This kills any chance of me ever playing LotRO's PvP as a freep. I really dislike the very concept of separate PvP and PvE gear.

A more audacious (and more sensible) dev diary would be one announcing that PvMP was being removed from the game entirely. If you're not planning to make PvP a serious and well-supported part of your game, you're so much better off just not bothering at all. Let people go play LOL or something after a session of LOTRO PvE.

For those LOTRO players hanging on, I hope this, somehow, makes the situation better for you. You deserve an honest attempt from Turbine to implement betterments.

For those like myself, it's just another check-box on why we stopped bothering to care.

@lannadhor I play lotro a couple of times a week (its never been my main mmo) but I'm not sure what you mean by hanging on it seems to imply the game is dead when its actually far busier than its ever been .

lol another huge step backward for LOTRO! PvP only stats that further separate skill from grind and discourages new players the fastest. But wait, act now and you can buy this whole new set of PvP gear in the cash shop!! Did LOTRO just farm out their dev duties to Korea or something?

@deluxe2000 I must have missed the part about the armor set being sold in the LOTRO store.

I really, really want to love LOTRO's PvMP. Whenever I resubscribe, I always spend time on my Spider. But it's a losing battle: I go in because I care about the PvP game and really enjoy it for its own sake, but selling it to a new or potential player is really hard.

PvP-only stats seems like such a red herring. You need to make PvP have CONSEQUENCES, rather than having it as a mini-game. In any other game, would new zones be such a huge hassle or headache to implement? How could this possibly be as complicated as they've made it? The Ettenmoors is a limbo -- it was fun for years, but it is literally almost unchanged since launch. That is just crazy. You cannot sell that to a consumer audience.

I started on the side of loving PvMP. Then I moved to the fence. I think I may now actually be falling onto the side of the haters. I mean honestly Turbine: you've got such a good game here. Please do something. You're up to the challenge.

@ScottishViking I used to creep every night. I agree that the Moors has gotten stale. I suppose a new map would be nice but then people would just all migrate to the new STAB or OC or where ever the zerg flocks to. I think PvMP skirmishes would be cool. Small instances battles in different maps would be nice if they keep adding new ones every now and then. Queue up for a 6v6 capture the flag or 12v12 death match.

@JaySpeed

Indeed Jayspeed...I don't see how you could rule out pvmp gear or commendations coming to the store in some fashion. And just the risk of it occurring is enough to keep me away from it.

Interesting how far the ripples of selling lowbie gear in the store can travel.

Gods, anything, anything at all. They just need to stop calling these tweaks "improvements." Like putting lipstick on a dead horse.

I expect this will be a disaster for PVMP. I haven't yet encountered a developer who managed to get the balance right with their PVP gear awards, allowing people to have a sense of progression while maintaining a sense of competition, or rather, avoiding the situation of having a very few characters decked out in the best gear become nigh unkillable while slaughtering every newbie who dares take a peak into the zone.

For a company that sinks as little effort into it's PVP minigame as Turbine does, I can't see this as being anything other than a disaster for the typical player. Doubtless this will be followed by Turbine "Responding" to "Player Concern" about "Difficulties in Aquiring PVP gear" and so they will kindly offer a "Solution".

All hail the cash shop - Heir of Sauron!

Until the lead clown in charge is fired, Monster play will be nothing but a shadow of what it could be. It simply makes no sense that dev still works there.

Audacity will, of course, also be available in the LOTRO store as well I am sure, just like they sell every other stat. Just something else for them to sell you in the store, that's all.

I quit logging in when SWTOR came out and haven't looked back AND this dev diary is not getting me back either. Instanced skirmished would bring me back but I think that's beyond Turbine's ability/willingness. I don't see how they can attract and sustain new blood, especially on creepside, when the game is so unbalanced. On the other hand, it's incredibly easy for freepside to rank and get gear.
