of system builds, and can render out your locales in jaw-dropping gorgeous detail.

Thusly it's not cheap to make a commercial product using the Unreal 3 engine...although honestly with a budget of 200 million, B/W could have licensed it easily.

Aside from the closed Faxion and a day of SWTR beta I haven't had much experience with Hero engine but between the two of them I'd pick Unreal as well. But I wish Unreal was shaken up a bit by a newcomer because it produces very samey looking games. UE4 games aren't going to be coming for a few more years.
